Hi My first dog as a child was a black poodle x terrier called Abby (My Parents brought her for me from the Animal Welfare League here in SA) I had her for many years I also grew up with German Shepherd dogs as my Parents were registered GSD Breeders back then

Hi, They are a lovely looking dog. I don't know anything about them. Maybe also look in this thread for more info.(Dog Breeds 101) Most puppies are now quite expensive i have observed, so I would think they would need to allow about the amount you think they might be or even more.

Hi. I'm sorry about your loss, its tragic when they go so suddenly and at such a young age My Husband and I have gone through so much heartache over the last so many years. Our (Renae) lived to a reasonable age but got liver cancer. We lost her son Joey earlier, at only 9 because of a tumour also (different type) we were very good friends with their breeder. In fact she gave us Renae once she finished showing and breeding her. We also lost Her (Our Breeder Friend) suddenly a few years ago as well. Ive never gotten over that either. Then we went on a list to get the Cavalier of my dreams (id never had a puppy before and I wanted a Tri colour one, Joey we bought when he was about 15 months). Sadly we lost her (Miah) just over 2 and half months ago, suddenly and unexpectedly to a raptured spleen tumour ( we did not know about it until the day she was dying) She was only 7 We are gutted and just exhausted over all the heartbreak our beautiful dogs have given us but don't regret the time we have had with each of them. They were all so special and perfect to us. We still have a 11 or 12 year old male Cav which was rehomed to us about 5 years ago. We are pretty sure he was a backyard bred one. Hes been reasonably healthy. Hes just started getting cloudy eyes so we took him to a Animal Eye Specialist. He's not going blind, its an age related progression thing. Its not uncommon. Naturally his eyes wont be as sharp as they once was. He was very bonded with our last Cav, Miah.. they were inseparable and hes going ok now but had been missing her a lot. Its sad to watch. We have said we won't ever get another dog, its too hard and painful especially now we are getting older. We have an almost 18 year old cat that is slowing down a lot now (she was our very first pet and shes outlived most of our other pets!) We have a 11 year old Ragdoll cat that was rehomed to us also. But over last couple of weeks i have been in a very dark hole and am missing Miah's huge personality and spark and i really need /want to find something not to replace her but to fill our house with love again... Ive been looking at lots of rescue groups for any type of small dog but theres been nothing in SA, only bigger type dogs. We have a lot of love to give. We have also started putting our name down with a couple of breeders but theres a long list of people already waiting. If Fate decides we should have another dog and we wouldn't say no to another Cav despite all our heartaches, then we will leave it in the laps of the Gods, as its said. Currently because of the Covid 19, its been harder to find dogs, rescues or purebreds, here in South Australia anyway. I think its lovely that your breeder has offered you another one, that is really nice. They sound genuine. I would give it some definite thought. You have to always think with your head with any decisions but go with your heart and gut also (which is what i generally do!) I wish you all the best whatever you do. Its tough thinking about it when grieving still. I get that Ps I have found there are no guarantees in life with any animal or Human, even healthy ones. Sometimes you just get a run of bad luck and stuff happens, it doesn't mean it will happen again.. Its the chance we all take in life.

Rescue dogs in SA
julesluvscavs replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Hi and Thankyou HMD Ive been checking quite a few other SA rescue sites and the one you have put up a link to but most have nothing available atm or just bigger dogs I have been in touch with a couple of places but they said it will be hard finding a small dog and one that will be ok living with another dog and 2 cats and one that doesn't have health issues. Least they were honest to me. I'm not expecting a perfect dog but i don't think i want to go putting myself through too many health issues having just just come out of all that. I will at some stage contact some breeders in SA if they have any ex show dogs they are wanting to rehome. That's how we ended up with one of our past Cavaliers (Renae) Hows yours small dog going? Lonsdale RSPCA doesn't have any small dogs atm that i am aware of but i will keep checking. Im sure the right one will turn up when the time is right -
Rescue dogs in SA
julesluvscavs replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Awwww thankyou Pers! <3 Many have said to us over the years the same thing, We were lucky to become closefriends of breeders back in the day. One of them passed away years ago I'm open to a SWF type dog long as its not nippy.. i have met some that aren't.. I can see myself now as i'm getting older with one. Michaels not too keen on JR's or similar breeds, we think they'd be too active for us . We are open to what may be out there... Im sure one will come into our lives when the time is right <3 x -
Hi All I'm only just putting my feelers out there... My husband and i have owned Cavaliers for many years, all but one have come from registered breeders. We lost our little sweet 7 year old girl a couple of months ago, very suddenly. She was on borrowed time anyway with health issues but they aren't what took her. ( A Ruptured Spleen tumour did) We still have our older male Cav that was rehomed to us quite a few years ago. Hes been healthy but starting to get older and his eyes are becoming cloudy (we are about to get them checked out on Friday) Anyway its all probably too soon to start adding another dog to our family (we have always had 2 or 3 dogs at a time) but im deeply missing the energy and spark that Miah surrounded us with. Its just seems too quiet and i'm pining lots. Toby is fantastic but hes bit too quiet, which isn't a bad thing. I think hes fretting also as they were best friends. He often stands on her memorial area Anyway so we have very briefly talked about what next.. As much as we love Cavaliers, we aren't keen to go down the track of getting another one (unless fate decides otherwise) I've been looking on the local South Australia rescue sites and there's not many dogs available (currently) which i take that as a good thing?? The ones that are are too big or strong for us. Ive put down our profile on Pet rescue that we are looking for a small easy going dog thats not too strong to walk (i have bursitis in my shoulder now) and will get along with Toby (hes very easy going) and we have 2 indoor cats (not active ones) We aren't keen to do down the interstate adoptions at this stage. Ive looked on DOL breeder listings for rescue dogs or older dogs Breeders might be rehoming but nothing comes up for SA that ive noticed yet. So basically if anyone comes across a small dog that might be suitable in SA (well not too far drive away like Port Augusta, more Adelaide or surrounding Southern areas) could you please let me know. We live in Goolwa. Im not keen to take on anything with too many current health issues as we have just been through all that and don't need any more heartache. Id be happy to chat more about the details privately if anyone has any contacts. We have a lot of love to give in our Home Thankyou.

