Hope they (your brother and his wife) are clean and hygienic enough to come into your house, and have no germs on them hehe

Im thinking perhaps thats why no one ever really wants to stay at our house ! My 8 year old neice stays occasionally, and unfortunately she is allergic to our cavs and cats We keep telling her to wash after her hands after she plays with them, but of course at her age, she forgets, or doesn't listen but then later ends up with watery red itchy eyes and gets all upset Doesn't help she's always in their faces..

i just posted that same image in my previous reply erinonthefarm ;-)

At the end of the day, its YOUR house, YOUR rules, unless you can work out a compromise somehow. If I was going to go stay anywhere and there was something I knew I'd be uncomfortable about, I'd make alternative arrangements. This is like our place but with cats too

No not mine, they never lose their appetite

Having Trouble Sourcing Hills Prescription Diet
julesluvscavs replied to best4koda's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We ended up getting some Hills K/D dry food for Renae. The vet staff said that will be just as suitable for now. She's eating it without any problems. :) -
Hi Kiwigirl :) Renae and Joey have always coped fairly well with the heat, in fact they always want to go out in it and sunbake Ive been putting icecubes in their water bowl too. We have mostly tiles on our floors here, and in our bedroom, so I guess maybe because of the heat now shes older, and her shaven belly and not being well, she thinks it cooler under the bed ? LOL about your Bella.. some of their pedantic ways can be endearing too :)I hope Bella is recovering from her surgery ok ? :) Im sorry to hear about your Dad Nic B *hugs* Mine is too maybe in your dad's dogs case she picking up all the emotions with you Dad being ill ? Dogs can be very intuned about such things. Yes it could also be a combo of the vet trip, shaving, meds and heat. Thats what im putting it down too ! She not showing any other sign of distress apart from her occassional shakes. Im getting a friend of mine out soon to give her some osteolign treatment (shes done it in the past on her) see if that helps in any way, cant hurt at this stage. Thank you CHA.:) She's fine, but still going under the bed, im going put it down to her wanting to feel the coolness since its been hot, and her being unwell from the meds. Other than her shakes /mini fits, you would not think she is ill !

High Liver Enzymes In Dogs
julesluvscavs replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Renae is just over 10 as well.. I was supposed to get her some Hills L/D but they are out of stock so they suggested she has Hills K/D dry food in the meantime.. (you can get it in canned food as well at vets) Jules P has given some ideas previously in this post :) or even do a search throughout the health section to do with dogs needing low fat /protein diets. -

Thanks Redangel :) Hope your friend's dog will be ok! How old? Renae hasn't had any problems with pancreatitist as this stage . I did talk to the vets about if that could be a problem also, and they said no.. Let me know how your friend's dog gets on.. -
High Liver Enzymes In Dogs
julesluvscavs replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Ok thanks Jules, I do need to be very careful as Renae is having very little fits from time to time. they only last a few seconds, and they don't seem too serious at this stage, but yeah.. -
High Liver Enzymes In Dogs
julesluvscavs replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Ok thanks Jules, I will strive to give her a diet that is aimed more for her condition. You think the vet would have advised me ... How many egg whites a day/week be ideal? do you just give it on its own or mix it in with some pet friendly milk ? I don't know also how to fill her up (with out being fatty) as shes always excessively hungry now. I cant give her lots of veges as they go straight through her. -
Thanks Minimax and CavsRcute, I will give it a try :) Kayla my apologies for taking your post off track a bit

High Liver Enzymes In Dogs
julesluvscavs replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi Jules :) They did mention Hepatitis, but I don't they think even know 100 percent yet exactly what is going on? I have vaccinated them against Hepatitis, but perhaps theres other types? They rarely mix with other dogs these days, and never drink from other water bowls. The vets do think its a recent build up of toxins thats triggered this off I still keep going back to that new flea treatment that we started giving them earlier this year.. They said just to give her the K/D until they get the liver one back in... didnt say much else really. We dont have chooks but i will try to give her some eggs in the meantime.. I cant give them much veges as it goes through them easily would it be ok to still give her chicken necks couple times a week? if her levels are still very elevated after next test, I will discuss her diet in more detail with them.. they really haven't told me much in that department . No im not going to worm her or put in any other type of chemicals like flea treatments into her for a while.. -

