  1. You can have a full panel done here, you just have to request it... About 6 months ago, I was looking into all this for one of my dogs... I did the looking around and the ringing around, and I stopped the process when the finances got to close to $1000, for the same tests that Jean Dodds does. I finally got one company to tell me that the reason the costs were so high, was the lack of interest in getting the thyroid panels done, and they were trying to discourage it... Go figure. I really dont want someone that disinterested in my dogs health results, to do it actually :D . So that is where I sent my bloods too, Dr Jean Dodds. Not only was it sooooo much cheaper, I also liked the idea that my dogs thyroid panel was being assessed by someone who specialises in Thyroid diseases too :D Also she is VERY approachable as well. I have emailed her about 8-10 times, always with a prompt reply . Ernie can I just correct you, and say that you dont need to get a courier to transport the bloods to Jean any more. If you follow her guidelines on her website, so long as you do everything 'to the t', there is no issue. I have sent 2 lots of bloods to her, over the last 6 months, both without the International courier. I sent the bloods myself at the PO . Much easier and MUCH cheaper !!!
  2. Basenjis are notorious for this . Little handful of bicckies before bed, and problem solved . Having said that I think mine are bwoken, cos they dont do it at all .
  3. Completely OT, apologies to the OP . Trisven13, My daughter has had the joy of showing, I think, Daphne's sister, Calais (?SP), down here in Tassie... She really is taken with her. What gorgeous little dogs they are, and Calais just wants to have cuddles from anybody that gets close enough to her... She is very successful I might add . We quite often have the BOB Basenji, then just behind is BOB Calais, (Cos I just cant spell the breeds name at all !!!). Both shown by my girls ... (Sorry shameless brag there !!!)...
  4. Winter nose is also VERY common in the Basenjis as well .
  5. Maria you know you have all my thoughts and sympathies as well . It was my 2 girls who had Bud as their 'teacher', in the ring, and a better teacher you could not find anywhere at all. He was a star. A temperament to die for, a gentleman, who adored his family and would have done ANYTHING for them. He gave wonderful kisses, and cuddles, and much to Maria's disgust, I loved to go up to the handsome man and bury my whole head in his gorgeous coat, usually just before he was about to go in the ring . My timing wasnt always the best though, and I would hear from behind me, "Oh Jenni, stop mucking up his coat, PLEASE. Ive just finished grooming him !!!"... When my girls had sleepovers at Marias place, with her daughter, they would go out and Buddy just begged them to throw his ball, they did it, over, and over, and over and over again . When they lost interest, Bud would be nearly begging them to continue, and sometimes the look on his gorgeous face would work its charm, and off he would go, chasing the ball again . He won . A stunning boy, who will be so sadly missed by all who knew him. Rest in peace Budweiser, look over you family every day and night... Guide them gently . Maria Im only a phonecall away, (If I answer the phone ...).
