  1. I remember in the beginning with Miah saying to my husband lets not let her have her water at night (in her pen). But it was more laziness on my behalf as i din't want to keep getting up so often (i need my sleep lol) Hubby said no werve not going do that, she needs it available to her at all times, and he's right. Now shes getting older, shes not going as often. Like DD said puppyhood is such a short time in terms of having to take them out that often . Even before an op, they will tell you not to let your dog drink too much overnight, but they can still have very small amounts.
  2. I can imagine how you must be feeling, been there done that Yeah it does feel like forever, i was at your situation once Steph :)
  3. Miah is almost 19 weeks now, shes calmed down heaps compared to those early weeks of late nights and very early morning puppy craziness lol She gets her breaky between 6am and 7am, lunch 12-1.30pm and tea between 5 and 6pm.. shes gets plenty of toilet breaks during the day (and a couple during the night),, is napping less during the day, but will go to bed earlier when we do now. (around 10pm) She gets up very early with the other 2 cavs to go to toilet, have breaky, run around for a little while, but I can now go back to bed for another couple hours, and she will often come back with the other 2 cavs for some quiet time before we all get up properly :). Caeser is looking gorgeous :)
  4. Loving all the Easter pics, they are all beautiful ! We bought an Easter Hamper from Kaya's Mission for the Cavs, which included beautiful Easter themed Bandanas (and an Easter hamper bag) made by Haughty McNaughty, Easter treats from Pawsome, toys and a cute handmade Easter bunny soft toy. Happy Easter from all of us at The Love Shack, Goolwa SA. *It wasn't easy trying to take pics of them all with treats around lol They all had their bandannas on, its just that they aren't showing up clearly in some of the pics
  5. Awww Oliver is a cutie ! Thank you also Westiemum for taking him on. I have a lot of respect and admiration for people that take on dogs and give them a second chance in life for love and happiness and better health! Hope he finds a perfect forever home when the time is right x
  6. Thank You Sujo Sounds like Flynn is going really good too ! we had a mixture of different type puppies in our class including a great dane puppy which was hugeeeee, well compared to Miah anyway ! lol Id love to see a current pic of Flynn, can you post one in here to show me pleaseee :)
  7. Miah graduated from puppy school the other night, shes doing very well, just highly excitable as expected lol http://julesluvscavs...l.html?spref=fb
  8. Sorry to hear this Lisa *hugs* I have always believed that timing is everything :) x
  9. Can't answer anything to do with your Lab questions, but just wanted to pop in to say how exciting for you all !! Puppies are so much fun and will provide hours of entertainment, enjoyment and smiles !
  10. Ive been through a similar thing with our almost 11 year old Cavalier 'Renae' re toxins in her body and high liver levels . They had her on strong AB's and some other stuff which seems to have sort of fixed the problem, but shes still not 100 percent. They still don't know whats actually going on with her, and im not wanting them to do any more invasive tests on her (apart from an U/S she had a while back) No help sorry with your particular problem, just wanted to say sounds a bit similar.. They said at the time Renae should have been showing a lot more signs of illness, but shes never vomited and shes never lost weight (quite the opposite actually) We only took her to the vets in the first place because of some shakes shes been having, and some mini fits. They thought it might be connected to the toxin problem, but last test came back normal and shes still got all those symptoms At the time she was meant to go on a liver diet, but they couldn't get the liver dry food in for ages, so shes been on the science hill kidney one instead.. Ps Have they suggested another blood test in about 6 weeks? thats what we did for them check Renae's levels again, which were mostly normal..
  11. I was a little nervous about getting a puppy, as Ive never owned one before, and im not young and energetic anymore. But after the initial first couple of very tiring weeks of adjusting some of our routine, Im loving it and not stressing so much. As everyone has said to me Enjoy the puppy stage, as they grow up very quickly, and not puppies for very long :)
  12. Im not getting our older cavs done at all anymore. Think they had the 3 yearly one done a few years ago. Miah our new puppy had her first lot done with her breeder, but her second and booster, I just had the C3, not the C5. The other components are treatable should she get something. I will reassess the next lot when she's due as an adult if I decide to get her done or not, probably might just one lot of the 3 yearly ones if I do. I don't care how much they push it. We have been doing puppy kindy, and the instructor accepted her in with the C3. And another training place we might go too later (after puppy kindy) accepts just C3 as well or holistic vaccinations. Its highly unlikely she will ever have to go into kennels.
