  1. Are they this one? http://www.4pawspremiumdoggiesnacks.com/ They are the ones we buy every month for ours. They get one each for breakfast and as an occasional treat
  2. The same person does our Goolwa Markets once a month, ours take turns at going to visit their Aunty Katie and getting their monthly order
  3. I don't know anything about the mirrorless ones but i have a Nikon D3200 with various lenses . Example from Google . I have the red model. It's not the latest one but it was within my budget at the time and it takes great shots imo, It feels just the right size for my small hands. Not too heavy to cart around even with my back problems altho i never walk too far with it obviously the bigger the lenses you put on it or any DSLR makes them heavier.
  4. One of our Cavs 'Toby' has really long legs so not a small type cavalier. He's also a fantastic jumper !
  5. I'd get it if the breeder was willing to look after it during those times. Its not like its a long time away, altho puppies grow quickly (well more so their personalities i mean )and during that early stages of bonding is a special time between the puppy and the owner/s. We didn't even get Miah until she was 10 weeks, so if your friend is getting hers younger, then a couple weeks isn't going make much of a difference. However for me personally if i was that situation i don't think i'd have anyone else look after my puppy unless it was my breeder. Buts that's just how i am, everyone has different feelings about it. I just think if the puppy got sick or injured it might put friends in a uncomfortable position later if something unpredictable should go wrong. But then it could happen at the breeder's place also. Sounds very exciting tho !
  6. I'm trying our almost 13 year old Cavalier on melatonin atm as she get very anxious pre dinner time. Its not the one with extra stuff in it.. the one we are giving her is meant to be safe for dogs. Its a bit hit and miss still with dosage, and its meant to be absorbed through the mouth slowly before they swallow it ( so we crush it and mix it in with something so it takes longer for her to gulp it down) Cant say theres been a huge difference yet.. but its still early days. We did read it has been successful for other dogs with anxiety.. for those that don't want to go down harder stuff for anxiety issues.
  7. another time years ago i noticed what look like dried blood on Renae's paw and was quite worried she had cut herself.. i was almost going get it checked by the vet but luckily i had worked out she had put her paw the day before on her birthday cake which i had done pink cake icing for that would have been very embarrassing!
  8. Years ago i rang our vet for advice as one of our Cavs (who was about 2 at the time) was running around crazy and knocking into things and panting hard ... I thought he was having a fit of some sort.. The nurse said it sound like he's having a zoomie. Said if he doesn't calm down in the next 20 mins or so to bring him in.. Of course he did stop a few mins after i got off the phone Miah has done neaps and i've i have never rung the vets about them
  9. Our oldest Cav is almost 13 and she has her good days and bad days. She's starting to get very weak in her back end . She still goes to jump on the sofa but i have to give her a boost up a lot now.. It is very sad watching them aging.. We don't take her on walks now altho on the odd occasion my husband will take her on her own just down the street (not the whole street) so she thinks shes been on an outing. She does pull up lame, so she doesn't get to do it that often anymore We give her an arthritis treat daily. We do have a large backyard which one section is divided off and every so often we let her and the others have a bit of stretch out in it.. She always seems happy and satisfied she can get to do that ;)
  10. Ps if you have pet mice/lizards..... best keep them away from Cavaliers ;-)
  11. All ours have gotten on with our small animals (birds, cats and a bunny) BUT they are never left together unsupervised and we keep cats and bunny's claws trimmed to help avoid any injuries if something should go wrong. One of our not so nice cats lashed out at Miah when she was younger because Miah wanted to play with her (and the said cat wasn't in a good mood that day) and it almost cost Miah her eye But generally they all are well behaved with each other. They know to avoid the not so nice cat (our other cat is more laid back). The bunny has nipped me a could times but never the Cavs!
