  1. Hi Everyone :) Renae is just over 10 now, and has had a few minor concerning symptoms over last few months of things not being right. Last Sat, we decided she should have a blood test done to check on her. Today we got the results and her liver enzymes are very elevated. They suggested she have a ultrasound done soon. She is booked in this Thurs. They mentioned a few things it could be, can't remember atm as i was upset with just hearing about the results. There were some other levels that were not quite right, but the vet said he wasn't too overly concerned with them at this stage. She's healthy otherwise, has a good heart for her age, hasn't lost any weight, if anything has put on. The reason we had her tested was because she has had a few tremors/shakes/trance like states over the last few months, only mildly and they only last a few seconds. If you touch her she stops/comes out of it. I did mention she has been excessively hungry, which most cavs are always on the look out for food, but hers has been really bad . She's been lethargic for a while now but then shes a 10 year old Cav. She has her moments of being active. We won't know what is causing it until her Ultrasound, but am just wondering of anyone's else experiences with high liver enzymes levels in their dogs? I guess there are few different things that it can be in different dogs, but Im just curious about it..
  2. When we took Renae to the vets yesterday to see what might be going on with her with her mild trances and mild shakes, I brought up about that it all started happening around the same time we starting using Comfortis. I said to the vet that you probably not going say anything against the product, and that its probably just a coincidence ? He said most likely it is a coincidence , but even he couldn't outrule that It might have triggered a reaction in her. Im still giving them both their monthly tablet until we get to the bottom of whats going on, because it does work more effectively than any other flea treatments we have tried on them He did a very comprehensive blood test, and we should get the results back this Tues. He doesn't think theres any serious to worry about at this stage. She's been fine otherwise for her 10 years of age.
  3. Can comfortis cause mild shaking/tremors in some dogs? I recently started using it, (a few months ago) and Joey had a really bad reaction after first tablet, took him to the vets and they said it could have just been a once off. Said if it happened again, not to use it on him. Hes been ok since, but when i give it to them, they both scratch like crazy for a few days after ! Renae has developed occasional mild shakes/tremors over the last few months, not sure if its related? but it seems to tie with then time ive been giving them to them. I'm taking her to the vets this Sat morning just for them to give her a bit of a check over.. Not sure if it was related, they would admit to it.. They (the comfortis) do work over everything else that hasn't ! (once they get the initial scratching over with) Fleas are quite rampant where we live
  4. Thats so cute Love seeing pics like this and hearing about animals that get along with each other
  5. Really? Three months isolated? oh really ? as individuals in the same hotel? or different hotels ? how do you know this ?
  6. Whenever you write about what happens in your house, it freaks me out. I don't know how you stay there. I'd be gone in a flash. The simple explanation for that one is that water-based paint does a terrible job of holding back oils. So a greasy (or sooty) hand-print will keep showing through layers of water based paint. Layer upon layer upon layer in my personal experience. A spirit-based primer (no joke!) will seal it in and water-based paint sticks to that. ETA: cool story (although it cost me a fortune). I supplied a material to protect signage outdoors at Uluru. A year or so later the film started to fail so I asked them to send one back to me. The whole sign was covered with ochre hand prints, but it wasn't superficial. The ochre hand prints were etched deep into the film (this is a film developed by Du Pont to resist very strong chemicals). They looked like aboriginal hand paintings. We sent a sign off to a lab and the explanation that came back was interesting. We've all heard of acid rain. Well, acid is also present in dew. It's very dilute, but as the sun dries the dew, the acid becomes more and more concentrated. Eventually it etches the film, then ochre from the dust in the atmosphere stains it. The dew tends to settle where the surface tension on the film was lowered by skin oils, hence the hand patterns. Oh ok, that might explain that mystery then, but there are many others
  7. we have gotten used to the stuff around here, it does seem to have quieten down of late, even Joey isn't yapping at the thin air and wagging his tail at it, as much as he used too  ps I meant to quote your other comment, not this one
  8. We have hand prints on our kitchen ceiling beam that no matter how many times we clean it off, it keeps coming back so nothing surprises me anymore
  9. what about that man you had problems with long time ago, the cop one, or ex cop, the ex partner, sorry i can't remember who he was, just remember you doing a post long time ago about him. Is he long gone now? does he know where u live now? I got my husband to listen to it, but he was not really listening properly because he was doing something else at the time, typical but he thought it was one of the dogs making some weird howling sound and being distorted by the dictaphone.