Hi, i have owned Cavaliers for a long time, quite a few. Always has been my fav breed, and always will be. We only have one now, which we adopted quite a few years ago. We don't think he is a pure bred one (all our past ones have been from registered breeders). Our previous precious girl- Miah (the tri in my profile pic) was everything to me. She only lived to 7 years. We did buy her from an Ethical breeder. She unfortunately developed some serious health condition in her short life that required lots of meds, vet bills and lots of 24/7 care. She ironically passed away from something different, a ruptured spleen tumour which came out of nowhere. We had no choice but to give her her wings. This was about 10 weeks ago, so im still badly grieving. I think its really important you always research any breed their genetic health issues that they can be predisposed to, regardless how fantastic a breeder is. Sometimes they cant stop the issues even if their dogs have all been healthy in their lines . Our breeder stuck by us the whole time (and has been shocked and heartbroken by what happened), so i don't regret having our our girl come into our lives, theres were lots of good times too.. There is never any guarantees with anything in life.. but do your homework thoroughly first. Cavs do have a list of health issues and major ones at that. Our Cavs have loved living inside but loved going for walks, they shed hair heaps (we never clipped ours) but they have all just been so loveable and perfect in our eyes I met a toy poodle the other day that seemed to take to me, was extremely friendly. And seemed to be like a Cavalier in nature, well this one was. I have no idea of their health conditions etc It did make me think what it would be like to own one There is a thread dedicated to all breeds of dogs on DOL called Dog Breeds 101 All the best ps Some Cavaliers can get very vocal ;-)

Marking territory inside, suggestions???
julesluvscavs replied to Rascalmyshadow's topic in General Dog Discussion
One of our Cavaliers was rehomed to us a few years ago and he has this problem. He is a wonderful dog in every way except for him marking inside. We suspect it was because he used to sleep in a shed at night Its really annoying. Luckily we have tiles throughout our house so we can clean it up easily, thank god ! We can put him outside and he will wee outside but he still has it saved up for inside. (its not more than once at a time and not every day) We have used all sorts of cleaning products to see if he will avoid peeing in certain areas but that hasn't worked either. Some days/nights are worse than others. We don't feel its stress related, more territorial. I have never had this kind of problem with any of my previous or current dogs! It does get on things sometimes so we have to be aware not to leave anything laying around. Over the time we have had him we have tried so many different things to stop him but so far no success.. Hes been checked out by vet so its nothing medically. Otherwise he's a perfect dog in every way. Has the best temperament. He's desexed. I think hes aware he shouldn't be doing it, you can tell he looks upset if you are firm with him when its happened but he still keeps doing it -
Thats what is going through my mind.
-
Miah (who is now 4) growls if she wants to let us know she needs to go outside or if theres a doggy biscuit/treat stuck under something but she developed that later not as a puppy.

No its not Did the breeder give you any advice about it ?

Thankyou Kirslin:) My husband might have some bigger pics on his computer, i will ask him otherwise I will take a pic of it over the weekend to show you

Beautiful ! A group of my Cavalier friends kindly gave my husband and i some money to get one done of our Renae (after she passed away) The lady who does them lives in Japan and specialises in Cavaliers ones. I didn't think about it but i wish i had sent her some of Renae's fur to use when she was making it (as i kept some after) We have Renaes collar with her name tag hanging over the neck of her felt likeness ;) We wanted it modeled on Renae in her elderly years with her 'smile'

