We have a oleander plant, which is very poisonous if ingested. Its quite big and pretty when in flower. (It was here when we bought the house) Our Cavs don't go outside a lot, and when they do, we supervise them. I've never seen go near it actually. We have since made a smaller enclosed area now because they were starting to dig up and eat the next door cat's poo grrrr !

Ours have a huge backyard, and hardly ever want to go out and play in it anyway LOL I think it generally depends on what breed of dog you have (some prefer heaps of room, other's don't so much), and how much time you put into them with exercise etc.. What type of dog are you getting just out of interest?

We were charged over $700 for Renae staying overnight in a vet clinic, (she only went in about 5.30pm) and she didn't even have the full IV all night for her dehydration, as she escaped out of her cage sometime after the vet came to check her (once) at about 10pm! They found her wandering the surgury the next morning at about 8am! They did give us some medications (AB's) and a tin of science hill diet food, but I can't understand how it still came to that much! -

We just had a couple big vet bills recently . We don't have pet insurance, we keep saying we will put the same amount away ourselves, but we never do (because other bills keep cropping up as they do!) Our vet (altho they are in our bad books atm), have discretely allowed us arrangement of payments to be made over a time (within limited time, and only if you been going to them for ages). So that's what we did with Renae's big vet bill recently. They also have another system where they can organise a loan through some other lending crowd (not totally sure how it works)? I would never again allow a dog suffer if there was no hope for it, so as a last resort would have them pts, then spending money on them just to delay the actual outcome for a bit longer  -
He's gorgeous Gayle  Congratulations!

Well they are Cavs after all !!!

Forget about adding Cavalier King Charles Spaniels to your list then (Most Cavs love beds, lounges, chairs, coffee tables) :D plus they shed a fair bit -

Our place doesn't have a bath, and the laundry basin is now used as the cats feeding station (with a board over the top), so since we have small dogs, we wash them in the shower

Cavaliers are ideal, but didn't recently a doler was trialing one for her asthmatic son. And it didn't work out I have problems with allergies, and I'm not too bad with our 2 Cavs and 2 very fluffy cats. They do set me off sometimes, but not enough not to have them in my life

In the past I have fed dogs canned food, cheap and expensive brands. Some were worse than others. The only real thing I noticed about them that they sometimes gave my dogs the runs, and their farts would always be smelly ! eeek I did however give vegetables as well, or left over food from my jobs (if suitable for dogs) For the last 4 years or so with our Cavs, we have never given them tinned food, except for on special occasions they have had those small gourmet tins (I think its natures way, with pics of Cavaliers etc on the front of the tin?) I don't think its the best way to go feeding a dog imo, but I don't think it's going to hurt if you feed them it sometimes... depending on the your dog's food tolerances.
