Just a thought... Chocolate on here has Basenji's, and she is in Perth. Most Basenji girls are in season at the moment... Maybe PM her ???
-
LizT, it sure will :) ... HANNAH, I was wondering if the eggs do stay viable ??? I really hope in her case thats what has happened :) ... She's back home today, and was very excited to see us, as we were, to see her... The looooong countdown begins !!!
-
So they had another 18 min tie this am... They were both not as eager this morning, but got there in the end ... Shes coming home tomorrow :D ... Talking to another Basenji breeder, and she believes that there isnt a chance she is/will be pregnant, and that the cervix will already be closed, so no sperm can/will get through... Oh well will U/S her at 4 weeks...

Ok we have all our fingers and toes crossed for Basenji babies due 13-15th June :D ...

Hi shepherds, I think if you are in the south of the state, that Montrose Vets will do the Titre testing for about $70, I think :) ... This is second hand info from a conversation I had a few days ago... The number is 62723599... I actually couldnt see any info, in the Yellow pages about Montrose Veterinary clinic, so I looked up individual Vets in the Montrose area, and they all had the same phone number... Good luck :) ...

Bisart Dobes thats what I was thinking too, (after my gut said no, we've missed her), I started to think about it. The dog is an experienced boy, he spent no time on foreplay, it was a case of 'Wham Bam, Thank You Mam', both times  ... She is a maiden, so I wanted to do the prog testing, (especially with the family history of late matings with her lines), cos she was being sent away to him. My boys here certainly thought she was ready, the day she was 82.1, the screaming, whinging, restlessness etc, etc... One of the main reasons I did the prog test, was to get an idea of where she was at, so she didnt have to do what your bitch did, sit up there waiting, waiting, waiting !!!

Yep your bang on there  ...

Oooooh that does sound hopeful Fordogs :D ... Were you too thinking that you may not have babies ??? Aziah, I really hope so, otherwise there wont be a litter from her till this time nexy year, unless she has an 'out of season' season !!!

Just not sure if I should get my hopes up here, and wanting some advice :) ... Ok so my girl started her season a little oddly, small amount of browny red discharge, for a few days, then nothing, then a couple of days later, blood, small amount of swelling, for about 8-ish days, then no blood, swelling, and a few days later more blood... I counted day 1 fom the first day of bleeding. She was prog tested on day 5 with a reading of less than 1... she was then prog tested again on day 12 and she was 82.1. (stupid Easter stopped us from testing her from about day 9-ish), and that was this Tuesday. I couldnt get her up to her "Beau" till about 8 pm on Thursday, but she had a 25 minute tie then, followed by another 25 minute tie this morning. Will try to have another tomorrow... She was very receptive to the dog, flagging etc, both days. With her prog reading being so high, do you think she has a chance of having a litter ??? My gut tells me no, that we have missed her, but, with her being so receptive to the male, and having 2 good ties, Im now thinking just maybe :) ... She comes from strong female lines of late in the season matings, usually around the late teens/early 20's... Idea's ???

Mmmm me too, all going to plan :) ...

The low nutritional content is the point, when it becomes important to slow growth. It's a temporary thing. You don't slow growth down with high nutritional content. Also, for the same reason, wouldnt you put this pup on adult food for the decreased levels of protein, fat etc, etc ???

Allerzeit that is a rather unbecoming pic of both Nova and Bruce, but it really made me giggle ...

Just want to have a little brag :) ... St Paddy's day show put on by Brighton Kennel Club yesterday... Our lovely Basenji girl Ch Wazazi Living Doll, Vanda, was awarded RUBIG/Intermediate in Group under Mrs J Ireland, QLD, and then our Ch Wazazi High Expectations, Ochre, was also Open in Group. These girls are half sisters... Then to top off a wonderful day, Vanda was awarded Intermediate in Show under Mr A McQuire, QLD ... Very proud of my 2 daughters who are showing the Basenji's so well, they are just blossoming as handlers, and my heart-felt thanks goes to both of them ...

