  1. I've always done everything so routinely . However one of our cavs has a liver toxin issue happening, and I am refusing atm to put any more chemicals into her body if I can avoid it. Weirdly now I am researching heaps about this, this issue of toxins in dogs bodies seems to be more on the increase, makes you wonder . Unless Its just because Im reading about it more now too. Either way i think its becoming a big problem for us humans and our pets. I never really doubted giving them worm /flea treatments in the past, altho ive always been a bit anti vaccinations. They did have the 3 yearly one last year with some side effects. And yes I am aware not treating them can also cause serious problems too, can't win can we
  2. Oh thats so sad Our cats roam freely with our cavs, so far there's never been any issues. They do get a bit shitty sometimes at the cats if they walk past while they eating their tea, but im always around. I would never leave a dog unattended at meal times anyway.
  3. Ive had all the female dogs that I've owned desexed, some when they were youngish, others when they have been older. I've been through it with a foster dog as well. I am happy to say I have never experienced any major or life changing problems as a result. Maybe I've just been very lucky :) One of my dogs had a belly button hernia repaired as well at the same time with no issues :)
  4. I can tell you Janet, I think i may have said about it earlier, but thats ok . I just hope I don't jiinx myself, altho theres been so many signs leading up to it all .. I only want a tri colour cav puppy. Theres 2 in the litter. Im not sure yet which colour the breeder is leaning towards. I guess I will find out in about 4 week long time :) She may even have others on her list that want a tri colour puppy also? Cute about your OH... hes really getting into it isn't he hehe. Sunday is not too far away ! Even when i find out for sure in about 4 weeks time, there will be still be another few weeks before i could bring him/her home.. If you don't see me in here in 4 weeks time, you will know why
  5. Oh wow, how exciting for you all ! Not much longer to go 3 more sleeps hehe
  6. He's gorgeous RJ !! Hope you are able to get him this weekend! :)
  7. I hope so too MTD !! just another 4 weeks to wait to hopefully find out. I hope I can be patient enough to wait that long hehe, I guess I have no other choice
  8. I have been buying it for our cats from woolworths . I haven't seen the dog ones yet.. Every so often when i can afford it, i alternate with the RC dental dry food from the vets.
  9. Yeah thats what I ended up buying as well, as was recommended to me when i was asking for advice at the time :)
  10. I have a male desexed iinside cat who does it only once a year when the neighbours cat and other strays hang around our house I was going get him checked over by the vet in case it was something medical (altho i didn't think it was) but then a friend told me the same thing happens to hers once a year. Hes been fine until a couple a couple weeks ago when it started again, but luckily it was only 2 occasions this time and it was on a bath towel we left on the floor. We have a desexed female cat as well, but she's no problem. She spends most days out in her cat run anyway. The other one prefers being inside. Luckily we have tiles, so they are easy to bleach/disinfect to keep house smelling ok. it would be terrible if we had carpet ! we just have to remember at this time of the year not to leave anything on the floor eg bath towels (which we chuck out if they have been sprayed on) Its annoying isn't it ! Ive used Rescue Remedy in the past on him when we first got him as he fretted badly, can't say it was overly successful .. Im not sure if Fellaway would be more effective? Ive never used it. Not sure what else to suggest. Im lucky its just a seasonal thing in our situation. ps Bicarb soda and Nilodor are both ideal for absorbing smells.
