  1. Its all part of the journey of owning a puppy and having dogs. Hopefully it will pass and all this will be a distant memory. Ive never had a puppy before so its been a huge learning curve for me, and still is ! :)
  2. its like us humans, we cant expect to like everyone straightaway if we are put into a house/situation together. Sometimes we are going hit it off instantly and sometimes it takes a long time, and sometimes never lol Be aware of the situation but don't make a huge fuss either imo When Joey used to growl at Miah in the beginning, i would automatically go to tell him off, and my husband would say no let him, he needs to let her know his boundaries . and she needs to learn also. Of course we watched over them closely. Im lucky im home most of the time to supervise, atho im now going out for a hour or 2 every so often and feeling confident they are will all be ok left together.
  3. We had a foster dog for a while last year and there was a bit of growling/snapping in the beginning. We didn't want to make too much of a fuss with it, as often with animals they need to work out their hirachy (sp?) . (within reason of course) What Pers and TSD has said is the wise thing to do.. they do all need their space too..
  4. I replied in the other thread where you asked me about how Renae and Joey were getting along with Miah :)
  5. Tango is lovely lovely! Sounds like hes heading on the right path it all takes time. The main thing is to keep it fun too at their ages :) Awwww how adorable !!! It is taking a while for Renae and Joey to fully accept Miah, and they still are. its only been about 3 months I think. Miah has been a Mother twice (many years ago now, Joey was from her 1st litter) but I think shes fairly well over it at her age now lol (shes almost 11) In the beginning both of them didn't really fuss over Miah as much as I thought they would have. Miah is a very confident outgoing type of puppy whose just come barging into their lives lol I did have to give the other 2 space from her sometimes in the beginning as she was pretty full on with them. Renae's also had health issues, so hasn't been herself of late, and doesn't need a young active puppy climbing all over her all the time. With Joey, I compare it to like being a person in a workplace thats been there forever, and that person has been trying their best to get to the top and get the promotion, but then comes in a young in your face whipper snapper and takes completely over (have had that happen to me in the past too! ) and Joey being the sensitive new age cavalier he is, has had his nose out of joint He has growled at her on some occassions, but she thinks hes a joke lol However when Renae tells Miah off, Miah takes notice ! They all getting along much better now, and often when Miah goes outside, Joey wants to follow her. Hes just taking a bit too much interest of her over the last couple weeks Shes getting desexed end of this month. I do feed them all separately as Renae has started getting possessive over food since she got ill.. she never was before. so its just bed to feed them all in their own space. I always feed them first. Im hoping when the time comes Miah will be of comfort to Joey, as hes always been a huge part of his mum Renae's life.. Im happy with how they all getting along now :)
  6. We have 3 cavs, 2 fluffy cats and a bunny that comes inside at night , who sheds a fair bit MEH i wouldn't have it any different, Its always on our furniture, clothes etc . I try to keep the house reasonably clean and if I know we are getting visitors I try get rid of the worse of the hairballs and whirley whirleys,as not everyone appreciates that look Once i would have cared about being anal about the house , but at age of 47, life takes on a different priority for me these days . I suffer with allergies, more seasonal ones, but I can't say the pet fur has aggravated mine. Each to their own tho, luckily dogs come in all sort of sizes, colours and coat types
  7. Ive never had anything to do with Bull dogs, so have never head of this? can someone please explain what it means ? just curious now having read this post ;) Do you have to use real glue? Never mind just you tubed it? whats the reason for it?
