  1. yeah its hard to exactly know when to act on taking them to the vets Kavik with any different behaviours thats started happening.. It well could be a part of them ageing .... With Renae is her excessive needing food all hours of the night that is not normal either.
  2. I do wonder too if its the meds upsetting her tummy, and shes out of sorts from them also..
  3. Yeah perhaps :) im sure its fairly normal, but just seems out of character for her .. You could be spot on with what you said, which i have put in bold. Both ours love their crate with a passion, and when we are in the loungeroom if they're not on the sofa with us, thats where they will be :) maybe i should put it in our bedroom for a while and see what she does, altho theres not much room for a crate in our room  Hope you girl is ok now?? poor thing, being unwell is not pleasant. Yeah well thats the thing if its out character for them is that a sign that we are getting ? Hope your girl is ok otherwise ? Perhaps they start doing different things in their senior years that might be of more comfort and security to them?
  4. My last couple dogs (heeler x's) used to love chewing on my horses hoof trimmings when the farrier had been, but i think thats pretty normal and good for them I believe .
  5. Yeah I know and I'm a worry wort at the best of times Thank you again :)
  6. Thanks CHA :) I'm really hoping that is the case .... its just really out of character for her. I hope the meds work too and she perks up :)
  7. Hi Alyosha :) The aircon is in the loungeroom so she wouldn't be feeling it directly, but perhaps the fan (in our bedroom) she is feeling on her bare tummy ?
  8. Thank you for your reply Pollywaffle :) I am thinking thats most likely the reason, and because shes now getting into her senior years (she's just over 10 now), it might be cooler and more comfortable for her under there.. I hope thats the reason ! :)
  9. Hi Everyone :) I recently did a post in the health section about Renae being diagnosed with high liver enzymes. She hasn't been ill as such that we have noticed. Just that we did take her to the vets to have some blood test done because she had started having little shakes and really short little trances/fits.. In every other way she is not ill in any other obvious way, apart from her being excessively hungry, well more than Cavs are usually.. So atm, they have her on 2 different medications and she has to go back to the vets in 6 weeks to see if her levels have come down or not.. What I have noticed that is different in her behaviour is that a couple weeks ago she had an Ultrasound to check if she had any cancers or what might be going on which they shaved her stomach for. When we came home, she went straight under our bed for about a hour. She never sleeps under the bed. She goes under it sometimes to see if there are any crumbs under it but comes back out straight away . We initially thought it could just be that its cool on her tummy (we have tiles in our room), and shes not used to having a bare tummy all over lol, and also because she might have been a bit anxious from having the U/S and needed to hide under it for a while.. But since then I have heard snoring from under our bed and thought what the , wheres that coming from? as they never ever sleep under the bed, only on the floor next to the bed, if they get hot.. Its a hot day today and the aircon and fans are on, and atm shes under the bed snoring away again. Im in our bedroom atm as well having a bit of a rest. This is totally out of character for her, and Im thinking maybe the meds are upsetting her system? What do you all think???
  10. They also come in handy when grass seeds are at their worst, helps prevent getting them painfully in their ears and saves money at the vets! But sometimes they slip over their eyes so we always supervise our Cavs when they have them on.
  11. I can feel your pain oscarmia, absolutely heartbreaking. Know they are still in your heart and will never be far from you spirit wise x
  12. Has the vet mentioned about giving these tablets yet Ursodiol? we have just started Renae on it for her liver toxin issues .. She will have another blood test in 6 weeks time to see if they are helping or not..
  13. Thats so sad, Im so sorry to hear this, how very heartbreaking *gentle hugs* RIP Oscar. Run free over the rainbow bridge to be with Mia (and my Jenna will be there too)
  14. we have snoods for our cavs, but have used soft scrunchies on occasions too..
  15. I rang the vets again this morning and the L/D still not in ! now they are saying most probably tomorrow ! I just said well if they keep saying that its coming in and its not, then I need an alternative especially since they diagnosed my cav with a serious liver problem recently.. The lady who I spoke too said she will ring me tomorrow, and if its not still in will talk to the vet about what I am supposed to feed Renae .. Lets hope so. I'm not rich enough to bulk buy if this is a regular problem once a year like others saying..
  16. Thank you LittleMissOdie, Renae's a tough girl, Im sure she will give it her best go at dealing with it. Im trying to remain positive about it all, especially around her :)
  17. I just wanted to add, all the best if you decided to get him chextheshine :) I have a friend who had 2, now just the one, and she lives on a horse property with her family and they have always enjoyed pottering around with her.
  18. Sorry to hear your dog is having liver issues also.. I seem to be reading more about it now in different dogs of different ages Just letting you know our Cavs are brachy breeds and both have had ops over the years for different things including desexing and dental work, and both have never had any major problem with being put under. Our 10 year old Cav recently had an op and they had no trouble with her at all. As Rappie said just discuss any concerns with your vet beforehand. All the best with it ! , we are fighting a liver issue atm too with our 10 year old cav..
  19. I personally prefer my cavs not to be left alone for too long, but that's my personal choice. They do tend to thrive on human company (from my own experiences of owning them) Ive always had 2 dogs at a time, I always think its better imo that they have some form of company continuously if us humans aren't around all the time.. However mine were used to a fair bit of human and other cavy company when they were with the breeder. They are both ex show dogs, and were allowed inside and outside and only were crated when at shows. We have a crate also, but they can come and go in it throughout the day. Its in our loungeroom. When i go out which is not often, it would be 3 or 4 hours at the max. As other have said they do mostly sleep on and off all day, so they probably wouldn't notice you missing for some of those hours.. However young cavs might require more stimulation (ours are 8 and 10 now) ...
  20. I'm glad its artificial then ! My husband and I looked up about it more, and came across conflicting stories about whether the artificial bile is as effective as the genuine one. Anyway will give it a go, not sure we could afford to keep it up long term tho! Will see what the results are in 6 weeks time with her next blood test. I hate that she is on strong meds! . I just hope they are on the right path with it all... Having started comfortis this year for them both, it still makes me wonder if that could have been the cause too (which the vet did say when we questioned him that he couldn't say it wouldn't be a cause, altho unlikely).. I keep going around in circles..
  21. Yeah true Jules, the vet did a rattle of lots of other possibilities .. which has made me even more paranoid now.. Our cavs are rarely outside (except to do their business or if we go on outings), and when they are let out they are only allowed out into a small clean section of our backyard. We never let them drink from other dog's watering bowls. I clean their food bowls regularly.. The thing is it could be anything really... My mind has gone off in all sort of directions thinking what might it have been.. Its doing my head in Ironically im much more careful with the cavs (probably too protective) compared to my dogs in the past, and they never had liver issues. But I guess I was just lucky with them, and it only takes one time to get something into their system..
  22. I'll ask her more next time i talk to her on the phone, or on facbook when we inbox each other :)
  23. A friend of mine's Cav has bouts of it. Not sure what she feeds her cav now (they live interstate) I just know her cav rarely gets treats anymore and food that is very low in fat or has none at all...
  24. Yeah it does make me wonder Jules ! Altho Joey hasn't got any issues.. atm anyway, but who knows if he had a blood test also, would something show up? Ive always given them food from the vets or good quality food from the supermarket... Most of their treats are supposed to be Australia products, but who knows if they are and whats in them exactly ????? I have no idea what the others are feeing their dogs.. I just heard about a few recently.. It will be interesting to see the blood test results in 6 weeks time !
