Wait...? rajacodoo, don't you have experience with shibas somewhere down the traps? Or am I imagining it somehow? (when we talk about weird noises and all...." Cannibalgoldfish, no I don't have anything to do with Shiba's, except adoring them from afar :)... When looking for my 'old-age' retirement breed to show, I stupidly was deciding between the Shiba and the Basenji... (I say stupidly, cos I didn't realise that you move as fast as, if not faster, in the showring, with the B's as you do the ACDs, lol ...). So to cut a long story short, having had/have ACD's with their double coats, and being sick of 'naked' dogs through summer, and not being able to show them much cos or this, in the end the Basenji's won, becausebof their nice short single coats... Then along came Java with his problem coat, but thats a whole 'nuther story

Thanks OsoSwift, will do some scouting around... Thanks aliwake and Lisa, will be getting some after this mad week of showing in Launceston...

PML about you observations of Basenji's... So, so true . I live with 6... If you really want to hear them in 'full cry' go to a show, or even better a specialty, when they are all in season, (yes boys go in season as well as the girls), now that's an experience, lol ...

Really, where would I get that???? Health food shop???
-
Thanks for that, I will have to get some and try it... I like the idea that it improves the red colour, I'd love him to be a better red, too... Clearly when I stated above that I had tried nearly everything, I hadn't ...

I am guessing you would have tried Livamol?? Mmmm no I actually dont think I have ... What is it OSoSwift, and where can I get some???

Just something to keep in mind, with the dog being an 'ACD'... I had a 6 month old ACD bitch who started pacing, esp around the outer walls of the lounge/dining room, as well as other odd neurological behaviour, and to cut a long story short, she was diagnosed with advanced liver shunt, and sadly PTS, at 6 1/2 months... Liver shunts/disease are a medical issue that sadly is affecting more and more ACD' s. Just something to possibly warn her about...

I have a 3 year old Basenji boy with a pretty poor coat, that I have tried just about everything on, including Showstopper... Didn't work for him at all ...

Ahhh ok thanks :-)...

The results seem to cut off after a few classes of Am Staff's... Shame, hope it can be fixed tomorrow.

Confused As To What To Do Next?

So, so sorry for your loss, RIP Joey... -
Thanks Austerra, that gives me all the info I need

Agree Steve... The only time I've had Uterine Inertia, was a bitch I gave calcium supplements too during her pregnancy... The only time I've had OCD in a different bitch, (same breed, ACD), was when I was supplementing her with large doses of calcium, (on the breeders recommendations)... Will not touch the stuff now, unless needed, and under Vet's recommendations...

Thanks Rebanne, will do...

Ive been trying to find out what shows are on, on 1st March 2014, in Vic. We are coming over for the Basenji Club of Vic Champ Show, but I'm not getting anywhere fast... I suspect I need to be a member to access that info, and I'm not... Could someone who knows how to find that info, either link it for me, or let me know what shows are on, at whichever venue, (just emailed the sec of the club to see which venue the champ show is at, KCC Park or Bulla), for both the Basenji's and the ACD's, please????? TIA.

Thanks Sway :)

Might be a silly question, but when you measure a chocker chain, do you measure from the top of the ring, to the bottom of the other ring??? Or do you just measure the link part only???
-
Its a fine line to tread though Sway. With a Fauve if you were to trim a tail it can go negatively against you under a breed specialist - had it happen myself. Will confess to neatening them here in Australia but would ensure I didn't do it leading up to a specialist. We had a very well known ACD breeder come over to Tassie to judge, quite a few years ago now, and all of us exhibitors had only recently been told by a well known Group 5 judge, to trim our ACD's tails, as it looked so much more professional, neaten it up, etc, etc... So we ALL trimmed them neatly off, and off we all went, into the ring, proud as punch with all our dogs having their lovely trimmed tails... Very bad move ... After she finished judging ACD's, she asked us all to put the dogs away, and all come back to the ring... Yes she stopped judging :-)... So we did, then she asked us, all 'Why do you all have trimmed tails on your dogs, every dog here today???' We explained what the recent group 5 judge had told us, and that was why the tails were all trimmed... She was gobsmacked, and we were all told to let their tails grow back and to NEVER, EVER trim them again... All told to us very politely I might add :)... Now I have Basenji's, and nearly every exhibitor in Aus trims/shaves their dogs tails, and while I neaten my guys tails up, I refuse to shave them... I think I've been scared for life ...

Well done, what a wonderful debut...