What Is Important For You When Boarding Your Dogs?
rajacadoo replied to OSoSwift's topic in General Dog Discussion
Our dogs, (Basenji's) were in a boarding kennel last year for nearly 8 weeks, and one thing that was offered, (for a small additional cost), was either a bushwalk, or a beachwalk... My 2, (other dogs were in different boarding kennels), had either one, every second day, to help relieve their boredom... They loved it, they were NOT to be off lead, (I think it was the rule that NO dog was allowed to be off-lead, anyway), and it was wonderful. I realise that it would depend on where your kennels are situated, but maybe something to consider, if you were able to... As Basenjis are shocking escape artists, VERY secure runs were very much on top of my priority list, but it sounds like you have that covered :) ... Also as Pav Lova said, the ability to follow MY directions at all times, meaning great communication between all staff, needs to be a HIGH priority too... -
+1 Showed one for a friend once Raja... it was "interesting" Classic case of "you're not the boss of ME"!!!! Yeah INTERESTING is possibly one way of describing them  ... Ive had my 'most humiliating' moments in the ring with these little buggers, and I wouldnt hand over any of mine to unsuspecting handlers ;) ... Ohhhhhhh except the day I had a wardrobe malfunction showing my ACD boy, but I wont go there, makes me blush just thinking about it now ...

Help With Identifying Parasite On My Lab

It did the same to me too... Couldnt wait to get out of that site ... -
A basenji is not for someone with limited dog experience and especially for someone who's kids are not used to having a dog in the house. There are exceptions, but generally I would never suggest a basenji for someone like this. Kids who have never had a dog before more than likely will want a dog that will be playful with them, and obedient. Which proves, Curly, that I sure know less about the Basenji! Thanks for that. "Primitive" breed temperaments are very interesting. The Basenji and the Pharoah Hound are quite different to any other dogs I have met. I hear Shibas are similar. Very feline in some aspects and with a ton of prey drive .. or the ones I know are. Definitely a breed for fanciers only IMO. +1

Hows things this am Tracie ??? Has the hairy poo been delivered  ???

Sounds like some good news... I bet your bank balance will still look a little sad for a while ;) ... Im dying to hear about the poo, to see what it is !!! Interesting about the flying hair. Its not something I would EVER have thought might have been a possible article for a bowel obstruction, ever ... Please keep us updated on here oir FB... Give her a cuddle from us :) ...

I had one similar to these, and I put a litter of 7 week old Basenjis in it, sleeping... Have an hour later the whole thing had moved about 20 metres from where I left it :) ... Wouldnt trust a GSP in it !!!

Thank you sooo much everybody, you have all give me a lot to think about, and research. At the moment I have stopped the kelp, until I have a chance to research and contact Jean Dodds... I will do the Livermol evey second night and I will also look into flax/linseeds, thanks to dog geek's info... Dog geek is the seeds I want, or can I use oil, (I think you can flax/linseed oil) ??? Really interesting about your son's hair colour change, really interesting :) ... Alyosha I too wondered about the very high sugar level, with Molasses, (?sp?), being the main ingredient... More research needed... Also very interesting about the lack of iodine also causing dandruff/scurf, because all 4 Basenji's have dandruff in spades. I have tried to get rid of it, with no success at all, and had put it down to them all wearing their coats a lot, due to the climate, (Im in Tassie), and also cos 'I think' they are cold, so they do wear them, probably more than they actually need ... S'n'T your girl's colouring is exactly what I want in my B's... She is gorgeous, and no you most certainly wouldnt know she was 11, and had liver cancer... Huge congrats to you, shes looks sensational ... Nek, I want to eventually change all my dogs onto raw, but firstly I need a big freezer, and it is another thing I need to do tons more research on :) ... Need more hours in the day !!! I will lookinto the Fish Oil you have mentioned as well... ETA needed to make sentences make sense...