  11. Mine get a small dog biscuit each morning for breaky ,atho Renae is now on a prescription diet, so is getting that with her meds in the morning. In the past (and still with Joey) he either gets RC dental dry food, or one of the good supermarket ones. I would love to use veges as fillers with their dry food, but it doesn't agree with their stomachs. I do give them a bit of raw chopped up carrot if im chopping up some for our tea. Couple nights a week they get a raw chicken neck each. I used to make up a mince (lean one for humans) with veges/pasta or rice mix ages ago for their tea, but have switched to dry food since. On occasions they might get something left over from my husband's tea provided it is safe and gentle on their stomachs. And atm i giving them some natural low GI greek plain yoghurt with their dry food at night. They seem to do well on their diet :)
  12. Its is !! but I can't get too excited for quite a few weeks yet in case I don't get one. Not sure how many others on waiting list also and theres only 4 puppies and then the breeder will want one too! The waiting is unbearable lol Of the colour type I want, there is only 2, one is a boy and one is a girl. We are not fussed either way and have never put in a preference to the breeder to which sex we would prefer. Deep down I would really love a girl, because we are not sure how much longer we will have Renae (and also girl dogs are more fun to dress up lol) but then the breeder if she chooses that particular colour, will most probably keep the girl im assuming. We have said all along this has all come about because of fate, so we leaving it up the Universe to decide it we are meant to get one, and whatever sex it is, either way we will be very happy! :D In your case where you have been given a choice to choose, it must be very hard, but the right one will pick you as they say It is a big decision ! :) Must be exciting getting the house organise for his arrival ! I cant even do that yet. Way too early . Naming them would be the fun part ! Ive never named any of my dogs (except for one), as they have all been older and i have prefered to keep the same names they have been used too. The only dog I ever renamed (he was a younger dog) was because the original owner was a nasty person, and named him Killer. I changed it to Sabre :) I'll keep checking in here from time to time for updates :D
  13. Oooo excellent !! Ive never owned a puppy before, always had rescues or young adults from breeders as well :)
  14. Loving all the puppy pics and reading about them all ! We are currently on a breeders potential owners waiting list. The breeder doesn't make any final decisions until the puppies are about 6 weeks as to who will get which puppy (altho we only are after a particular colour) which narrows us down to 2 from the litter of 4, if they continue to do well. It also will depend which pup the breeder will want to keep for herself. So we have another 4-5 weeks to patiently wait until we know if we will be the the owners of a new puppy cavalier. Please keep your fingers crossed for us :)
  15. are bindi's the same as burrs.? we get them something shocking up here too Least we can get them out easily, even if it takes forever.. least they don't need to generally go to a vet for like with nasty grass seeds if they are embedded in deeply
  16. Snap  i thought of you as soon as this post came up !
  17. Years ago with a dog I had, he started getting this really bad smelly paw. It had like small clumps of grass growing out it Took him to the vets to get checked out, and they said it was a badly infected grass seed in his paw, and it had been there for ages and thats why grass had started growing out from it ! eeek. He hadn't been in any pain that i could tell all that time..
  18. tell me about them arghhhh TLC will probably see this post and say about her recent Grass seed incident with one of her dogs today... I hate them with a passion (grass seeds), the cavs, and one of our cats has had to have a few over the years removed from ears and other areas (in the cats case) at the vets.. I have small area out the back we have temp fenced area off from the big part of the yard to help cut down them getting grass seeds in them, but it still not 100 percent fool proof We also put their snoods on when they go out, (when we remember too) but have to watch them closely when they go out with them on, as they tend to slip over their eyes.. We have too huge a block to easily get rid of grass seeds altogether! Luckily they only come out at this time of the year for a period of time..
  19. I use mostly Aloveen on ours and sometimes the leave in conditioner of the same brand. I have used flea shampoos of various brands from time to time.. The Aloveen smells nice and leaves them feeling soft :) Oh and we also have a rufus and coco brand itchy skin shampoo which is lovely too.
  20. Renae. I usually call Renata Frittata  Joey - Joe, Joester and i often sing .. Joey Joey, Joey the bush kangaroo  Ranae is fully deaf now and Joey is going deaf, but i still use all those names :) I think hubby calls Joey 'piddle boy' sometimes lol
  21. MY Cavs are older now, but both of them don't play with each other like they used too, and both don't play with toys anymore. When we fostered a small dog earlier this year, they did sniff her and interact, but not really play with it as such..
  22. Oh that would do it, especially her sore ear Even dermatitis can get them down .. Its good that you have acted on it anyway :) Hope she starts feeling better soon! Renae is still going under the bed, but she's not acting out of character in any other way. I don't think the vets will know anything else than what I know already. They still don't 100 percent know what is actually going on with her other than her liver enzymes levels being high. Shes on 2 lots of meds, which i do think might be upsetting her system. but shes not vomiting or any having any other reactions, so unless she gets worse, i will wait it out until she has her next lot of blood work done.
  23. I got it from FB, there always some goodies to be found in my news feed from my animal loving friends :D
