  1. Sorry to hear this has happened. Haven't heard about it with dogs, but a guy I know, it happened to one of his cats at the vets. Not sure what the outcome was as I haven't spoken to him for ages, but he was very upset about it ;(
  2. I've never owned a dog thats ever been fussy about what ever food i have given them, from my med size heeler x type dogs to our current 3 Cavaliers. Our cats on the other hand do get fussy which I find annoying and frustrating !
  3. The puppy kindy we went too at our local vets wasn't like that. We always had our puppies on leash except when we did some very basic confidence building exercises (which was done individually) It was all done in a very controlled environment. I'm personally glad i took Miah to them, and she loved it even tho she was the smallest puppy in her class among 4 other bigger breed puppies
  4. Happy 1st Birthday to you Tempeh Lovely pics. hugs and cavvy cuddles from Jules, Joey, Renae and Miah ooxox
  5. Yes thats what they suspected with Renae initially.. (toxin overload) Fingers crossed it was just a one off for Dex and it doesn't happen again. Glad to hear he is home and all good :)
  6. Oh really I didn't know that Mim! I have used plastic bowls heaps over the years for my pets and i cant recall them having any pimples. I will have to go and check now! ;-) I have also had stainless steel bowls over the years too. Miah has a cute little purple ceramic bowl that came with her,
  7. Ive got a few friends involved in it. Im not sure of everything they do, but they are pretty passionate. I do trust their intentions (my friends intentions). Im sure there may be a few negative aspects of it like most things that are supposed to be done with good intention but I don't know about that side of it. I do have a Oscars law sticker on the back of my car, one of my friends gave me, with a pic of a Cavalier. When people see it, they will just say to me are they people that try to help shut down puppy farms and Pets shops. I say yes, but if you want to know more then look it up on the website, or Ill get one of my friends to email them.. I can't comment on the whole of the organisation as I don't know the inside and outside of it. But it seems to have got a lot of mostly good publicity among the circles i hang out in.
  8. Yep our almost 11 year old Cavalier has been having them now for a while and weird trances. First the vets put it down to her body was having some sort of overload of toxins causing her liver to shut down and perhaps causing these other symptoms to happen. It started not long after we started a new flea treatment on her. The vets still dont know what is causing it, even tho her liver is ok now. Nothing was working to calm her episodes so I bought her some rufus and coco anxiety aid. weeks later I would say its helped her about 90 percent to how she had been :) The vet has said it could be neurological, but at her age, I don't want to put her through any extra stress with more tests than shes had already. Her head tremors usually only last a few seconds, and when shes having her mini type trances, they only last a few seconds as well. So far they never gotten out of hand, and usually if i pat her gently at the time, its enough to snap her out of them. With hers her head bobs up and down like shes going to go into a deep sleep but then she always snapped out of them. I was very scared about them when I first noticed her having them. I do believe its the beginning of the end for her, and ive have been told its not that uncommon in older dogs and in Cavs. Just reread your first post and your dog is still very young. Hope he will be ok and they can get to the bottom of it, or help make him more comfortable if its going be an ongoing problem.
