  1. I don't know how or what or if you should test the other breeds. I can only respond for LGD, and then for Antolian and Central Asian. I guess I am a fossil like my dogs  specialised with what I know but not very applicable to the general
  2. Atypical working temperament in Anatolians and Central Asian is already difficult for most homes in Australia to accommodate, and far removed from what Australians expect of dog behaviour. Australian culture expects big teddy bears. Also it is a misnomer to imagine the purported physical soundness and health in these breed groups comes from the dog 'working'. The breeds' hardiness comes from the dogs' total environment IE: the way the dogs are raised, kept and bred in their home countries. Stock guardian work is the best way we can emulate the home countries conditions, but still it is very far removed from the actuality.
  3. If there is a need in potential homes for working ability, then the working ability will remain. There is no need to regulate for it. However, if as you imagine it eventuated that a breeder group in Australia UK or USA (or any other country which feels the need to regulate everything), decided working ability/integrity was lacking, then such breeder groups could obtain dogs with working ability/integrity from the dogs' countries of origin. It is no problem. :)
  4. I think 'testing' would be disastrous for LGDs. Mainly because there exists so much variance and required behaviours under 'working LGD'. Notwithstanding, you cannot test a dog's willingness to carry out defence under no instruction or a dog's interactions with other dogs in this context. Plus I'm wary of the notion: 'my dog tested for it so my dog can do it'. In the real world the only test is actual performance, and I would not like to see stock guardian dogs' abilities caricatured into a 'test' conducted by and awards earned for dogs and people very far removed from the actuality of stock guard work. Some dogs are wonderful in all aspects and will micromanage hundreds of free range fowl, some are PITA to manage, yet they will shoot the breeze removing the local wild dog population ... I cannot think of a test that would incorporate all types of working dogs and their personalities, and I dont think a 'general temp test' will help much either. Tests are effective when the realm being tested is specific. It would be nice to have short cuts to guage in 20 minutes what takes 12 months - 2 years to determine out in the field, but I don't think it exists. ETA: This is not a helpful premise from which to conduct a performance test for a breed. Fortunately (for now) Anatolian and Central Asian are somewhat removed from this current politic.
  5. Yes Dost went to a great home in Canberra :)
  6. 1L fresh Goats Milk was in Coles, Vermont South. I also bought 1L from IGA in Narre Warren North today.
  7. I am not sure what the due process is for a State CC to move to rescind an ANKC Ruling, but I imagine it would require the State CC to consult with ALL of its registered Breeders of the affected breed, and not just one breeder? Otherwise it looks like Dogs QLD are acting on behalf of one breeder while obfuscating the other. That looks really bad and I hope I am wrong. In any case I will ask in General ... maybe this is allowed, I genuinely do not know.
  8. The Kangal Breed Standard has been removed from the ANKC website and the Kangal breed has been deleted from the official ANKC Breed Listing: ANKC
  9. Hi Nekhbet, I have sent you a PM. L:)
  10. Yes There is an image of the Clumber Health Check with the veterinarian's name. I'd like to know the experience / CV of the appointed vets ...
  11. AWL don't seem to know much about dog rehoming either. Although their play on words in their annual report to doll up poor performance, suggests Tim Vasudeva should busy himself with a licensing system for AWL CEOs, or maybe just busy himself with AWL actually rehoming more animals (instead of making misleading beat up statements about it).
  12. Maybe we should start a new petition, to curb the Reproductive Breeding Rights of such idiots (Reproductive Breeding rights only because we recognise the majority are young and at university, and recreational breeding rights will give them something to do when they are not signing petitions).
  13. Isn’t the Licence fee a significant impost to breeders who are already doing the right thing? The licensing scheme would get rid of unethical breeders, meaning ethical breeders would have less competition. This would more than compensate for any financial inconvenience from the Licence fee. Would pounds, shelters and rescue groups require a Breeding Licence? No, an authorised rescue number would enable them to rehome rescue puppies or kittens. What if my dog or cat has an accidental litter but I don’t want to apply for a Breeder Licence as it’s a one-off occurrence? You could surrender the litter to a shelter who will rehome them for you. Get farkd. May the Troy powers at DOL land forgive me for my inability to pen an intelligent and mature reply (but my disgust at the repressive state of affairs I could not contain). May the one God grant me my Exit visas.
  14. You haven't spoken to my mother :D On drawing conclusions ... is it relish the camera lens has captured or delirious relief? ... who knows
  15. WTF!, who are you people? and what are you doing on a "animal rescue site:?? Anyone who enjoys killing animals has NO PLACE in ANY business associated with other animals!! Mmm nice and rational.
  16. Relishing?????? That is your interpretation of people or a person in photo where you have not idea what was going on in their minds so it is unlikely you have guessed correctly that they are "relishing" their kill. Oh to be that psychic. lol @ DF
  17. Rubbishing the notion that dogs can be dominant is bin waste material also.
  18. I do not know the answer to that question Kirty :) However I do not think the question posed, can be used as justification for the current state of affairs at Crufts. There are many breeds that have Caesarians and utilise AI. imo reproduction and fertility is another discussion, and separate to the charade of health tests that the KC have put on display. fwiw I think health tests before significant awards is a good thing. However health tests before significant awards, should also be conducted before the preliminary classes of those significant awards. NO PERSON and their dog deserves the real time DQ that these three dogs (to date) went through. I would not like it, crikey I am bummed enough when one of my little creatures gets non awarded  And if nothing else it is not just. The level of media exposure given to the DQ, can never be counteracted by any subsequent appeal or Specialist veterinarian dismissal of the DQ. Yes they are show dogs. But they are someone's much loved show dog. Someone's confidant. Someone's pride and Joy. Someone's happiness. There is no care or better intention in what the KC are doing at Crufts. It does not inspire better breeding practices or foster good will. Only damage and disarray.
  19. Haaaaaaaa she is really cute! :D looks happy to meeeeeeeeee
  20. So how does a Crufts vet aided with a torch, and not any specialised equipment or specialist training and experience (I assume the latter as I do not know the Cruft vet's CV) make a judgement call on the cause and effect of such a scar?
  21. Hello, do you understand that the three dogs DQ'd have had health checks and specialist testing? Maybe we should have a name and shame for stupid ideas ... I don't know, how productive do you think that will be? And woops I forgot we are all people ... dont we all generally learn and want to better ourselves and our endeavours, if criticism, when delivered, is also delivered with a helping hand not a slap in the face?
  22. Either the KC are challenging the Veterinary system - and ruling eye health certificates are wrong or inadequate and meaningless - or the Crufts vet is wrong. I guess that is why there is no appeals process  What a cockup the KC have made of this. It could have been done so well, all KC have done is made themselves look unprofessional and ad hoc. well done!
