My Samoyed is average weight/size for his age. He's almost 5 months in a few days and has always had a fairly placid nature. He hardly chews anything, has dug a couple of holes in and out of the garden but nothing major and isn't much of a barker. Since being fully vaccinated I take him on short walks of about 10-15 minutes duration which he seems to cope with ok. He is a vigorous walker and like most pups wants to meet/chase every person/dog he sees. He plays in the yard by himself maybe 20 minutes a day, sometimes with me as well. He used to have "hyper" mode where he'd run round and round at frantic speed to use up all his energy but this seems to happen less and less. He still has lots of energy but I would say he's sleeping up to 16 hours a day! His physical growth has been absolutely staggering. In the 3 months I've had him, he has close to trebled in weight and size. I read somewhere pups grow while sleeping so could this explain why he sleeps so much? He's eating fine and seems perfectly healthy, but boy can he sleeeeep!!

If I was to buy a blower like the Double K Airmax, would that cut down on brushing a lot? Could I just blow out all the loose hair and undercoat?
-
Yep I'm wary of over-washing too. Its costing me about $60 a pop so beleive me I won't be over-doing it too much in future and if I am brushing and maintaining his coat regularly myself I'm sure the need for full washes will be minimised.

yep, 3 so far, and booked for a Xmas wash this Friday. Samoyeds don't have much of a doggy smell, but the white coats look best when white and shiney, the irony being, the whiter they are, the more the slightest bit of dirt stands out. Its a catch 22. But he looks fantastic after a wash and I need sunglasses just to look at him Am I a good "daddy" Myszka?

Awesome, thanks. wish me luck.

The best trolls are those who don't appear to be trolling. I give this one 6.5/10, the legal threat sorta gave the game away a bit lol.

You mean Molasses and Jaybeece? I wish

Come to think of it I've never heard/smelt my dog fart. Admittedly he's only 4.5 months but perhaps this is another claim to fame for Nutro? lol

Like, how much is a "little" younger? I know a few teens who are superb at forging drivers licences. How does yum cha on Boxing Day sound? I'll be there at the time and age you want me to be

We shall see Tangerine... :p

Here is a picture of his father...a Samoyed from Italy. Just take a look at all the Samoyed hair shed in that photo...not just in the foreground, behind him too. Have you ever seen anything like it? lol This is his dads' website: http://www.casarebosio.it/Zamoyski%20Lucky...io_Domi_eng.htm

yep but being a Samoyed I dont want that hair all over the laundry getting into everything especially when he drops his coat annually. I kid you not his hair gets in EVERYTHING. I wake up each morning and try to pick white hairs off my pillow in between insane bouts of sneezing I wash my clothes and theres still white hairs on them. However, I am not complaining. I knew this before I got him. I think its going to be done outside. :D

Thanks for above suggestions. Miranda, he was groomed by the breeder before he came to me, and she was the one who recommended the no-nonsense approach. My groomer washes him and does the nails and ears. Even trims the hairs around his bum. What a woman Where can I get a grooming table? Any pet store? Thats one thing my groomer said...its easier to groom him up high, she does it with him chained from above and in a "hugging" position. But me doing that won't stop him resisiting short-term. lol, its insane how much I'm getting into this dog thing. I just wanted something to feed, pat and throw a ball to. :D

Thanks for suggestion. I already did that and again it was a battle. The point here is I can groom him if I grab him and hold him despite his struggles. But he dislikes it intensly and one day he will be too big to handle like that. I'm trying to make the leap from this being a conflict to something he tolerates, and maybe in the future, something he enjoys. Its the only element of our dog and owner relationship where we don't see eye to eye Frequent grooming is an absolute must for my breed. I'd really prefer to use candy rather than the stick.

4.5 months. started a few weeks ago. Did it about 4 or 5 times..usually just parts of him at a time. Each session (about 5 minutes) was a battle of wills. Slicker brush and rake-comb. Floor. I don't have a grooming table (I think I need one). I should add I have a professional groomer who washes him and she seems to take the no-nonsense approach when grooming him on her table....I guess I'm a softy and I want him to enjoy being groomed.
-
Similarly, mine barks only when there's a reason...stranger approaching my place, over-excitement, telling me he needs to go out and wee etc.
-
I still say we were made for each other. Suit yourself.

...to the point that even if I put Schmackos near a comb, he heads the opposite direction. As soon as I grab any grooming implement, he runs like hell. Before I was a bit tough on him and used to resist his protests by holding him when I would slicker brush and comb him. I'm trying to get him to be submissive and maybe even enjoy being brushed. Time is marching on...the longer I leave it the harder this will be to do later. Suggestions? Or should i go back to being tough?

I'll update this thread soon with a link to one of my threads with some evidence of vaccinated dogs killed by parvo. I was shocked too but this information is from respected DOL'ers who's dogs were killed, and they have no reason to make this up....

%$^& !!!!!!!!

Thats easy: "hmm, interesting" says Samoyedman, chewing on the ends of his glasses, feigning intensity but in reality can't see a damned thing without his specs. For the record I failed biology in my 1985 HSC. I consider that a valid copout, I mean reason, for my lack of interest in canine anatomy. ;)

There was no emoticons so maybe I wasn't joking Besides I'm often accused of being an animal, which you profess to care about. I'm just taking the hint ok, ok, let sleeping dogs lie. Back to pretending to work.

I'm still on the lookout for my other half...part of me is wondering if Molasses is "The One". Stranger things have happend you know.
