  1. ONE Register but not ONE interpretation of the Registration Rules.
  2. <granted I found the document unlcear> wrt reigstering and Dogs Vic doing or not doing, Dogs Vic can simply refuse to register or not follow what Dogs NSW have done wrt registering. "We're Dogs Victoria not Dogs NSW, what Dogs NSW register is a matter for Dogs NSW, not Dogs Victoria"
  3. Best way would be to establish a breed club. Which would circumvent the need for petition. Dogs Vic would then go to ANKC Conference representing its Affiliated Breed Club.
  4. No, loyal and independent are not mutually exclusive. A loyal and independent dog will often be only loyal to one human. That the dog is aloof does not diminish the loyalty, it may even make their loyalty more significant :)
  5. Sometime we must kill. But it is a heavy duty, and not the debased activity that was executed here. This is not about boundaries, but disconnection of the human from the earth and its creatures. To [cull - ok] and cut up for spectacle ... Copenhagen, what disgusting humans.

  7. haa Poodlefan indeed :D oooh President of ACT **ASD & CAS special favours request incoming ** @ Chuck Norris Troy for the senior poodles :)
  8. I ordered the toys from Aus Shipping only site (pets1), and I will post the items o/s when received. The site which does ship o/s (waggle), does not gift wrap. :)
  9. Well it is and it isn't - The New Zealand Huntaway should show great endurance, activity and intelligence with free and true action and in good hard muscular condition. A Huntaway's voice (bark when moving stock) should be deep, loud and able to be maintained all day. This is helpful (and similar would have helped Anatolian/Kangal understanding) A Huntaway's colour, coat and size are totally irrelevant as compared to their working ability although it is accepted that a high percentage fit into the mid size, black and tan, smooth haired range. Only ? is this statement: Though any size is acceptable the mid range would likely be:
  10. Possibly a more effective way to preserve workability is for workability to be implemented from the breeders/breeding point of view or club focus. Traditional working dog breed standards that were not able to be judged (or were irrelevant to) a conformation show, went something like: head like a brick, heart of a lion, fight like a bear. But I am guessing the Huntaway breed standard is not like this :D ... *goes to look see*
  11. Yes ... for Sunny, her mum and sister ... am I that obvious? :D
  12. okay cool thank you I will have a look :)
  13. Can anyone recommend an online store that sells toys for dogs that are Australian? ie Koala or kangaroo squeaky toy Need to have international shipping to all countries, as I am sending to a friend o/s. Thank you
  14. Yes Jed. I dont care who I offend when it comes to accepting homes for puppies (They call me the bitch in the south :D - and that's the puppy buyers! ) I black list on various criteria, better to preempt problems.
  15. Sometimes there can be problems with registering the sire / dam if its not a straight forward situation ie ANKC registered dog. But if this is the case, it would be nice if the breeder could keep you in the know. Maybe ring the State CC of the rbeeder and ask if there is any pending issue (delay) with the reg sire and dam of your puppy. Hope all is resolved soon :)
  16. Beautiful image of a Shepherd Dog and its environment (Georgia) yes casowner I am in love with this dog :)
  17. Protection LGDs dont stay with the herd. They intensely defend territory and have a very stong sense of pack. They are not interested in the herd except for changes of normal behaviour which indicate changes in their territory. They accept the herd as part of their environment and therefore receive cues from the herd. In effect they remove and reduce more than they deter eg: hunt and confront the hunters. They dont give a lot of warning; some will sit invisible in the grass and by time an intruder knows it is under attack the working dog is already upon it. A fence to keep the dogs in can be a normal stock fence. Traditionally it is their shepherd they are bonded to. The dogs are following him not the herd. Pack keeps them together. That is why some are not people dogs; they only need to accept the shepherd and his family. The difference in temperament traits often come from the difference in cultures that keep the dogs; their environment and utilisation. In mountains you need a dog that will react suddenly because a threat can come upon a dog and its owner/family/herd unawares. A dog that will go from stop to go immediately with the intent to carry through is required. A dog in the plains needs to run further. More thinking, less intensity is required.
  18. It is not intended to say one dog is better than the other, that is not the case. and it is not about size of the dog, but differences in mentality, pain threshold and physical structure. (all working LGD sex of the dog does not matter). In an army you have different types of soliders. All soldiers are valuable and do their task. 100 arrowmen can be effective and the most efficient, othertimes 10 cavalry are required, other times you send in 2 SAS to take care of the problem. It's about inputs and outputs, timeframes, desired outcomes. An analysis about working dog efficiencies and the technicalities of how/why this is the case is not really a discussion for a public dog forums where information can be taken and misused. steve: I see MDBA is in Vic this year, we talk about our obsessions then :)
  19. I dont think its the stock ie cattle, goat, sheep but the size of the predator. Foxes and dingos are not really a problem, they are not very big and will not physically confront an LGD. The problems some farmers face are big feral dogs that do not behave like dingos and are maybe one or two generations feral, and with pigging mix backgrounds. Farmers in Vic high country have unowned dogs killing their kelpies and cattle dogs and their stock. The complication is, the type of dog that will run down, overcome and kill big predators, are far removed from the average Australian understanding of a stock protection dog. Maremmas & Pyreneans are not as effective against big unowned dogs because they are not active defence protection dogs. Their working style ie level of aggression and wiring is to avoid conflict and deter. This is perfect for the majority of situations in Australia. Maremma are the most popular stock guardian dog in Australia because they are the best suited stock guardian dog for the Australian culture and living conditions. Big predators require protection dogs with a different sort of mentality and morphology than maremma/pyrenean. The reality is most Australia has very little understanding and preparedness for dogs that are in their element in these situations. ie Ovcharkas, Central Asia, Caucasian, Anatolia EG: Government agency contacted me wanting dogs to dispose of a group of unowned dogs killing large stock and causing havoc. But it was not logical to them, that a dog equipped for this task has a mentality that is very territorial, protective and reactive. I said, for sure you will have no more feral dogs in the Parks. But you will also have no more hikers or bushwalkers. And absolutely no, the dogs would not be happy for bushwalkers to approach. This concept could not be understood. They thought the dogs would bark and defend from a distance; somehow chase away the unwanted dogs, but not be aggressive. In Aus, farmers that do have protection dogs equipped to confront and dispose of large predators, have secure fences to keep their dogs and stock in, but more to keep human thoroughfare out.
  20. In a 12 month period during 2012-2013, 987 puppies were exported to Singapore from Australia, 646 of those puppies were sent from Melbourne airport and the majority of these puppies were born on Victorian puppy factories. Have you checked if this information is correct?
  21. oh this change is a PITA and not very helpful at all, although marketed as such In actuality AQIS have extended its quarantine to 180 + 10 previously dogs could enter aus and make up the 180 days in quarantine. ie 150 days in the country of export + 30 days in Aus Quarantine, or 140 days in the country of export + 40 days in Aus Quarantine etc Now its minimum 180 days in the exporting country. + an extra 10 days on arrival in Australia. This is worse for dogs coming from non- approved import countries. [Plus EU imposed RNAT on EU nonmember countries which AU will not recognise.] Another unhelpful [political] change feeling irritated and having a rant
  22. Nothing wrong with that. Indeed I think it is an inexpensive price difference. Remember when you buy on main, you are buying bloodlines.
