  1. altho our 2 cats are either kept indoors, or in an outside enclosure, we do have a cat from next door coming over every so often grrrr and on occasions a big stray one ! so they very well could be bringing fleas into our yard also, altho our Cavs have a smaller area they go out into which i have never seen the stray cats come into because they know we are always around that area (a section just out of the back door)
  2. so where do buy Comfortis from, the vets? how often do you use it? i take it is a tablet? can it be used on cats as well, or just for dogs? I am defiantly going to give it a try then!
  3. I don't think I have tried that one yet ? must look into it !
  4. You are not a bad owner Chicken !! *hugs* I used to look down on people whose dogs had fleas, and now i have experienced it with my 2 ! now the shoe is on the other foot ! Yes you need to leave the house for a while after you flea bomb it. Good time to go out for a drive/big walk with your dogs
  5. I think this kind of weather doesn't help either !
  6. I hate fleas too! Until moving here, i haven't had any dogs with flea issues for years until we came here ! Apparently here is well known for it ! Both of our cavs have had on and off fleas problems for the last couple of years, obviously it starts about now where they are affected the worse. We have tried nearly everything there is for fleas, preventative and for the actual problem. At one stage we were paying heaps to have them (and the cats) sprayed with frontline at the vets. But in the end couple days after they would be sprayed, they would go outside and get bitten again. We have tried other products. The main problem is when they go outside (which is mostly just to do their business), the fleas must be in the ground . We even made a smaller area for them to go into, but it still happens. We do flea bomb the house, and their bedding etc and yes it does help for a while. But then somehow they get bitten again. We have given captars as well. We now spend many evenings flea combing them .. I don't know if its because we live near so much water, but yeah I am yet to find a solution without costing heaps of money each year on flea treatments .. It's very frustrating !
  7. Hi and welcome to Dol, Willlow How exciting about getting a cav puppy soon! wohooo ! I haven't voted on any of the names yet, as none of them seem like cavvy names (to me personally), but obviously you and your wife like the ones you have chosen :D Our 2 were already named, altho not very doggy type names anyway All the best ! Ok I went with Zuko since i have a pair of love birds with the names Zula and Zena ;)
  8. Thats so sweet and thoughtful of your doler friends BM There are some lovely people on here who go that bit extra to help others and do kind things. I hope Brennan's on the improve real soon! x
  9. I had never had any issues with my dogs ever having to stay overnight at the vets if required until our last horrible experience! Renae had been having a bit of a tummy upset and not drinking water as much as she should have been. So I decided after a day and half like this I should get her checked out . They said she was quite dehydrated and had some bug thing and she would have to stay in overnight. I was not really happy about that idea, but they insisted she needed to be closely monitored and be on a drip. I asked if she would be sedated at all as i knew how much she would fret They said no she wouldn't be. I asked if she would be getting checked on throughout the night, and they said probably a couple times someone would check on the animals. Anyway it turns out that she was only checked on once, earlier in the night, and the vet after he had checked on her had forgotten to latch her crate back up properly and she had ripped out her IV tube and escaped out of her crate. Apparently she had fretted so much she had scratched up the walls and doors and had wee's and no'2's all over the place! So she really didn't get the full lots of IV AB's and fluid she was supposed to have! They wanted to keep her in one more night and I said no way especially as it would then be the weekend ! so they gave me AB's and a couple other things to help her recover. Also when they passed her back to me (I realise they were very busy and it was a Sat Morning) but her backside was still covered in runs ! I said to them about it and could they clean her up a bit at least first! I got charged the full amount of her staying over night despite what had happened! I have had Joey there in the past, but after he has had operations and has been sedated. At least he slept through most of it until we have picked him up. I don't know what I will do if the situation should occur again as I am paranoid to leave them overnight ever again there, but unfortunately where we live we don't have too many choices of vet clinics . We have since been back for minor things, but it has left a bitter taste in my mouth since that night Renae had to stay in.
