  1. Thank you Westiemum. sorry to hear of the passing of your friend's dogs last week too I read of another Cav passing away last week also. Thats the thing Joey was still heart clear at 9 years of age! then something else crops up with our beloved furbabies that takes us completely by surprise Id like to think Joey is watching over us now :) x It is, cant wait now for my friend to get us it ! Thank you Cassie :) x Doing the best we can atm CHA.. Im trying too. Im bit worried about Joey's Mum, shes missing him a fair bit now. Thank you for your kind thoughts x Awww thank you Baronia, it is a lovely rose by the looks of the pics (my friend is yet to pick one up for us), and appropriate colouring too in memory of Joey. Seems Just Joey is very well liked all over the place ;-)
  2. Thank you Rach, and thank you for the PM, will reply bit later (have since replied) x
  3. Wow some really beautiful photos in here Congrats to all of you who have now got your puppies yayyyy !! I hope you are having lots of fun with them. I haven't had much of a chance to have a good catch up in this thread of late as hubby and I have had a really terrible few months, first with losing my husband's Mother to cancer, then recently having to give our Joey Cavalier his wings I don't want to put a downer in here about him but if you want to read more then I have done a post in the rainbow bridge section, and its also in the health and grooming section of dol Miah is now 10 months old and doing very well. Shes a very happy go lucky kind of gal, very confident, friendly and outgoing . Nothing seems to faze her *touch wood* We are hoping to start her at a dog school soon... she needs it as shes very excitable and needs lots of stimulation, physically and mentally! We did buy her a dog board game (nina ottosson) recently to help her to focus some of her energy into :) Today we took her to the beach so we could all get out of the house a bit as our older dog Renae is fretting (Joey was her son). Miah loved it so much, and wasn't at all nervous about getting her paws wet lol There was a whale further out, luckily we didn't let her off her leash as im sure she would have wanted to swim out to it Anyway heres a short 26 second video of her, my husband didn't capture the last bit on his mobile video where they were swamped by the little wave coming in lol love and cuddles to all your puppies/young dogs x
  4. Hi . We live in a semi rural coastal area but theres still plenty of places around here to take our young one out and about eg markets, cafes, beach etc We only got our puppy at 10 weeks, but the breeder had socialized her prior with some of her friends coming to visit . Plus the breeder also had cats and other Cavs and another breed of dog ;) We didn't take her out until she had her second vaccinations but luckily after we did have a couple places nearby that do puppy kindy, so we took her for some very basic training and socialization. Miah is now about 10 months old and very friendly around people and other dogs and hasn't shown any fear of anything at all *touch wood* ;)
  5. Thank you shekhina x Thank you staffyluv, you have been through it too.. its painful isn't it x Thank you madredeperros, i couldn't remember who you were, had a quick look on your profile to check He was a gorgeous little man His Mum Renae has been fretting a bit, poor old girl. We took her out for a drive today with young Miah for us all to get out of the house for a while x
  6. Thank you Coogie :) Another one from 2 years ago, helping me celebrate my 45th birthday. (he's the one on the left)
  7. Thank you Everyone, still so hard to believe he's gone Joey's the one on the right hand side with our bunny Pepsi. His Mother Renae is on the left hand side. no its not fair dogmad
  8. Thank you Tintin Jac and Schnauzer , He did mean the world to us I meant to put this pic up in the first post.. It wasn't taken that long ago when Michael had taken him for a walk up the look out near where we live :)
  9. I want to say so much about our beautiful gentle Joey, but its still very raw and it hurts me too much. You can read more about what happened here if you haven't already. Thank you to Everyone who has passed on their condolences to my husband and I already in that thread. Its certainly something we hadn't expected., and I thought I would be doing this post for his 11 year old Mother 'Renae' first.. He had only just turned 9 last May. He was actually born the same year my husband and I were married, but earlier on, 2004 He had the sweetest, most well mannered nature and everyone who had met him said that about him and loved him. There was always a very special presence about him. He was very a tuned in dog with a lot of things as most people will know from my past posts about him. Just over 2 weeks ago my mother in law passed away and around the same time she had (unbeknown to us at the time) He jumped up and started making strange noises.. We found out early next morning it was around same time she passed away around 3.30am. I do recall looking at my clock at that time because he had woken me/us up! It was fate he came into our lives many years ago. We had started looking around for Cavalier puppies (I had wanted a Tri Colour one) and we went looking at a dog show with intentions of talking to some breeders and expressing our interest for a puppy. There was one breeder who did have a Tri colour puppy available for us to look the following week at.. As we were about to leave the show grounds , a breeder we had talked too recommended we that we should go meet and have a chat with this other breeder there. So we did. She didn't have any upcoming litters planned at that stage, but did have a young Blenheim Male Cavalier 'Joey' up for sale to the right people, and he was there with her. He had been shown a few times but wasn't showing much interest in it.. Well it was love at first sight, he was gorgeous. I think he was about 14 months at the time (cant remember clearly atm). She had other people that had expressed an interest in him but shes very fussy and hadn't been keen on any of them. Joey took to us straightaway, and we played with him for a while. She said she would have a think on it and get back to us that night. We really were hoping she would, and she did ! It was a couple weeks later we went and got him. We had another dog at the time 'Jenna' which some dolers will remember. She was a Kelpie x red heeler and they became the best of friends. Unfortunately a few years down the track Jenna developed cancer and had to be given her wings Months later Joey's breeder rehomed us his Mother 'Renae' and they have been a huge part of each other lives ever since.. until now We were fortunate enough that we were able to get the vet to come to our place and give Joey his wings here in his home. Renae had a chance to say her goodbyes before and after. Joey is now buried under our trinket love tree. A friend is buying us a rose bush called Just Joey .. Its an Apricot colour. Joey was a Blenheim colour cavalier, so very appropriate. His registered name was Rivarose Just As I Am 'Joey'. I'll post a pic later when i get it and plant it in his little special area. Its a very heartbreaking time as I'm sure most of you would have experienced in your lives with your own furbabies.. I just want him back in my arms Even in his last few hours He still wagged his little tail at me.. My husband is taking it very very hard as he had just lost his Mother not long ago and now Joey. Joey and my husband had a very special bond between them. My husband took him for many walks and drives in our 'big red car' as Joey knew our car as .. Our Cavaliers have always been a huge part of our every day lives. I had often thought the reason young Miah has come into our lives is because of Renae leaving us soon ..(Renae had been quite ill at one stage) little did we know it was probably because of Joey leaving us ! Miah was also born on our 8th Wedding Anniversary last November and will be a 1 year old on our 9th one this Nov..Her litter mates were born about a week earlier than their due date , I think she came into our lives at the time she did for a reason, a beautiful and precious one at that. I've got millions of photos of him to treasure forever..