Jules P, if you haven't already see my update in my liver thread. -
Hi Willow :) Ive never heard of her, but do a search using the forums search bar, and it will bring up some related threads. Here is one I quickly pulled up for you http://www.dolforums..._1#entry3836162 The search function has come in handy many times for me :) ps.. I just re read your OP and you were asking if anyone has had a phone consult with Debbie, my apologies
-
Ok thanks! I'm closer to a woolies, so will have a look tomorrow when I do my shopping :) I wont start her off with too much as she does have a bit of weak stomach, well from veges she does How much would you have to give them daily to be effective? I sometimes have the flavoured Jalna ones :)
-
Im thinking I might start Renae on some natural yoghurt especially as shes now on AB's, and will be for a while. which brand do you get minimax ?

Any of your dogs that are having recurring UTI's, you should (if you haven't already) keep check with the vets that its not the start of diabetes. Its probably not, but just pays to keep an eye on things. They can't always tell straight away if its early stages. Not saying any of your dogs have diabetes, but keep an eye on things.
-
I know this is a dog health section, but I suffer with them a fair bit too from my diabetes. I have some cranberry tablets, but i keep forgetting to take them ! arghhh! Your reply CRC has reminded me to start taking them again ! :)

yeah i know *sigh* Im more and more thinking its a security thing and am putting it down to her being off colour atm with her meds etc My last dog was a cattle dog and she would hide in different places when there were storms. The Cavs are not frightened by storms or bad wind so unlike my cattle dog lol Nothing really fazes the Cavs that much. I am thinking its defiantly something shes doing too feel more secure while shes not well. Its not all the time.. Come to think of it one of our cats 'Karma' disappeared for quite a few weeks about 4 years ago (at our last house), and when she came back (she had been injured and was in total shock), she went straight under our bed and stayed there for a good couple weeks, apart from when she went to her kitty litter. . I had to put her food under there for her. So perhaps this is just because of Renae feeling off colour and maybe shes having some side effects from the meds too.. poor girl

High Liver Enzymes In Dogs
julesluvscavs replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I got my husband to call in at the vets on way home from his work.. they now say they cant get the Hills L/D diet dry food for some time, he didnt think to ask if they have the tinned ones. So they said to use the Hills K/D dry food one in the meantime.. I also got him to ask for her results and theres quite a few numbers in bold which we don't know what means.. and its not just one thing thats out, theres a few quite out of the normal range Her ALT is 341 (should be between 5 and 80 if i have read right).. We will see what her next blood test shows up.. I know with myself sometimes my levels for different things can be up high one test but not the next one.. But I guess it depends if there are other levels that are out by a fair bit also that they take into consideration.. -
Hi Kayla :) The vets already think they know whats wrong with her, well as much as think it might be . I did a post in the health section a while ago. Its just that this is starting to concern me, but maybe its normal for what she is going through atm. She has to go back in about 5 weeks now unless she gets seriously ill before then, but she doesn't appear to be atm.. Im not sure they will have a reason other saying it could be her meds upsetting her.. I will pop in there tho in the meantime and let them know my concerns

Joey often get the spooks at night especially and will yap (and on the rare occasion howl) at nothing lol When Renae started going deaf, she started barking bit more too, as they say their senses are often heightened ? So maybe that could be a reason for some dogs who haven't been big barkers in the past ? I will be taking her back to the vets in 6 weeks to get re tested, and if she's still acting strange, I will tell them about it. It seemed to start happening after she had that U/S. She's had U/S's in the past when she had her 2 litters, so it wouldn't have been a new experience for her.
