  2. Has anyone tried this? When my current dog goes to the rainbow bridge I'll probably move to a flat where I cannot own a medium/large dog for obvious reasons. However, I would still like to have a dog I could occasionally take camping with me, to parents house and work with me for one day a week, trips to the park etc. In other words, 'part own' a dog I could care for on average a few days a week. I would pay for 50% or whatever of all of the costs. His/her main place would be with someone who has a yard. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this before? Just a thought that occured to me.

  5. I have often pondered this question and have come to the conclusion, for me at least, that 2 really ties you down to a homebound life and makes holidays etc. very difficult. With one dog you can ask a mate to help out and look after them occasionally or leave at their place if you go on a trip. But most people I know think it might be stretching the favour if I asked them to look after 2 for any protracted period of time. Maybe its different with a smaller dog like pomeranians.
  6. HI Snook, I thought it was a given dogs dream. Mine sometimes semi-convulses and lets out whimpers while he is asleep and I thought that was him dreaming. True story. Was once on my bed with a member of the opposite sex when the white creature in my banner below suddenly jumped up on the bed and tried to get between us when we were getting closer.
  7. Do their personalities ever change much after they become full grown dogs, assuming they live in the same environment all their lives and the same routine?
  8. My 6 year old dog is perfectly healthy and happy. He is central to my life and gets 2 walks every day. Lately he is appearing a little agitated. He will come up to me, sit, stare at me with tail wagging and try and guilt me into walking him more. He is getting up earlier in the mornings and nudging me in bed, like he's ready to go and giving me the hurry-up. I thought dogs were meant to slow down as they age, not become more active. I don't know where this spurt of energy is coming from . There has been no change to his diet. And yes he is desexed. Is this perhaps the equivalent of a doggy mid-life crisis? Maybe he needs some time away at a dog resort since I can't take him to Bali or on a cruise?

  10. I sincerely hope so. 5 years, what a joke I was going to post about this in OT. 'Joke' isn't the word. The words required to describe both the perpetrator and the sentence would get me a permanent ban. RIP Kojak.

  12. I've got a stack of date expired Schmackos (use by end of 2011) still in their heat-sealed packaging. Would this be still okay to use as treats for my dog?

  14. Only had this 3 days. If anyone in rescue needs it feel free to PM me and I'll send it to you. Has elasticised corners and fits rear passenger seat like normal seat cover. Not the hammock type.

  16. I am looking at buying a Hiace campervan. It's got a middle and passenger seat in the front where I could harness-sit the samoyed, however it is an awkward height for him to jump up to and I'm not too keen on always lifting him when he is dirty plus he will eventually mess-up the passenger seat. This leaves the big area in the back of the van. It is laid out in typical camper style with a cushioned bench seat either side running most of the length of the cab and some floor space. He is used to looking out of the window and having air blow on him occasionally in a regular car. i'm not sure he will enjoy long camping trips if I plonk him on the floor in the back of the van and he cannot look out. Does anyone else here own a large-ish van and if so where do you seat your dog?

  18. Only if they cannot look after them properly and the health of the dog is at risk. I think that is a reasonable position to take.
  19. Mantis, I was putting things in perspective thats all. The dogs I saw on Saturday in Sydney don't compare to the poor wretched creatures I am seeing here.
  20. I am in China now and this probably comes as no great shock to anyone, but from what I have seen here it makes what I saw in the Sydney CBD look like a case of pampering. I was in a town 2 hours outside of Shenzen, 30,000 people, and locals tell me dog is on the menu in every restaurant there. It's terrible to see the condition of the dogs in the streets. A factory I visited has had 2 of its guard dogs stolen for food in the last 6 months. Can't wait to get home and see my samoyed.

 Thats what I thought. Whats a little bit of hair between friends? :D Was hilarious at the Million Paws Walk seeing fellow Sammy owners (most Ive seen for a few years) and all were covered in white follicles on their clothing. Yours truly included. :)
  22. At the beginning of the thread, you wanted their dogs removed. I wanted these particular ones removed because they didnt look well looked after. To be honest they are the only ones I have ever seen. I didnt know dogs amongst the homeless were as common as this thread has revealed.

The bane of my life; white fluff everywhere. Lets talk best removal methods? I have one of those lint remover red felt brushes. I tried the sticky paper roll thingos but they wear out too fast. Any other ideas? Gotta love samoyed hair. It gets on and into absolutely every nook and cranny imaginable!
