Thank you Lisa :) The SA Cavalier Club put on 2 fun days a year for us pet owners of Cavaliers to get together to have fun and act like we are in a real show. They have proper judges for it (well one for each fun day). Of course we are all amateurs, but its mostly about having fun for the day :) They have different categories and some fun games events too. and you get to win real ribbons and if you get first you usually get a bag of dry food. All other placings get a goodie bag :) We got a ribbon of course ! -

Thank you Simply Grand ! Thank you Pers ! -
I have to do a bit of gloat We went to the SA Cavalier fun day today, and I entered Miah in the Best Puppy under 12 months. Miah worked very well. I had expected her to be silly as she was very distracted by all what was going on lol but she very well behaved in the ring. There were quite a few puppys in her class, probably about 12 I think. I can't quite remember atm. She got lots of praise about her beautiful and lively fun temperament These fun days are fantastic for getting us out and meeting other Cavalier owners/breeders and people interested in finding out more about the breed. My 8 year old Niece entered Joey in a couple events too, but he didn't get any placings (has in the past) . (There were heaps of Cavaliers in each event!) We took Renae, but she hasn't been too well, so she mostly hung out in her crate, but she got lots of cuddles and a walk around the area by her breeder :) Heres just one pic from today. I have other ones but they still need editing. ;-) PS I forget to mention she came 2nd !

Waiting For A Puppy This Thread Is For You
julesluvscavs replied to jess live die's topic in Puppy Chat
Hi Melina, I dont know anything about the RSPCA ones.. It was just easy for us to go to our local vet one. It only went for 5 weeks (one night a week) Some areas have dog obedience clubs which also have puppy classes, and these days there are also private instructors who run puppy/dog training courses, altho they can be more exxy than obedience clubs. Your puppy will need to have had initial vaccinations :) -

Breeder Unhappy With My Questions
julesluvscavs replied to ziggyboy's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hi and welcome to Dol :) When we were looking for breeder and a future puppy, I really didn't know how much they were being sold for these days. We bought one of our years ago, and the breeder also gave us down the track, the Mother of the one we bought. We were on the lookout at the time, and didn't really know how much they were worth. When we came across Joey at a show, he was up for sale to the right person/people. The breeder chose us, and we only found out then how much he would be. We had been saving for a while, so without any question, as we had fallen in love with him, we agreed to the price and was content with paying what she was asking :) With our new puppy, we never once asked how much she would be, that came up a lot later when we knew we would be defiantly getting her. We knew puppy prices had gone up over the years, and we were expecting it could be fairly high ( we had waiting a long time for one, so had saved for ages). We had many conversations via emails over this time and had met the breeder at past club fun days. Some breeders like ours wont even take a deposit for various reasons , and we totally understood them. And our breeders of our Cavs always want to meet the potential owners of their pups/dogs well before any point of sale. However not every breeders feels/does the same. I know we wen't first time dog buyers, but it was our first time buying a puppy. I wouldn't have cared what money was being asked ( well long as we could afford it of course), but the main concern wasn't with price comparisons, but the quality of the pup (and a couple other factors) and in our case the ongoing support with its breeder :) They should be as choosy, as we are about them too IMO :) Ps we had our puppy delivered to us at 10 weeks, we just had to get her second vaccination done. -

Be prepared you might have to keep following them up. ;-) The Breeder we got Miah through was exceptional with communication the whole way through , but they not all like that. Hopefully you get some responses soon :) But also be prepared if you find a good breeder, you might have to go on a long waiting list also. -
Oh im so sorry to hear this Cassie *hugs* He was beautiful and very gentle. I had met him and I think we have some footage of him on a couple SA Dolers meet and greet you tube videos. RIP Zephyr x

This is from our SA Club website, but click on the links with the different boxes (right down the bottom), you might find them helpful in finding out more about Cavaliers eg health issues (you should be aware about them as well) http://www.cavaliersa.com/ Theres also heaps of info in the 101 dog breeds section on dol about CKCS, which i'm sure you have read already. What we did when were first looking into them was contact the club and found out when some upcoming shows were going to be on. We went to one and spoke to the different breeders (when they weren't busy getting ready to go into the ring, or coming out) The rest is history :) Meet as many breeders as you are able too, as sometimes they might not breed their dogs often, or some just never get back to you. I was advised to not get your hopes up too high with just one breeder in case it doesn't pan out, and sometimes it doesn't for different reasons. I'm pretty sure there is a Cavalier Club in your state (they usually put on fun days too for cavalier owners or for people interested in finding out more about the breed) -

LOL Showdogs, some of them can be, one of ours is bad, but then so am I It helps to keep them at a healthy weight, as that can cut down or stop some cavs that are bad snorers. Its probably my problem too -

One of the reasons we trim under their paw pads, as we also do with one of our indoor cats is because we have tiled floors, and they can get a bit slippery for them to walk/play on if they not trimmed up -

Toilet Training An Older Dog
julesluvscavs replied to Cavstar's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hi We had a foster dog a while back that wasn't toilet trained properly, but she was a lot older. She was pretty good actually. Every time I put Joey and Renae out, she would follow, so she soon picked it up. It helps a lot if you have other dogs around that they can learn by example ;) Of course I would take her outside quite a few times as well, but she would smell where the Cavs had been, so that helped encourage her as well :) Im doing the same thing with Miah Ps i find that strange shes not toilet trained at her age! Especially since shes not even a rescue dog ;-) and yes lots of praise when she does go outside to do her no 1's and 2's :) -

I gave up trying years ago lol, they usually have YOU trained in the first 24 hours All the best with hearing back from the breeder. Sometimes theres a fairly long waiting list with some of them. And you may have to email/call them again if you don't hear back from them. We just got our 3rd one 'Miah' earlier this year -