  8. I think its made a little difference me not going on about it at her when shes doing it (as they say when you make a fuss they see it as you are rewarding their behaviour).. I do try to distract her with something else eg her toys or a little bit of training. Walking her hypes her up more with it. Cavs are generally very laid back, our older 2 are, they sleep mostly but shes still a puppy, and shes always been a very smart alert girl right from when we met her. They say it usually occurs in more high drive breeds of dogs. The only time ive seen our Joey like this is when there have been mice around, not at any other time. Im doing my best to get onto it, but dont want to get too paranoid either about it, not just atm anyway.. LOL about Flynn chewing ! I give Miah things to chew on too (allowable things eg raw hide sticks), which helps also :)
  9. I think Cavaliers generally make good pets for parents with young children, depending on how well behaved the toddler/s are ;-) I think its been mentioned on dol a few times that when kids get excited, puppies often react and that can sometimes cause some problems.. I was at a Cavalier fun day recently and had Miah in a crate for a short time, and some Mother came over with her young child and leant over and grabbed Miah and gave her to her daughter to hold. The biggest problem is that even at 5 months old Miah is a very wriggly puppy, and even we have to hold her firmly if we pick her up, and i had an instant panic moment the kid would drop her ! I went over and nicely took Miah off her, but you can see how easily a puppy could get injured
  10. Shes going through a bit of an obsessive stage with chasing shadows/lights etc. I did a search in here and it says it can be from a couple different things. And there was some ideas of what to do in threads that people had posted ages ago.. I also did some googling about it, and it says not to make a big fuss at the time, which i have been doing. People suggested giving them more mental stimulation, which im working on. Hopefully it will pass on its own... sometimes puppys go through different phases too (like children do). She has a very active mind so its not surprising shes going through this atm.. however shes not doing lots of other naughty things that puppies do that i read about often in here, but it is something i am working on correcting asap :)
  11. LOL i can see what you mean ! still very cute :) I havent done a lot of training with Miah of late, just some very basic things around the house. Once she gets desexed and has healed, i will take her somewhere to do some more proper training. I think shes going need a lot of mental stimulation, as shes a bit too smart and gets bored very easily. She goes on short walks now but it just hypes her up more ! lol
  12. Hes sure grown quickly ! Miah is still quite small in comparison! altho shes quite leggy atm, hasn't really filled out heaps yet I'll go find a latest one of Miah altho theres a few new pics in her blog :) http://julesluvscavs.blogspot.com.au/
  13. Oh you edited it after i did my post, oops 5 Months! Miah will be 6 months end of this month:) Awww Flynn sounds just adorable
  14. yeah I know Sujo !! That pic is just way to cuteeeeeeeeeee , so how is the little one errr big one compared to Miah going?? Everything has been going great with Miah, altho shes started this new thing im not too impressed with. Im trying to nip it in the bud, I really hope its just a phase shes going through !!! She is getting desexed 31st of this month .
  15. the first thread i found is an old one , the poster since passed away http://www.dolforums..._1#entry4318079 i'm in Goolwa we have limited choices of vets here
  16. i used it on a cat that was rehomed to us a few years ago. I probably gave him too much I dont think it helped that much tbh, Im using this successfully for our older cav (but for different issues) it might be worth trying. Perhaps check first it wont clash with any health issues if your dog has any,
  17. Im not a breeder so cant advise you sorry on all the technical side of this, but there have been posts about this subject in the general section of Dol. I think very early desexing can lead to growth and developmental problems? and I think especially in the larger breeds, not so much the toy breeds, altho its still not recommended. In my contract ( well paperwork sounds nicer) the breeder has requested Miah be desexed from around 6 months if I remember right. Which is will be end of this month. Shes already booked in :)
  18. Hi Leela and Pj :) Personally we have never locked up our puppy. In the actual beginning, we did have her in a large pen with her bed set up just outside of our room, so she could see us still (in the laundry room which is open planned) We would let her out several times a night so she could do a wee'/poo. We also got up very early to let her do her morning wee, have a bit of play in the loungeroom with her toys, then put her back in her pen for another hour or 2 Eventually as we allow it she was allowed on our bed. We do have baby gates set up to seperate her from some rooms, especially the kitchen if im preparing meals. Which I still use, even now shes 5 months old. She goes outside when our other cavs go outside but comes back in when they do. I dont work so its easy to supervise them all day :) I have put her in a crate a few times when needed but only for very short periods.
  19. Any updates Ziggyboy ? Another post i was reading reminded me about yours, so thought id come back and ask ;)
  20. Gosh mine is now 5 months and still eating excitedly her small lunch. Im about to start weaning her off it totally over the next few weeks. She wont be happy about that I don't have any advice to offer sorry, but others will im sure. Not good if he's underweight. Miah is thinnish, but within the right weight for her age and size and breed :)
  21. This is a collar and leash set I bought for Miah recently. As you can see it doesn't quite fit her properly yet lol She will grow into it. The photo of it doesn't do it any real justice, as you cant see the little bones on it. The company gave me the cute little love heart collar charm too, altho she has her own cute ID tag I will be using with it.. Check out on that same blog post, the handbag poo holder bag I bought recently for her too for special occasions http://julesluvscavs.blogspot.com.au/