  10. I'll try to put up more pics of Miah later. Shes got a beautiful outgoing confident temperament, very smart and very independent but super hyperactive lol I don't know much about roses, im hoping it will be hardy as i dont have a green thumb and our soil is horrible here. I did read via google its supposed to be heat and disease resistant.. hope so ! :)
  11. Thank you Everyone x Pers, Im going okish..i have times when i feel sort of ok than i have sudden outbursts of tears. And because hes buried here, I keep looking over at that area, and theres a part of me that wants to go dig him back out and pretend hes still alive and perfect still ! I think its been made difficult this was all so sudden. And of course I keep going through my mind and same with my husband.. was there something more we could have done (well apart from what we did do).. when we noticed little signs of him not being right a while back like him not wanting to jump up on the couch easily etc . We feel angry that one of the vets was so adamant it was just bad arthritis and only suggested the cartrophen injections,,. At the end of the day if he did have a brain/neck tumour as what was eventually suspected, the outcome would have been the same regardless.. especially if it had been an aggressive one. I still see his waggy tail and saying his goodbyes to me on the day. I also highly suspect that He may have passed away later that day or the next anyway as Renae was really nestling into him more than usual, and My Mum who had been staying for a few days said she went to pat him and he was quite cold ( she didnt tell me that till later) I remember asking the Universe to give me signs of when to give him his wings and i was upset because I couldnt really see them strongly, but now after I know there were signs, I just didn't want to acknowledge them.. He was such a happy go lucky kind of dog, and right to the end too.. Renae looks around for him often .. Ive been trying to distract her as much as i can.. Someone said they are going buy us a rose bush for Joey's memorial area. Its called Just Joey and its an apricot colour. His registered name was Just As I Am. Joey . I think thats a sign :) Miah has been a really good distraction for us.
  12. Thank you Kavik .. i have had many burst of emotions today (the day after) Thank you rajacadoo x

    Fear Period

I had read about this fear phase puppies/young dogs can go through and I was dreading going through it with my puppy (ive never owned a dog from a puppy stage before) and i'm yet to still experience with it with Miah. She will be a 1 year this Nov. If anything shes too confident for her own good sometimes. Maybe it will still happen, but so far nothing seems to faze her, We go out with her, she meets many dogs out and about all sizes, breeds and luckily so far hasn't had any negative experiences with them or anything for that matter. I have heard that some Cavaliers can be a bit skitish, but shes certainly not one of them. We even have a steam train around here (cockle train) and its very noisy, and even the first time we walked close by it, she didn't even react to it . She is always excited to go up to anyone, I did make sure i got her out and about as her as she had been vaccinated.
  14. Thank you Everyone for your thoughtful and lovely replies We are totally crushed by Joeys absence in our lives. His Mother Renae altho she got to say goodbye to Joey even after he was pts, shes still been going around looking for him I would never have thought he would go before her! My husband has taken it extra hard as he had a very special bond with Joey, and also lost his Mum only a couple weeks ago as well . I do believe young Miah came into our lives at the time she did for a reason ;)
  15. I'm too emotional to say much atm ... but thank you so much everyone for your lovely replies he was given his wings about 12,30 today at home surrounded by us all and despite him being quite out of it today, he still managed to look up and wag his tail quite a few times My husband buried him under our trinket love tree, but we will make it a bit nicer later. I think Renae his mother knew something was up this morning because she kept going into the crate with him and nuzzling into him , more than ive seen before.. Both her and Miah are ok, well Renae sleeps a lot lately anyway, but they have been very quiet since, even young Miahs been nestling into me .. I feel so gutted never really saw this coming, it happened very quickly, hes always been a very healthy boy, apart from his recent eye problem (from being scratched) and he was heart clear at 9 still :) He was always a fun joyful and easy going Cavalier to love and own,,
  16. We have the vet coming out soon .. we dont want him to suffer any longer.. he will be given his wing here at home with us.. My husband is on way home from work now thank you everyone for your continued support..
  17. Thank you everyone we have booked the vet and a nurse to come to our house at about 6ish atm hes in his crate, breathing bit on the fast side, but seems to be totally out of it.. Renae is in the crate with him snuggling up to him heaps.. i havent seen her do that over the last few days till today Im totally crushed I just cant believe how fast is all happening, who would have thought
  18. yes i agree Kirty, they said quite a few dogs respond within hours to it, but some up to 48 hours, which is what we have almost given it (by late today).. but enough is enough now...
  19. Thanks Jules, going need all I/We can get .. My hubby just brought our pet bunny in so Joey could have a lick of him.. Hes always loved the bunny.
