Anatolian We want to make it not look like one, so were thinking of colouring it black and poodlefan got me thinking that we could change it to a pinto coloured dog, by using white chalk spray and leaving fawn patches...
-
yes The prupose is short term but if the best effect is a permanent dye, I guess I can use permanent. How long will it take to grow out? What are some permanent dyes that I can use? Is that a brand name or do you mean to look at what is in ring 5?

If you want to colour the coat black, black spray chalk might do it. That dries and won't come off on your hands. It does tend to make the coat rougher though. like 'Chris Sticks', but in a spray version? Does it make the coat feel liek it has something on it? I'd be colouring the whole body, legs and tail. hmm I dont want the dog to feel like it has been dipped in glue or that something is off with it s coat. The dog will be looked at, scrutinised to some degree.

actually white would be good too. But I dont think you can dye fawn white. ??? Can you? :D
-
oh my it works indeed! will it wash off in the rain, or drip colour?
-
DYEX or Food colouring also works short term, and is easy to source. Is there a black coloured food dye. Which one do I use? I know little about cooking and colour dyes
-
To those that dye their dogs coat or know of someone that does what products do you recommend/use? I need the colour to last about 24 hours and not to rub off on your hand if you touch the coat. No, it's not for showing purposes Thankyou PS: I have looked at chalk sticks but they are claggy and I'm not sure you can colour an entire coat with these???

How do you determine this?

Really? What posts are you reading then. If the OP wants to know if they are getting ripped off or not why don't they just say so. In fact, why don't all buyers make a post about the puppy/dog they are buying and if the breeder should charge them that amount or not. Because the collective DOL who dont know the dog or the breeder, are the fair price yardstick, isn't it? At this point the OP's sights are on a young Aust CH Newfoundland male from a reputable breeder, whose lineage and judgement they trust as their first Newfoundland has worked out so well. But if you take away all the knowns the OP has the benefit of, you get back down to a rescue price, so perhaps rescue is what the OP should be looking at. -

yes, i think 2k is alot also, but when we bought our newfie as a puppy she cost 2k - so i suppose that is why she is charging us this amount. I wish ours was only $250..... well find a dog that will cost you $250 then. -

Well you made a point about the price twice now, so I guess that's your issue. Why dont you buy a mature dog who fits in with your idea of what a mature dog should be priced at? Do you want to have puppies from your female? -

So Annoyed About An Ad I Just Read :(
BJean replied to Dogsrawesome's topic in General Dog Discussion
If there is a phone number on there I would report it to the police, skip the council. Idiot might think twice about writing stupid ad's if the cops show up questioning his intent to use a dog as a "dangerous weapon with intent to harm." And maybe the local RSPCA might get him to for "training an attack/fighting dog" not entirely true but they don't have to know that. Why would you want to get someone in trouble for something they haven't done? So the author's English is not great. It does not make them an idiot. 'A guard dog that bites someone' sounds to me like they are wanting a serious guard dog not a bark and run or a watch dog. I guess if they spell guard, as 'gard', then communication probably is not their strong point. A police matter? wtf just don't read the Ad ... *shrug* just sounds like a dangerous dog situation waiting to happen. Possibly an over reaction but yeah... to me just seriously sounds like someone who shouldn't be responsible for a dog "I want a dog that bites" is not a properly trained dog.. its a bad situation waiting to happen. I hope no one responds to the ad at all. not really -

Likewise. I will see if I can find anything typically ASD/CAO (I knew I should have bought more at the bazaar ...) -
Sorry for a sec and I asked you once before but cant remember the answer - what's the difference between the Kangal and Anatolian, Lilli? In Australia, the only difference between an Anatolian and Kangal Dog, is the name. You can't look at a dog that might be an Anatolian or Kangal, and determine from its appearance what it's registered breed actually is. Kangal dog has their own asphyxiating gene pool of registered Kangal Dogs, and Anatolians have their more diverse gene pool with access to registered Anatolians overseas and also dogs within Turkiye. http://www.takasvolkodav.com/page2.asp

oh okay, i hope you don't mind, i was curious as to the breed you keep referring to, i took the liberty to view your homepage, very beautiful dogs you have there. i understand what you say above is what your breed is faced with, with respect its not the case for every breed of dog though certainly not in ours anyway. Yes I know, but I am always incredibly biased and self-centered around my breeds The ANKC's Kangal Dog is in dire straits, and I have no idea what kind of future breeding plans other Kangal Dog registered breeders have or how they can even plan??? In any case, the ANKC have shelved Kangal Dog into the too hard basket: will or wont they re amalgamate Anatolian Shepherd with Kangal, are Kangal and Anatolian separate breeds blah blah The reality is because the Kangal are a rare breed, there is no pressure for the ANKC to do anything. And perhaps some Kangal breeders also have their head in the sand and are waiting for neverland from Turkiye which will never come. Fortunately I also breed Anatolian, so ANKC's lack of action with Kangal doesn't ultimately affect me.

i assure you it isn't "hyperbole" what ever that means, i assume it means emotional crap. we have lived in an area for over 25 years our family dealing with these people i talk off and have had first hand experience with a few and i know what their opinion is. The above paragraph isn't about their opinion. We have the proposed question: is churning out cross breed pups and sometimes poor quality purebreeds what they are supposed to do? and its given answer: out in the open or behind closed doors is one and the same when we look at over crowding in shelters of poor defenseless animals. there are way too many puppies been bred for profit as it is that are put down every day steve, their only crime is being brought into this world and discarded like a product. Perhaps you can explain the cause and effect you are trying to demonstrate? Are you saying that dogs end up in shelters because there are too many being bred - That dogs are euthd in shelters because breeding farms cause excess supply of puppies, which results in the dogs' value in society decreasing, hence they are discarded with no care by their owners, with many getting euthd because breeding farms keep churning out puppies which take up all the available homes??? so explain to me what the misinformation is then? and by whose standards is it misinfo. the article you refer to is just one opinion im going on having first hand experience with these kinds of people. overbreeding in this context refers to the end product ie the numbers of dogs in shelters. What would be relevant, is if you had first hand experience with the owners who no longer want their dogs. The RSPCA's own figures and the Centre For Companion Animals in the Community are the data standards that says your overpopulation assertion is misinformation. http://www.ccac.net.au/issues/Population_control What do you believe is the main driver of dogs in shelters? im not going to get into the positives and negatives of a pedigree dog and what a registered breeder is, we all know what we are referring to im sure, how does inbreeding get into it. Inbreeding comes into it because according to you, the only source of puppies should be registered breeders. A home that wants a puppy of the breed I am referring to would be well advised to steer clear of registered dogs of this breed because of the issues outlined above. The breed is in its current state due to ANKC Rules and Regulations. Why should a member of the public only have access to ANKC registered dogs of this breed, when a healthier individual can only be bred out of ANKC Registered Breeder provisions.

Cryo Genes helped me import semen from Hungary and then later Italy a few years ago. At the time, Hungary was a logistical nightmare and Cryo Genes were very good.

There's areas of Australia with mice plague atm and for all anyone knows, your house could be on the fringe of one. I'd kill the little bugger now, before you get overrun by them. Better to deal with one dead mouse, than one thousand live ones. http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/218816-bloody-mice/page__p__5259659__hl__%2Bmice+%2Bplague+%2B__fromsearch__1#entry5259659