  12. We had a wonderful ongoing relationship with our first 2 Cavaliers Breeder right from the start. She always encouraged updates and we could email her any time with any questions. We would meet up with her at the Cavalier pet owner fun days twice a year.Once she even looked after them for us when we went away for a couple of days We eventually became very good friends with her on facebook also and interacted regularly (until recently). I always tagged her when i put up pics of our Cavs, She helped us during a very sad traumatic time when one our Cavs had to be given his wings a couple years ago. Tragically she passed away very suddenly a couple weeks ago, never thought she'd go before Renae who will be 13 soon All those years of friendship and turning to her for advice, now nothing. We even went to her funeral Our youngest Cav 'Miah' bred by another breeder has become very good friends of ours now as well over the last couple years. She's also on my fb and she sees all pics of Miah growing up. We can also email or ring her with any questions/advice. We also meet up with her at the fun days. She came to Miah's 1st birthday party (so did our other breeder friend as mentioned before) I have always been prepared to wait whatever time its taken to find the right breeder to have the relationship i have had/have with ours. We feel very blessed to have found these special two people. They have been an important part of our extended family oops sorry you were asking breeders, i got carried away
  13. Thank you Everyone for your kind words and thoughts
  14. Last week we lost a beautiful person (breeder and exhibitor) suddenly and unexpectedly in the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel world I and many of her friends and family are still in deep shock. I still remember the day my husband and I met Merry at a dog show. We were there enquring with breeders about a puppy litters in the future. Merry had a young male show dog up for sale to the right person/family. Little did we know that day, we would become her Cavalier 'Joey'' new owners (Well a few weeks later) Owning one of Merry's Cavs was a real privilege as she was always very fussy what homes her Cavaliers went to. We went on to become good friends of hers and her Partner. Eventually she chose us (years ago) to have her beautiful foundation bitch 'Renae', when she finished breeding and showing her. She knew we would give her the best loving home ever and that she could still stay in contact with her. Merry and her Partner (David) were very involved and active in the SA Cavalier Club and we often met up at the fun days. She always loved seeing Joey and Renae. I loved that she was always there for us and our Cavs (which I find in important in a breeder) and when we were losing Joey and during and after, she was there for us . When Miah our youngest Cavalier (not bred by her) had her 1st birthday party she made a huge effort to come to it with a few of her Cavaliers. I know she and everyone else had the best time that day. She was meant to visit us in January this year , but it didn't end up happening and I really feel sad now we didn't catch up not thinking we would never see her again. We were facebook friends so most days we would interact one way or another on our pages. Renae is almost 13 and I never thought in my wildest dreams she would end up outliving her son Joey and her breeder Merry (Merry was only in her early 60's) We will have many fond memories of her for years to come. She was a huge part of our lives and she will always be in my heart. Merry's funeral will be this Thurs (26th Feb). The details are in todays Advertiser (and online) It's going a be a tough emotional one for her family and friends. She will always be remembered for being passionate about her family, especially her 2 young Granddaughters, her Cavaliers of course and her love of the football team Sydney Swans.. She must have been one of their biggest fans (and an active one at that !) I miss her a lot and am heartbroken i will never see or hear from her again Merry with Miah at Miah's 1st birthday party Merry with Renae a couple years ago at a Cavalier fun day
  15. When I was emailing breeders a couple years ago, I sent an email to them all with a bit of a bio on my husband and I and the rest of our pets. I also sent a photo of me and a few of our pets. Turned out the breeder we ended up going with was someone we knew of at the SA Cavalier Club, altho we didn't know her personally at that stage. We have become fb friends with our Cavaliers's breeders since. Even the Cavalier that was rehomed to us not long ago 'Toby' his previous owner came to our place a couple times and visa versa (over a period of a month)so we could all get to know each other and to see if Toby would like living here. Our Cavalier 's breeders are very selective but fair and both don't take deposits on their puppies and only take payment on the day if all has gone smoothly and they are happy with where their puppies are going. One of them actually brings hers personally to their new home and once she didn't feel right about a situation so she didnt leave it there she took it back home with her. If i was a breeder, i'd be the same. Id be fussy as well. Its their call at the end of the day. Most experienced breeders i have met have a good gut instict anyway. ps.. I'm equally fussy with the breeders we choose also. And if it means waiting till the right one comes along, then thats what we do and have done ;)
  16. Must be very difficult at times DD.. Touch wood but Renae hasn't had any plumbing issues yet..
  17. I thought i would just add this fun pic I took of Toby yesterday. He's not most prettiest Cavalier we have owned, but his personality sure makes up for it. Has the best temperament ! Some people on here have said they not keen to get a cavalier because they are too 'girlie' looking but i don't think Toby fits that mould. I have often said on DOL, Cavaliers come in different shapes and sizes (and colours) . Both Miah and Toby are fairly short coated compared to Renae and how Joey was.. easier to groom! :)
  18. I must say its been a challenge getting Miah and Toby to sit nicely at the table for their photos... lots of blurry photos have been taken as a result Renae is an old hand at it now !
  19. Thank you so much everyone !! :) I just hope the time doesn't fly too fast from on. I don't want her to get any older ! lol We take birthday pics every year for all of our Cavs. Still feel sad when Joey isn't in any of them anymore but life goes on hey. Toby's birthday next.. March next year, same month as my birthday :) DD. even tho Toby looks nothing like Joey, he has a very similar gentle nature
  20. lol Hankdog :) They are very loving dogs. Miah and Toby are the best of buddies, double trouble they are at times
