  1. well written kelpieccuddles ! I hadn't read all that initially, just looked at the pics. Hope your comment gets published !
  2. Some vets use private professional trainers, ours does;) Im glad we went
  3. Yeah Diva someone pointed out to me later about some of the comments on that link, sorry I was only looking at the art pics and was only wanting to share that aspect of it ;)
  4. Not sure if this has been posted already, cant see if it has. A friend posted it on my fb wall as he knows I love CKCS's but theres are breeds as well ;) http://theverybesttop10.com/2013/09/24/sculptures-made-of-bicycle-chains/
  5. We met our Joey and his breeder at a show when were there to check out some breeders and their dogs. He was up for sale to the right person/people. We didn't know that until that day tho. We obviously picked the best time to chat to the breeders. I had rung some up previously and they suggested it in the conversation to come and when the best times to have a chat with them. Some breed clubs put on fun days for pet dog owners of their breed and for people interested in pursuing that particular breed. Its a great way for people to meet breeders (that are associated with the club)in an informal relaxed environment. We belong to a Cavalier club here in SA ;)
  6. Ams I might implement some of your great ideas on Miah, thank you for sharing them. We have a Nina Ottosen training board but she does get bored of it after about 5 mins lol Shes only 10 months old tho ;-)
  7. Ewwww lol ! It doesn't help im a vegetarian.. the things we do for our dogs health and happiness ! ;-)
  8. Hi. What about raw hide sticks? I give my young Cavalier Miah them once a week without any issues so far *touch wood*.. She generally has chicken frames also. Chicken wings have been suggested in these type posts before.. I have given mine semi frozen chicken necks in the past and altho they have never choked on them, they have inhaled them and did used to worry me heaps !
  9. Malumum it sounds a lot like diabetes to me ! Sometimes it can take a few years of tests to show up positive in dogs and cats (I have read). I am a diabetic and when i was at my worse point of it i was always wanting to drink and wee all the time ! and i lost a lot of weight which i thought was a good thing but it was because i was so sick at the time,.. Hopefully the next lot of tests shows something so you can then go on to treat it..
  10. Hopefully its nothing too serious and can be fixed. If it doesn't improve you might need a referral to dog Neurologist.. All the best x
  11. Even tho we have Cavs and general public think its ok to just come up and start patting our dogs, we would prefer to be asked first, mostly because we have an old deaf Cav and sometimes shes not always approachable. In the past I have occasionally gone up to a strangers dog but I don't now without asking. We have started dog training school with young Miah and we tie a yellow ribbon around Renae's leash to let people know to give her space.. It was something the Trainer talked about on day one. When we are out and about Miah will want to excitedly go up to people/kids and other dogs, but I usually I ask if its ok for her to do so.
  12. Awww how gorgeous ! Happy 5th Birthday dear Maddie, hugs and cavvy cuddles from Renae , Miah and Me. Joey would be looking down from doggy heaven and wishing you a very Happy Birthday also and wishing he could have share some birthday pie with you too xoxoxo
  13. I really feel for you fieldsy63 its very heartbreaking to watch but like you said you can only make him as comfortable for the time they have before they lose all their quality of life . When i read your reply it even convinces me more our 11 year old has Cushings, altho not every symptom you wrote.. They said something about her gall bladder at the time, and she was some artificial bear bile meds for a while which did seem to help her for a while. She also was on high dose of AB's. I haven't taken her back for any more tests since.. shes ok for now.. well apart from the excessive hunger all the time and she does pant a fair bit, hate to think how shes going go when it get hotter than it is now! Thinking of you and thanks for sharing your story with us x
  14. I don't think you have to feel obligated to go puppy kindy with your puppy. I went with mine more just for socialization reasons. It was held over 5 weeks (one night a week) and we only had about 5 dogs in it i think from memory, they were different breeds/sizes/ages. I wanted Miah to get used to being around bigger dogs as well. We did do a fair bit in our classes, but the pups were all on leash except for some games we played, then it was done under very close supervision. We also let the dogs sniff,/have a bit of a play with each other. I must admit one bigger more playful type dog started getting bit rough with little Miah but i didnt want to overreact and put unnecessary fear into her. They were ok. They were all very well behaved just playful and silly as puppies are lol Its been months since we finished and now we have just started a 5 week basic course at a dog training school. Miah is now 10 months. Our class at this place consist also of only about 5 dogs, but all different sizes/breeds/ages. Theres strict guidelines in place about our time training there which all seem fair and sensible to me ;) I just found her blog post from puppy kindy http://julesluvscavs.blogspot.com.au/2013/03/miahs-first-puppy-kindy-session.html
  15. We often get crows ( they are called ravens here in SA despite one of our football teams being called the Crows) around our place. .They do horrible things especially to young lambs but cant say they have ever tried to pick up my rabbit altho my bunny is a chunky solid type and they were around when Miah was smaller but we usually supervise the dogs when they go outside. I did watch one grab a big raw bone from our rubbish bin once when the wind had blown the lid open .. We used to get quite a few hawks (i think thats what they were?) circling at our last place and they were more of a worry with our bunny (we lived close to a camel abattoir)
  16. I did a post ages ago in the health section asking the same thing but with another product. After comparing them all I ended up choosing Budget pet products. I have ordered through them twice now and have had no issues.
  17. Lots of Miah's toys atm and a pet bed. Joey and Renae used to go in it a lot together but now hes gone the other 2 rarely use it. We have been thinking about packing it up and just using if we need it for something at some stage. They always slept at night on our bed anyway, and Renae and Miah still do. oh and there used to be a small shadow box frame with a pic of my husband and i in it hanging on the inside of the crate ;)
  18. ewwhippy, we had been saving for Miah for ages as we had been lightly looking for a few years and had our name down on a breeder's list and had to wait a while. So we had the money by the time we were chosen by Miah's breeder to be her new forever home. Plus her breeder keeps her pups until they are at least 10 weeks which gave us some extra time to save some more for last min things .
  19. I think the reason we personally decided to set up one and not pay out for pet Insurance was because most of the ones we looked into had so many exclusions (and fine print conditions).. so we figured we might as well just put x amount away instead. Obviously sometimes there huge vet bills that exceed what we have put away, but our vet will let us work out payment plans out with them as a last option (since we have been going to them for a very long time) and I also now have an emergency credit card which i rarely touch but its good to know its there should we need it.
  20. Even tho my 10 month old is going through the teenager stage or i refer to it as the toddler stage and is active in so many ways but thankfully she hasn't really chewed up a lot of things or gone feral in any way, not yet anyway *touch wood* lol Ive read all the puppy horror stories . Shes a puppy still and does silly puppy things of course ;-)
  21. Probably not in our case, theirs probably has had more in it than ours !
  22. We started one last year for our Cavs, since we don't have pet insurance. I can't remember atm how much we put into it (probably not a a huge amount ). My husband does it so im not sure if he has set it up for weekly or fortnightly deposits. We did use it all up on Joey's eye specialist/vet appts and neurosurgeon appt bills recently So we back to building it up again . I personally think its a great idea ! Ps it not used for their food.. just medical stuff.. I think we also paid for Miah's desexing out of it also ;)
