  1. Theres no way i will be taking any chances with my female puppy since she will be purely a pet and not used for breeding. Im hoping to get her done around 5-6 months old. Also it is part of her breeders contract :)
  2. Like you also, we haven't had kids either, so it was now or never to experience at least having a puppy in our lives..:) Im so glad that we are finally experiencing the joys of owning a puppy !! I don't know what to suggest about your situation with working, I'll let others respond who have had puppies and work full time.. We were waiting for a long time, and for the breeder to confirm her Cav was expecting and then we had to wait even more to see if we were going be chosen for one of her puppies ( we were high on her list anyway) I has secretly been hoping for a girl, but never told the breeder as I was just exited to be even getting either a male or female of the colour I wanted. It was fate as they were born last Nov on our 8th Wedding Anniversary ( a week early), and the Mother had 2 of the colours we had been wanting, and later the breeder asked us if we were interested in the female one. The rest is history ! If its meant to be, it will happen. I believe its all in the timing ! :)
  3. Sorry to hear about your girl, hope shes feeling better since they have put her on a drain and being on AB's. Sounds like its quite big! I have had no personal experience of it with any of my dogs, altho i did have a tiny Salivary Gland cyst under my tongue years ago, but it popped and drained itself before I was due to go get it drained by the Specialist . If you do a search using the search box you might find a couple of other posts about Salivary Gland problems, as I have read them in here before.. All the best 3Woofs with your girl !
  4. Hi Yvonne I left a comment for you in the Introduction section. Once again sorry to hear about your Winston *hugs* Its the first time we have had a puppy, its hard work and tiring at times, but totally worth it ! I don't know how people who work full time keep up with a puppy, but obviously they do ! I have never had a puppy before because of working, but now Im home full time (because of some disabilities) Ive been waiting patiently to have one ( now at the age of 46!) I recently took a few weeks off my volunteer work so I could get our puppy (Miah) settled in, my husband also took a week off his work because of her. I recently rang my volunteer job up and explained I need more time off as I dont want to be leaving her for too many hours just yet, as shes very mischievous and very active (altho she does have quite a few naps inbetween her bursts of energy). We also don't like to keep our Cavs outside when we are not home, and defiantly not a puppy. But of course everyone is different and whatever works best for them. All the best with getting a puppy! fun times ahead Btw our puppy came to us at 10 weeks, as her breeder keeps them to that age, and at just over 13 weeks now, she is about to start puppy kindy this week :) A good breeder will provide you with lots of info and ongoing support !
  5. I've always had 2 dogs at a time. This is the first time Ive had 3 apart from a very short term foster dog. Ive never found it hard with 2 dogs as they usually been past the puppy stage when ive gotten them. Now we have a puppy and I must say its harder work than i thought (Im not getting any younger ! lol ) Cavaliers are usually easy and laid back to have around tho. I personally find 2 is nice number, and when Renae goes, we wont be getting another dog.
  6. Yes agree with Sandra :) Our breeder of our new puppy has been vey thorough with all that, and Ive emailed her since with more questions . Of course be prepared when you go for your puppy's second vaccinations and check up at your vets, they may try to promote their food as well. I just listened to them but doing what our breeder has adviced us.'' Its very exciting getting a new puppy !! all the best Katie :)
  7. Its funny how different vets tell people different things.. Someone i know was told if she was going to feed her puppy raw then to get some calcium supplements.. My vet said when he asked what diet i was giving my puppy (raw and natural) to watch out you don't give her too much calcium in her diet ! He doesn't know the exact details of her diet.. Im being guided by my Miah's breeder as to how to feed her, and I trust her. If they are getting a variety of things as Pers said, then they shouldn't need supplemenst I wouldn't think..
  8. RIP Charlie.. you were so brave... That last photoshoot with him is beautiful and will always be very precious to you Vi
  9. Ive got a big bag of it waiting for me at the vets that finally came in , but Renae's levels are normal atm (even tho shes still not well) and because ive got the kidney diet one they suggested as a substitute., I haven't needed to buy it .. I said they can sell it to someone else that has a dog with liver issues, I dont think they too happy with me, but too bad I ordered it ages ago when I was desperate for it.. Its over $100 !