  13. Id never thought I would be interested in this thread until we got Miah (her breeder advocates raw and natural) I have applied aspects of it to my Cavs and past dogs, but not as full on as Im doing with Miah now. Its not easy being that Im a vego but my husband (who is not a vego) is helping me with it. Ive been going by Miah's breeder's feeding guidelines, so far so good . Its not as difficult as I thought it was going be. Took her to the vets last week for a vacc booster and checkup, and he said she was in really good form for her age :)
  14. Ok thanks Minimax. I was just interested for my own curiosity :)
  15. See thats what the vet cautioned me about with my puppy, not that he knows exactly what we are giving her. Going by her breeders instructions atm. We don't feed that Van stuff tho.. So apparently not enough calcium is bad for them and too much is dangerous for them too ( why is that anyway, as I don't know ?? the too much calcium ?)
  16. Hi merikuri :) Im am fortunate in some ways ( but not in others) that I am able to be home most of the time. I have not had to leave her longer at home for more than a hour, if that, so I can keep putting her out often, altho she still catches me out inbetween me doing that Im not sure what to suggest, since i'm not in your situation. I know there have been many threads on dol about people with puppies and having to leave them home for longer periods of time.. I personally only crate our dogs for short periods of times.
  17. I would think you still have to get the amounts and rations right for your size puppy/dog.
  18. We have had some really bad problems with fleas where we live (beach/river areas -sandy soil) Frontline was good for a while, then it stopped working. Have tired it in various forms The best product that actually worked really well was comfortis, but im too scared to use it now. Might have been just a coincidence but Joey had a reaction to it in the beginning, and then there was Renae's recent big health scare with a toxin issue going on that the Vets couldn't find what had caused it ( they couldn't outrule it wasn't the comfortis). I haven't given her any for the last few months, and now her levels are reasonable ok. She also never had fits before, now she does ( but that might not be because of the flea treatment.! It does say not to use on dogs that have problems with fits.. however she never had them before). I ended up giving the rest of the pkt to a friend who uses them successfully on her dog. Her dog has never had any reactions to them :) ATM i haven't given Joey or Renae any type of flea treatment as im too scared too, but luckily the fleas haven't been too bad lately *touch wood* I do wash them in natural flea shampoos occasionally. I am giving Miah revolution ( monthly for heartworm and flea control) so will be watching to see how that goes!
  19. RIP Sam I love the beautiful pic of the two of you . Thinking of you Lisa *lots of gentle cyber hugs* xoxoxo
  20. Yeah I agree ! :) Miah is now just over 4 months, she knows to go outside to do her wee's and poos, and does, but shes still having the odd accident inside. They are still young and learning. You just got to keep at it with them and reward them when they do the right thing. Some learn quicker than others, but its just patience and consistency :) All the best with your new puppy :)
  21. I was prewarned when I took our Miah to the vets for her vaccinations that if they asked what Im feeing her, that they would most likely be against raw feeding too (not necessarily meaning our vets in particular, but in general) Luckily our vet didn't say much at all, of course they try to promote dry food in their puppy starter kit (but thats not necessarily their own opinion, but those of the companies that put them together). All he said was becareful not to overdo the calcium side of things. He didn't explain why tho, and we didn't ask him. We are going by her breeder's guideline and advice, she has always fed her Cavaliers raw and natural and they all looked healthy to me :) Ironcally how our vet said to becareful not to give too much calcium in her diet, another fb friend of mine took her Cav puppy to the vet and she told them she is giving her puppy a natural and raw diet, and her vet said that it would be a good idea to give it some calcium supplements ! (opposite to what mine said lol) I have never done the complete raw diet in the past, but I'm feeling pretty confident with going by Miah's breeder advice in regards to her diet. So far so good, Miah is now just over 4 months old, and at her last vet check ( a week ago), the vet said shes in top condition :) Zooninthecity, Did your puppy's breeder give you feeding instructions?? there are many threads in this section of this forum with advice about raw feeding :)
  22. Great news all things considering Lisa :) x
  23.