  10. Hopefully it hasn't been posted yet? if it has my apologies . I got all emotional watching it because it sort of reminded me of my dog I owned years ago (German Shepherd x Blue Heeler) who i rescued from a abusive owner. The dog Sabre, was deemed dangerous and I was told by many people I should have him put down So for the next few years I spent heaps of time training this dog, so much that we ended up competing in obedience trials (and some agility) and altho he wasn't the best performer, he still got good points, ribbons and a trophy along the way :D We went through so much together until he had to pts (years later) due to severe arthritis as a result of a really bad accident that happened at a doggy park . Anyway enjoy the video, it's beautiful ! Best with your volumn up http://vimeo.com/31028061
  11. Glad to hear he's on the improve Loraine x
  12. I'll swap ya ! Just kidding ;) Congrats on your 6th baby !
  13. Hi Loraine, hope your doggy feels better soon! I don't personally believe in artificial sweeteners for even people, as they are bad for your body ! I am a diabetic and rarely touch the stuff . I was buying those sugar free lollies for a while, but don't anymore. Accident do occur no matter how careful we are. however I do try to keep non doggy safe things in places where I hope they will never get to them. So far so good in all the years I have owned dogs. I guess it only takes one time tho.
  14. Thats how we came across Joey, saxonpup, by also going to a dog show to meet some breeders :D
  15. I remember when Ollie was first diagnosed, I think it may have been around the same time as my Jenna was diagnosed, and that was a long time ago now Ollie fought long and hard with your care and love. RIP Ollie, run free over the rainbow bridge. Jenna will be there to greet you with a ball in her mouth. Hugs StaffyLuv x
  16. well thats a good and valid point Steve! I have always said if anything was to happen to my husband and I that they would go back to the their breeder (she knows and was the one who brought it up originally that she was to be contacted if we couldn't keep them) However after reading Steve's post, it has made me think that we should have another option just in case she couldn't take them back if something was to come up. It would be a last resort tho as we wouldn't send them back permanently just for the sake of moving etc..
  17. I hope they find new forever loving homes! I agree with contacting the Cav rescue group with your state, It's sad that the breeder won't have them back to rehome them to suitable homes..
  18. Im working on adding a third one to our family also :D presently we a male and female, Mother and son.(both desexed) I don't think its going to make much of a difference what sex we get next? but am reading this thread for opinions as well.
  19. Hi everyone I have never taken any real notice until recently that RB doesn't offer the wrapping (mirror or colour matching) option of our images on the canvas's DH recently won a photographic competition and as a result sold a few of his winning images :D One customer has asked us she wants to buy one of his images on the canvas, but she's not keen that the edges are just white. I do agree with her totally, and so does my DH. We choose RB as most of our work in on there, so it's easy to order from and have it all done ready to sell. We have always been really impressed with their quality, and the prices are not too bad considering. And packaging and delivery have always been really good too. I am just so surprised RB being a big company as they are with lots of people (photographers) using it, that they have never had this option. Most printing places do now ! Anyway we are trying to find an alternative place to get this particular customer's print on canvas done for her. We have found somewhere in SA, but we have no idea how good they will be until we see it ourselves. I am sure if we had presented the images with the wrapping, I think hubby would have sold even more ! I am aware with the wrapping it can take some size of the overall image, but if thats what people prefer, then they should be able to have that option IMO. So if any of you Red bubblers want to have a say about this in their feed back forum please do here. Thank you
  20. I've always owned 2 dogs at a time, and it's usually just worked out (not on purpose) that I have owned, and still do, one of each sex. My dogs have always been desexed. I have had X's breds and now purebreds . I can't say I personally prefer one over the other. I think most of my males have been a little bit more sookier than my females. But all of them have been just as loving. My females have probably been a bit more independent. I am eventually going to get a tri colour Cav, and the sex of it will not bother me with which one I end up getting ps None of my male dogs have ever rubbed their bits on me, not intentionally anyway
  21. I have been around most breeds of dogs in my 45 years of life. I have had quite a few friends who have owned Cocker Spaniels, and I have also seen them (worked along side) in the dog obedience club I used to be heavily involved in for years. I have never met an aggressive one yet ! A few have been on the shy side, but were friendly enough still. Most of the ones I have met have belonged to families with children and they have never had any bad temperament issues that I have heard about. I do think in every breed there are good and bad temperaments. Just like there are with people also. I would be more concerned about the aggressive people that seem to pop up every where these days ! (Perhaps too much bad breeding is going on with humans)? Like with every breed, do your research with the breeders and their dogs.