  9. Oh poor thing Hes not unwell is he ? I have used a small dusting of baby powder on occasions on my cavs when they have had the occasional tummy upsets and been like that .. and have been smelly I use Aloveeen leave in Conditioner at such times too, its safe for puppies :)
  10. Our Miah isn't a puppy puppy anymore (shes 5 months old) but we have been washing her with Aloveeen shampoo but its not a regular thing. Shes only ever had one messy pooey bum since we got her. :)
  11. We didn't get Miah till she was 10 weeks old, she already had her first puppy vaccinations. Her breeder was very careful even with taking her pups to the vets for their first vaccinations ( even putting a towel down on the examination bench) I think the area they were from is known for parvo outbreaks, so even when we visited her , we had to put stuff on our shoes etc.. I know some people take their puppies out before second vaccinations, but we didn't.. we were very cautious. I think we did her second vaccinations at 12 weeks, then another booster one. I waited a couple weeks before i started puppy kindy with her. We are a bit funny with vaccinations, and only choose to do C3 at 12 weeks, it was our personal choice. C5 seems to be the most done one. As Krislin said speak to your vet about it, and also your puppies breeder, thats what they are for also, to give support and advice along the way (well the good ones do !) :) All the best with getting your puppy ! ps Miah kept herself occupied in the meantime playing with her toys, chewing boxes and running around. We also walked her for very short periods on her puppy leash around our backyard The time goes by very quickly . They sleep a lot at that stage too :)
  12. Sure is DiscoDobes !!! Its a first for me handling and preparing complete raw meals for Miah . The other 2 Cavs I have always fed cooked mince and veges and given dry food.(they have always had some raw bones tho)
  13. its times like this its hard when one is a vego Quoted by Rosetta (I stuffed up the quote sorry ) ''Mice? Not recommended  I would feed human grade mince not pet mince as it is too fatty. Nothing to add except your pup is gorgeous!'' I didnt even notice this when i read it earlier Rosetta
  14. Awww how exciting, i bet you can't wait for him to come and live with you! I was lucky Miah's breeder brought her up to us complete with a lot of things including her bedding, a weeks worth of food, puppy collar, toys, food bowl etc Cardboard boxes are fun for them to play in and wreak while they are puppies ;-) I think you have fairly well got everything covered ! Yeah i organised a name tag before she Miah arrived.
  15. DesertDobes about what turkey necks resemble . Ive never seen one, a raw turkey neck that is ;-)
  16. Hi and congrats on your new puppy Melinda ! :) We got a cavalier puppy last Feb and shes 5 months now I get my chicken and beef mince from the butchers.(i had been getting hearts from there too, but last lot I did get from supermarket) I have been giving mine chicken necks for a while now (not all the time), but i have to watch her very carefully with it. Im now focusing more on giving her cut up chicken frames instead. There have been many posts for and against chicken necks and other bones in here, so im sure others will come along with their advice/suggestion at some stage :) Miah has had no issues chewing anything ive given her yet, altho she takes longer with the cut up chicken frames which is probably more beneficial for her teeth anyway . I think human grade mince is ok altho less fatty, its more the preservatives you have to watch out for I believe.. *Im not an expert in this field, ive just been going by her breeders instructions (similar to what you are feeding yours), but doesn't include kibble.
  17. Sorry to hear of your loss of your JTR. It would be so heartbreaking We got a new gorgeous puppy in Feb , shes low shedding atm, but she won't be as she gets older ;-) Wishing you all the best with your search for your future new family member, and that you find one that is suited to your family and lifestyle :)
  18. Yes like us humans, dogs can suffer with reactions to all sorts of things as well.. If in doubt its always best ring the vets. One of our cavs had a weird reaction to a well known and used flea treatment. I did end up calling the vets about it, and they said to bring him straight down. They later told me 'some' dogs have died from it.. so it was a good thing I questioned the reaction and brought him down to them. The vet said its possible that different products can have a just one off reaction and never again, so depending on the severity of the reaction to either try it one more time, or never again.
  19. it may well do with that product, im not sure. I think theres been previous threads about this (well more about teeth cleaning/plague removers) and a suggestion was made in one of them about a scraper tool that one of the members sells on here for assisting with plague removal . We have our own scraper thing we use. on our Cav's teeth ;)
  20. I don't know for that particular product, but we have been using something else that does the same thing. We have found we have had to scrape the tartar off that its soften. It comes off easier enough. But in our situation it is something we have to keep doing quite regularly :)
  21. We have a few different ones, but our fav one is Aloveen, and then the leave in conditioner. Smells so yummy and its good for dogs with skin issues :)
  22. she has posted in here, go back some pages. I asked her and she answered :)
  23. our local council are good, they try their best to locate owners around here, even if its AH's. Would you be able to get him to the vets to check if he's microchipped at all? council can do that too. Heaps of dogs arn't around here tho, but usually via facebooking, someone will usually know where the dog belongs unless its been dumped. Sorry i can't help you with the legalities of it all, poor dog. Thanks for looking after him in the meantime as hard as it is..