Brain Tumour/ Meningitis Or Something Else
julesluvscavs replied to teekay's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thinking of you and Mya... It does sound very similar to how our Joey went.. He had only just turned 9. Came completely out of the blue . Will be positive for you both that its something that can be treated x -
Purchased Dog But Previous Owner Wants Back?
julesluvscavs replied to Remidog's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hi T, I normally agree with you- but not this time. I wouldn't offer play dates. I think it just prolongs the hurt for the relinquishing family. A clean final 'break' I think is kinder for them and the dog. I agree. -
Purchased Dog But Previous Owner Wants Back?
julesluvscavs replied to Remidog's topic in General Dog Discussion
No real advice but we were rehomed a dog a couple years ago. The person who was rehoming him was ill at the time and couldn't look after him properly. We went to great lengths to make sure she wouldn't regret her decision especially if got better in the future. We didn't actually take him for a couple of months and in that time we went to this persons place and she came to ours. We offered to foster him as an option. Anyway once we knew for sure she had thought about it for ages and knew she had choices if she had wanted to go down that path, we took him. She changed the microchip details over to us within a couple of days. We are friends with her on fb and shes better now and she has mentioned a few times how she misses him badly but knew she had done the right thing. Least there were no children involved. Its a hard thing on both parties ! Hope something is able to be worked out. Ps in our situation there was no money exchanged. In fact she got him vet checked and vaccinated before she gave him to us :) -
My heart goes out for you x

How Good Is Your Dog's Internal Clock?
julesluvscavs replied to Roova's topic in General Dog Discussion
Our 2 are scally wags in the morning, they carry on for breaky from 4am these days grrrr. Sometimes we give in and sometimes we don't. Renae used to be really bad and i think she's passed on those traits to Miah now! I do make them wait for tea which is around 5pm, which is easier now than when Renae was around as she would get very demanding from 3pm (but then she wasn't well either) We recently dog sat 2 Cavaliers for almost 2 weeks and it was really hard to stop them getting into a habit of having their breaky early like ours because their owner doesn't feed them until later in the morning. But you can't do two separate routines when you are looking after someone elses dogs especially if they are all indoor ones ! -
Hi Tint :) I have been a CKCS owner for many years now. Have owned 4. Currently we have 2 (Recently gave our eldest one 'Renae' her wings) Everything about them is beautiful but i am biased as i love this breed passionately. Like people, Cavaliers all have their different personalities and quirks and levels of motivation. I have mostly wanted them to be a companion easy going dog (as i have chronic health issues) , Our current two Cavaliers if I had good health I would have loved to have done dog obedience/agility with them as they are quite active and have been very easy to train. We do have a big back yard and they still get enough physical and mental stimulation. Our current 2 Cavs have complete different temperaments to our last two :) I have known many Cavaliers that compete successfully in obedience/agility and other dog sports. All ours have come from registered and ethical breeders except one of our current Cavaliers 'Toby' as he was rehomed to us from a friend of a friend. I suspect he was bred by a BYB but touch wood he hasn't had any health issues yet and he has a brilliant temperament. I still strongly advocate researching the breed and making sure you try to find a registered and ethical breeder. Always try to meet the breeder's dogs if possible. Make sure they do all the appropriate health tests. This does not guarantee you will give a Cav without any future health issues (no dog can be guaranteed that) but it still better to try to find a healthy line as possible to lessen the risks. Most are wonderful family dogs. Our last 2 cavs weren't overly friendly with kids as my husband and I don't have children so they didn't have that environment but most i know are fantastic around children. Our current 2 nothing seems to faze them. They are virtually bombproof with everything! :) Re losing hair. We have always had hairy clothes and hairy furniture with all ours but then i have owned dogs for most of my life and its just the norm for me lol They do tend to collect stick and prickles easily, just sticks to them! You can trim them and brush them to keep it down. Some people get them clipped all over but we have never done that as they have a coat for a reason but each to their own. Our Toby has a fairly short coat for a Cav so he's been the easiest one we have owned to groom and not leave as much hair around on everything. Re snout length. Both our last 2 had short snouts (it was how their lines were bred) One of them did have fair bit of issues with snorting (reverse sneezing) but was mostly manageable. Our current 2 have longer snouts. I believe the original Cavaliers years ago had longer snouts. We have had mostly Blenheims colour Cavaliers but Miah is my first Tri colour Cavalier. I had wanted one in that colour for years . Its often said the different colours have different personalities. I had been told the Tris are very mischievous and in my own experience they are lol but in a good way ! :) They are supposed to be outgoing and not fearful but there's a always some that aren't and can be bit on the timid side. And theres a reason they call them Love Sponges ! We belong to the Cavalier Club of South Australia and they put on 2 fun days a year for us pet owners and its a great way to meet other owners and breeders in an informal way. Its how we met Miah's breeder (our youngest one) :) All the best with getting your dog of your dreams, which ever breed you end up settling on . Miah, Toby and Renae Our current 2 Toby and Miah Joey which was Renae's son. Unfortunaly he only made it to 9 years old as he developed an aggressive brain tumour (which could have happened to any breed of dog) Ps There's also a 101 breed subforum on DOL you can check out too for different breeds. this is the link to the Cavalier one http://www.dolforums...harles-spaniel/

Thank you. It still feels raw and heartbreaking and surreal. You would relate to that feeling *gentle hugs*x Yes. I won't look often. Oh so sad that another stalwart DOLer dog has left us. She was a Good Dog. Thank you Katdogs. She was such a huge part of our family for years, feels just surreal at times. I just want her to come back so i can give her one more cuddle I have a bit of her hair and I smell it every so often so i can feel her near me x