  10. I know you said the tv was on in another room, but could Totally Wild (channel 10) have been on at the time ?? Im just being silly ;-)
  11. unless you live in Goolwa SA, then anything is possible !
  12. Im pretty sure if you post a topic in here, you can share it in another section of the forum, if it belongs to you and you've not promoting business ?? Not sure tho..
  13. do you leave a radio or the tv on when you not home?
  14. I think its a spirit upset at the dogs carrying on so much  Put it in OT, im sure some of the logical ones will be able to debunk it ;-) It is weird tho !
  15. Ive just seen this, I rarely come in here. You might have posted on your fb, but not everyone's stuff comes up now in my newsfeed since the timeline change:( Im so sorry Eza (and family) * Gentle hugs* How heartbreaking RIP Cooper, run free over the rainbow bridge. My Jenna will be there to play ball with you x
  16. we use a toy box with some non slip matting on top at the base of our bed. Thats been good enough for Renae and Joey until recently, but Joey has been feeling insecure lately getting down from it, so we have put a small suitcase with a towel wrapped around it as another step. He seems to be ok now with that. Doesn't look very glamorous lol but it does the trick! Its a bit extra work when doing the floors, but oh well, they come first :)
  17. Melody is soooo gorgeous !! Lovely pics of her! Enjoy !! :D
  18. oh wow, hope time flies fast for you today Llante ! I do like the name Melody, its very cute !:D
  19. Thanks Llante :) I'm kind of glad some of them haven't gotten back to me tbh because after some more research and feedback from people, I think perhaps it was good they have ignored me :) Deep down thats why i would like a girl, so I can do the same as you re bows and pretty accessories, But if its a boy, then I'll be just as happy too. I've never been able to have a human baby, so this will be extra special for me too :)
  20. Hi All :) I've owned dogs all my life, but at the age of 46, I've never actually ever had one as a puppy ! Both Renae and Joey are getting on in ages now 10 and 8, (thats getting on for a cavalier, well 10 is) and i've start getting serious about looking for my next Cavalier, which will definitely be a tri colour one. I've always wanted a tri ! :D I am not fussed about which sex, but deep down I am favouring towards a girl (if that should become an option when the time comes). Ive always had 2 dogs at a time, and always one male and one female and they all been loving towards me. Ive been in contact with a handful of breeders, but only one has been thoughtful enough to keep me updated a few times about where she is at with upcoming litters. (Too me that is a good sign) So fingers crossed for me please... that a puppy is on the horizon for us ! Hope to participate in this thread at some stage. Its all very exciting isn't it !
  21. I don't know if its the same thing, but Renae has always had a lump on her tail bone. Its just a fatty tissue lump, that has gotten slightly larger over the years. (Its never leaked tho) I have been told she can have it removed if it gets uncomfortable for her. She used to bite at it, but hasn't for a long time now. She's 10 now, so unless it does get worse at any stage, Im not bothered about having it removed. Anyway lumps should be checked out regardless. (ok just re read that you have had it checked out)
  22. We are the same. The only people we trust to look after our Cavs at our house is my parents, but if only for a short time. They are getting on in age and getting very forgetful and bit too complacent with a lot of things. We have left the cavs with their breeder, but just overnight. We trust her entirely. We generally don't go away anyway. I don''t even trust leaving them overnight if they were ill, at at the vets either now
  23. Its a real pity we can't stick some of the humans out there in pounds because they don't live up to our expectations etc
