Perhaps they are !!

Aren't Akitas a dog that howls anyway? or am I thinking of a different breed? :)
-
yeah something to do with brain tumors from memory?? but theres nothing wrong with Joey I dont think !:) Hes a bit weird at the best of times anyway and it seems theres many dogs in here that don't howl as part of their breed, so if that was case all of our dogs in here would have brain tumors!

Joeys done it twice, scared the c*&p out of me first time ! Once when he was asleep and once in daylight while he was awake ! It was bizzare, especially coming from a Cavalier! My husband thought I was making it up but he has since heard Joey howl too! I panicked and googled about why dogs that don't normally howl, do? don't google it, you won't like what it comes back with ! But its good to know Joey's not the only one then! ;-)

Having Trouble Sourcing Hills Prescription Diet
julesluvscavs replied to best4koda's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Our vets finally got some in (the Hills Liver Diet one). They rang a week and a half ago to say its finally come in, and I said well i dont want it now lol Renae has been on the Hills Kidney one, and its lasting forever because I am only giving her a small handful these days (for tea) with lots of veges, as shes wacked on heaps of weight ! Her last blood test showed her liver enzimes levels had gone back to almost normal. If they have gone back up when she has her next blood test, I will get the pkt they ordered in, unless its been sold in the meantime. Its the biggest bag, so its not cheap! -
most cat owners i know when you say about it they say but ''oh but they don't roam off our property'' Yeah right!! arghhhhhh!
-
Its so annoying isn't it! Our cats stay inside or go into a cat run and yet we have cats coming onto property! We do the right thing, but doesn't seem like others do! There are products you can spray around ypur place to deter them but we would need heaps to put it everywhere, would work out too exxy! Ive let the cavs out to chase them, but the cats still come back! And at a certain time of the year they cause my desexed Raggie to get very territorial and he will start spraying on things. He can smell them from inside our house !

She's very clever !! Can't say mine do do anything out of the ordinary.

I hope any lost pets are able to be reunited safely with their owners again soon. So very sad -
Awww she sounds so perfect ! The thing is there are no guarantees with anything in life be it with us humans or our pets. Just treasure each and every day you have with her Try not to worry too much as difficult as it is as she will pick up on it. .x

Yeah its hard not too get too excited over it all, things can and do go wrong ! but fingers crossed all goes well . I totally understand your excitement tho ! -
I think its always best to wait a while before posting for advice (such in this case) especially if a breeder may be on Dol. And its always to best to communicate with them first, sometimes they can't always get back to someone straightaway, they might be busy with other things ! I wouldn't go naming a breeder publically on here unless its full of good praise for them :) People do get very reactive on here at times, sometimes for the right reasons, and sometimes for the wrong reasons ;-)

Its a catch 22 situation all these things we are supposed to give them.. if you don't you run the risk of them getting something, if you do you run the risks of putting too many toxins into their bodies ! One of our Cavs had some toxin poisoning and liver issues recently and we strongly believe now it was due to her last flea treatment, as it was a fairly recent build up. Even her vet can't dispute that it wasn't.. Atm I am very hesitant to give them anything, but of course one has to still treat them as well for all the nasty things. I am getting a puppy very soon, and all this is weighing heavily on my mind as to how I will go about giving her treatments and how often. I will be speaking to her breeder for advice as well. I think we really need to be very cautious about what ingredients are in some of these treatments, and if they have had issues with with certain breeds or dogs, or dogs with previous health issues. Pays to research them all !

how exciting dashdotdash! Hope all goes smoothly ! :) -
I don't know anything about puppies and deafness, but one of Cavs 'Renae' has now gone totally deaf (altho it appears she can feel vibrations of some sounds ) We have learnt to do a lot of hand signals now with her, and she seems to understand them. We just have to becareful not startle her if shes asleep and if we go up to her . If she sees Joey yapping, she follows suit tho lol They do adapt :) Have they also checked (despite the vet having examined this dog) that theres no gunk in deep down in its ears? We thought Joey was going deaf too but discovered it was full of waxy stuff and once we cleaned it out (took a fair bit of cleaning over a period of time) he was fine then :) I would think the vet would have been able to tell that tho , altho they not always that thorough and do miss things sometimes.

Tricks To Teach A Puppy
julesluvscavs replied to *kirty*'s topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I remember years ago, I taught one of my dogs (German x Heeler) to do some tricks. Thought it was cute and funny until I start doing dog obedience trials with him. If I moved a part of my body a certain way he would think it was a cue to do one of his tricks! One time on a drop stay, I think i must have did a cue with my hands or something (was to long ago for me to remember the details) but it was enough to make him start belly crawling towards me , one of the first cute things he learnt which I used to always reward him for. Everyone thought it was funny after, but it so was embarrassing ! lol and of course we didn't pass Its difficult to undo it all later ;-) I might teach my new puppy some tricks when she comes, but Im going to compete with her in any obedience trials later . -
I don't find it weird- I got photocopies of my pup's parent's pedigrees as well - it was good to have a hardcopy of those while I waited (for what seemed like ages!) for my pups pedigree certificate :) I haven't got my puppy yet, but the breeder already a while back sent me a copy of the pup's parents pedigrees via an email :)

I'm Not Really Sure If This Counts As A 'problem' As Such.
julesluvscavs replied to I love goldens's topic in Puppy Chat
Hi ILG :) Everyone has different views, but I will be personally waiting for 2 weeks after Miah has her second vaccinations before I will be allowing her to mix with other dogs (apart from our own which are vaccinated) and going out in public. I will also be taking precautions when we take her to the vets for her second vaccinations. It might be ok, but i rather play it safe than be sorry later ;) Ps how exiting, not long to go now for you ! Do you know about dol's subforum for members different breeds of dogs? you can always ask questions in there also (if they are active in there). :) http://www.dolforums.com.au/forum/51-breed-sub-forums/ -
Thats fair enough WDO :) All the best with whatever puppy you end up getting and Im sure you will make wonderful owners when he/she comes along ! Ps Its worth the long wait for the right one !

I think that applies here in SA now as my soon to be puppy has just been mirochipped and then registered with Dogs SA .