  10. I have a puppy food obsessed as well.. shes a Cavalier after all lol I Ive caught her chewing on those little white stones out the back eeek! i dont know if shes actually swallowed any yet, I will have to keep a very careful eye on her ! I gave her a kong but shes already chewed the rubber bits of it already
  11. Hi Rosetta, Frontline did work for a while but doesn't anymore for ours. We live on the coast and have sandy soil here I hate putting any chemicals into/onto their body at the best of times too Im going try to avoid dry food with my new puppy and stick to what her breeder has recommended.. raw and natural
  12. Yeah Ive been researching it since SSM .. and also it says not to use on dogs that have fits.. Well Renae didn't have them before, but has had some very mild type ones since It was the only flea treatment that worked successfully here too! I even had to take Joey once to vets after giving him one as he was scratching excessively and apparently some dogs have been known too have really bad side effects and die after which is why they insisted i bring him in straightaway (after i called them). Ive stopped using it. My apologies I have taken this post off track a bit but it was when i was trying to work out what caused her sudden liver enzyme problem, and they are the only 2 things that had come to my attention that may have caused it all, that were new to her system.. the purina dog food and the flea treatment.
  13. Yeah the ingredients are sourced locally thats why i wasn't as paranoid as I was at the time of reading the article..
  14. I haven't touched it since. I personally think she had the problems after giving her comfitis (flea treatment). I haven't given her any of that either since.
  15. Yeah i posted this in the health section on dol after i was worried it might be the cause of Renae's previous liver toxin problems ( she only ever had it once) so did our other cav, but he's fine.. Apparently the Australian ones are sourced from local ingredients, which I was more relieved after finding that out. Its still sold in our Supermarkets here.
  16. Miah our new puppy has been doing that eeek when she goes outside We did try to remove as many as we can in her area, but its almost impossible to get rid of every single one. I take them out of her mouth if i see her chewing on one, but sometimes I think she has swallowed them! they only very little stones. I think it may be typical for a puppy to do, not sure about an older dog? Our older 2 cavs have never chewed on stones.
  17. He looks adorable ! Not good tho about his past circumstances, Good on you for taking him on and showing him some love and care, and I hope he gets to stay with you ! x ps.. Hope he feels better soon too, poor boy .
  18. She is, shes very cute. Your puppy is doing very well then Huski ! at her carrying around all those things altho I hope she doesn't drop the house brick on her legs or on anyone else hehe They certainly provide hours of entertainment don't they! lol I just wish i had half the energy they have !
  19. oh i hope so, thanks for letting me know, i'm going do some asking around next week :) did you take Simi a couple weeks after the second lot or or the 3rd booster one?
  20. Ive just been through this morning with our puppy. She was due for her C5 (shes already had her 1st C3) but for now we decided on C3 again with her needing a booster in a months time. Of course the vets did recommend C5. Im not sure now tho if i will be allowed to do puppy school tho. We will reassess the situation if need be. As i wrote earlier I will not be vaccinating our almost 11 year old Cav again because of her health problems at her age. Ive heard of someone had their dog vaccinated against kennel cough and still got it badly
  21. A genuine buyer won't question the price. We just paid a fair bit for our new puppy. Money wasn't even discussed for ages!. We had a good idea in our heads what price range she would be.. so had been saving for a long time. Even tho Im not a breeder, I know how much work, time and money they put into them. And I know in our case the breeder will offer us a lifetime of support, which is priceless in itself. I guess a lot of people aren't aware of what goes into ethical and responsible breeding, and the price of a puppy might come as a bit of a shock to them if they don't know any better. I hope Mother and puppies are all doing well now . Thats a lot of work 12 puppies! Enjoy them :)
  22. . I was half asleep when i read your comment anyway, bit sleep deprived lately I wonder if theres some industrial strength disinfectant you could spray down the furniture/patio with ? one that people with kennels use?
