  1. So you think a primitive guardian dog should not have a strong aversion to strangers? CAFIB are doing it right. People get caught up on the aggression towards strangers aspect and fail to see the balance and nerve inherent in the total dog. The issue is that there is a lot of misunderstanding and hype about how certain dogs perceive and react to the world around them. Personally I find breed clubs / registries deliberately breeding AGAINST HA/DA in certain breeds that traditionally have these characteristics in their functionality a concern. You need to think how you expect a primitive guardian dog to behave and what prompts its reactions.
  2. the only extra piece of info that they would get from your licence I assume, is conformation you are who you say you are. Right, well if my dodgey license with my alternative name was accepted for membership in 2011, how will DV sighting it again when I renew my membership in 2012, help weed me out? it might not catch you and your fabulous photo shopping skills, but I'm sure it would catch some others. We can go round and round and DV can profess that it will work, but how will it work - how will DV verify and authenticate without increase costs and reduction in efficiency for Members. I really dont understand how catching a few of a few is frontline for DV. And it wont even work anyway! but I guess if it makes some members feel more wholesome, then it's a small price to pay.
  3. You believe that DV can do what Border security and Vic Roads cannot? I have reported a few "repeat" offenders and DV has removed them once they have investigated all the information I have supplied them. lol but I dont think DV are proposing you stand at the counter and all check our IDs. We are discussing a systematic implementation of yearly Identity checks - how will the DV proposal be effective?
  4. I am not saying that DV do nothing to improve the security to avoid members/potential members from abusing a system, but how would having photo ID stop this! Up until late last year anyone could join up without showing proof of who they were. The same suspended people would join up again and again with fake information A new made up name, new po box, new pre paid mobile phone number etc And this is the frontline for DV? This is where they imagine turning points will be fought and won?

  6. I don't see them putting up fees, so where do you get increased costs from? Increased costs to DV to any organisation ALWAYS results in increase fees. Time is money. Verification and authentication take time. And time always lags. So processing time will now require more staff and members will be told to wait longer. Or are DV not going to check the paper work their given? You believe that DV can do what Border security and Vic Roads cannot? Members dont mind paying a small price for a benefit, but dont ask members for more of their time and money to humor fools.
  7. I am not saying that DV do nothing to improve the security to avoid members/potential members from abusing a system, but how would having photo ID stop this! The last time I was asked for my membership card was at an AGM. I have shown since, never been asked. Been into the office, never been asked. Transfers, never been asked. Maybe they need to consider some alternatives and explain to members what they are setting out to achieve. As previously mentioned this was considered over ten years ago and was considered to be an added cost for little to no benefit. Make it too hard for members to renew and they wont be bothered. Anyhoo, are DV going to require all members to show 'photo ID' at the DV office each year or can we send "certified copies" of our photo ID, fresh from our colour laser printer forge masters ... haha DV and their administrators need to wake up what do they imagine they are, a necessity like a Bank or Passport Office?
  8. So for the 1% (which the new rule will not effect) it is a fabulous idea to hamper and inconvenience the other 99% and increase costs???
  9. Tabloid? My sources are the breed standard in the country of origin and websites of breed advocates. . . plus time spent in Brazil. The Fila is not an ordinary guardian breed. Tabloid - its always the same sensationalist selection. What do you call an ordinary guard breed? Goodie you have spent time in Brazil, it's a sexy place - did you spend time interacting with any of the dogs?
  10. Sandgrubber, we have discussed this breed before and the traits of a guardian dog have been explained, yet it seems you still persist with the tabloid cut and pastes. Since the last round, have you spent time with an individual or two from this breed?
  11. In your reality, probably best for there to be no tolerance for any dog. To imagine that aggression exists in a vacuum and hence can be cut out of what is dog, is ludicrous. Get a stuffed toy. because that is where aggressive dogs come from...
  12. where is the photo? I want to see big fluffy x shampoo = big mess pic :D
  13. How does it impact the 'desexing cause' that being told overfeeding is the reason for their dogs weight gain and subsequent lack of energy? It's one of the easiest things to change and improves the quality of life. If more people were told that desexed dogs require less food and adjusted accordingly maybe there wouldn't be so many wives tales about 'desexing makes your dog fat'. Desexed dogs require less food because Desexing doesn't make your dog fat???
  14. Actually anything would have been great last Friday there were no customs in Prague who spoke English - and I'm ignorant and could not speak neither Czech nor Russian. So my puppy got sent back to Minsk anyway but all is okay now I think.
  15. Yes, and maybe this was the breeder's intention.
  16. well Im not about money, money wouldnt mean anything to me, its about the welfare of my pups.....I would give them their money back, no issues, and im pretty sure thats inline with australia's refund policies. Well money does mean something to you, because the deposit you paid made you think about your purchase.
  17. Ditto, what breed is it? To me a deposit would be between $100 - $200. I really dont care what breed it is. 1500 isn't a lot for an adult dog and it sure isn't a lot for a adult female as a potential brood bitch.
  18. well i think not giving back $1500 would be very unfair. and as people have said above, fine I could always take the dog then and re-sell on the trading post.... Well maybe you should have a think before you do something, like agree to buy an adult dog. Better that paying a deposit made you realise what you were doing, than you telling the breeder 'oh yeah we'll have her' and then just dawdle around because you dont really want the dog.
  19. cool! hopefully it will work thankyou
  20. Enough to make someone looking at the dog, believe that its dyed colour was real? So say a dog like this, dyed fawn and white, or black (what are terrier markings?)
