Gosh you think they would have known how many they could have before they bought 2 of them The breeders I have dealt with have always said if for some reason they cant be kept, they will take them back, altho this person probably wants to recoup their money i guess..

Well thats mostly good news about your friend's dog redangel ! sounds like what the vet has suggested is a good idea.. with a follow up blood test and watching the dog's diet. Hopefully its nothing too serious ! :)

Thank you Stellnme :) I think i haven't been worrying as much as i had been, only because im not seeing any other signs of illness in her (apart from her shakiness and tiny fits) which i have heard some older dogs tend to get anyway. I think if she was vomiting and losing weight I would have been really paniking.. The other thing she is still doing is her continuous excessive need for food, which we are trying hard to ignore.. which still make me wonder about Cushings. Will go from Monday and see what happens next..

Renae had her follow up blood test yesterday. The vet said she will call me with the results on Monday. She hasn't gotten any worse, but still gets the shakes (just minor ones) and those little trancey fits occasionally .. We told the vet she hasn't been ill as such but if anything shes put on weight ! She finished the AB's a while ago now, but still on those artificial bear bile tablets every day (Ursodiol). She doesn't really want to go on walks anymore, but is healthy otherwise! The vet did say its got them baffled too as shes not showing normal usual signs of liver disease .. so will wait and see what the results show Monday. We haven't given her anything with chemicals in it ( eg flea/worm treatments) since being diagnosed because of the toxin problem they said she had..

Yes Remy i totally understand how it feels !! Ive been waiting forever even up to this point ! :) Yes I have heard/read about taking something that has your smell on it as well to the puppy, but my husband thinks its a bit weird Hes just as excited about it as me tho! I might even take a box of choccys or something for the breeder too! hope shes not reading this thread lol

Hi Remy BC ! How exciting !!! thats about the same time we have to wait for ours to come and join us at our home :) Remy is a lovely name. He sounds very cute! cant wait to see a pic of him! We are hoping to go meet our little girl over the next week or two :)

I know there are some Cavalier people who say cavaliers do fine outside, but from my own experiences they do prefer to mostly be able to be inside and around people, and to be able to sleep on beds/sofas etc lol It doesn't mean they can't still play outside tho and be a dog still :) They do require some grooming and you have to make sure you pull ours burrs/prickles from their coat/paws/ears if they been outside among them. They can be clipped not that I ever do ours, but there is a reason they do have the coat they have. Ears and teeth do need constant checking on as part of a good grooming routine also. They can be active as you want them or non active lol, some even do agility. But you wouldn't want to do too much while they are still young. If they were to go down that path, then they would need to do their research carefully and make sure they find out as much as about Cavaliers beforehand. Our SA Cavalier club have a website that gives out a lot of good information about our breed of dog. Some states have clubs that have fun days for pet owners that are often ideal for people wanting to know more about the breed to go too and have a look around and talk to breeders there in a casual informal way :) They are a fun loving laid back type of family dog :D

I know Janet !! about 5 weeks to go, but we are hoping to go meet her soon at the breeders place :) I am glad your new little boy is going great, hopefully you will be able to overcome the few dramas with your other dog, im sure it can be sorted out :) Wohooo Congratuations Jo C !! Im about to start reading up lots too in preparation of our new little girl coming to live with us in about 5 weeks time. Ours will be coming into home with 2 older dogs, but they are all the same breed so I don't think there are likely to be any real issues.Cavaliers are generally quite laid back with each other. We had a foster dog (not a cavalier) and they all got along better than i thought they would :)

I think every colour Cavaliers produce are beautiful, but my personal fav colour is the Tri Colour (Black, tan and White), which we are getting one in about 6 weeks time !

I always think its a good idea to go to shows and get to the know breeders (provided its not when they are in the middle of being busy!) I had rung up some beforehand and organised to meet them at an upcoming show. Its how Joey came into our lives, as he was at that show, and the breeder was taking expressions of interest for him to the right person/people. Its also a good idea to see if your particular breed has a breed club in your state and to join it, as they often have fun days for pet owners. We have for Cavaliers in SA. I dont think you have to join to just go along to the the fun days to watch and meet people/breeders in a more relaxed enviroment :) It is often who you know .. that can make it easier I have personally found. We have just gone through the process of emailing breeders and yeah some of them never have gotten back to us, even when we have done follow up emails yet you see them advertise their litters in the DOL puppy listings not long after Or I have put my heart in writing the perfect email complete with photos of our cavs, and then you just get a very brief and formal reply like they not even that interested (well thats how I have interpreted them) We ended up finding a lovely one though the Cavalier Club anyway whose been really fantastic and friendly with keeping us up to date with everything! Its the type of breeder that is what we have been after anyway!:) I have encountered some breeders that aren't always easy to approach and talk too, but they not all like that I promise! Oh and goodluck with finding your perfect puppy! I think its often in the timing.. the right one will be out there waiting for you when the time is right ! x