  6. I live close-ish to Kingston, so I will definately keep my eyes open . Fingers and toes crossed for a safe return...
  7. I'm not sure of this, but I think you might have been fortunate to get it through? My understanding is that it is illegal to send bloods via ordinary post and that to send it internationally you are supposed to make a declaration confirming it to be blood serum - this so that it does not get caught up with customs. What method of post did you use? I'd be a bit concerned that there'd be times when it was held up, and what would become of the blood serum in the meantime and whether it would be 'testable' when it got there, or possibly give false negatives?? (Don't know much if anything about that side of things.) Yep, on the Jean Dodds site, if gives you the declaration to put on the outside of the packaging for Customs. Jean Dodds provides very strict instructions for how to the blood just be taken, spun and packaged etc. Yep that was what I was about to sat too Sas, you beat me to it... When I sent my first bloods, about 8 months ago now, I questioned the transfering of the blood, via the mail, and Jean said that she had bloods coming in from all over the world everyday, and she had no problems with the Customs, PROVIDING you had the forms from her website easily accessible to the Customs guys in America :D
  8. Wow, you must have done it at a bad time. The last time I converted AUD - USD it was almost equal. ie $65 American would have equated to around $70 Australian. We are still currently sitting at around the 91c to the American dollar. It can take up to 3 months before any improvement is noticed when an allergen is removed (ie food soruce or whatever). The last girl we had on an elim diet took about 2 month beofre we noticed a big improvement. I would say we saw small noticeable changes within about 3 weeks (edited - meant to weeks, not months) Working out allergies takes patience and persistance. Oooooooops I buggered that up good and proper, didnt I :D . You are right Anne, it was only about $70 dollars, what I quoted up above was the total cost of the Vets, sending it etc etc.. Sorry
  9. Erny, Can I just correct you here :D . I have just sent my dogs blood to Hemopet/Hemolife for thyroid testing with Dr Jean Dodds... For the Thyroid 5 panel, (I think thats what it is called, its on the website anyway...), it was $65 American dollars, which translated to about $120 Aussie dollars, all up. Of course you then have to add on the Vets consult fee, for taking the blood. I then went and posted the blood myself to America, and had the results back, (after a bit of a mix up), in about 10 days . No International Courier fee anymore .
  10. I think that was on pay TV just a week or two ago, and it was a real eye-opener... Very sad actually ...
  11. Yep I can vouch for these too . This time I prolly could wear them, but the problem is Im not showing anything anymore :D
  12. I want those shoes! They'd look fabo with the suit I purchased from Sway!! Sorry Ellz, they are loooooong gone now!! Does no-one else think they look like shoes that a character from a Brothers Grimm fairytale might wear? The whole big buckle thing? :D Anyhoo, I loved them at the time and did literally wear them till they fell to pieces :D *sings* "Everything old is new again........" Nope, I really do like them. I had an EXCELLENT find at an op shop the other weekend.....Rajacadoo-doo-doo, Tassie and I think Maxbox saw them. A pair of brand new, patent black Kumpfs. Flat with a strap and a small buckle on the side. SUPER comfy and for 50 cents I just couldn't say no. They'd never even been worn from the looks of them. Considering they're usually up in the high $80s to purchase new, I think I got a bargain! I can vouch for the shoes... If only I was the same size, and somehow between Mr R and the 2 Miss R's, Id be stealing them off you
  13. From a fellow ACD lover and exhibitor, "Thanks" for all the work you do, especially for this boy. I have been thinking about him, and while he does look somewhat familiar, I couldnt place him in a particular kennel... Sorry, I did try ;) . Heres hoping he will find a lovely home, after he is desexed, with fences ;) ...
  14. Costa's Mum, I promise I will get some pics of him up, in the next few days . Im afraid Im a bit puter illiterate, and Mr Rajacadoo is working long hours, but it will be done by the end of the week .
  15. Glad you decided to join in Rajacadoo, look forward to seeing cattle pup pics :D I've had cuddles with rajacadoo's new baby - absolutely to die for puppy - lovely cuddles - confident but not in your face. I did try to kidnap him, but no luck. :D Thanks Tassie... He is a bit of a spunky bum isnt he... Poor little man is trying so hard to get Miss "Stuck Up Vanda" to play with him, but so far no luck ;) Shes a funny little poppet, happy to play with adults, (just like Rory at show training the other night ), but doesnt want a bar of puppies ;)
  16. Thanks flatchat... A bit far for second daily Prog testing, etc methinks Anyone ???
  17. tarakay, do you know who the ACD was on Sat, please ???
  18. Just wondering if Tassie peeps could give me their opinions on Repro Vets in Hobart for fresh chilled semen ??? This is a whole new world for me
  19. Ive been quietly lurking in the background, and I have finally become brave enough to post here We have just welcomed our new little bundle of joy, into our home... He is a Cattle Dog, and joins our 2 older ACD's, Yana and Clancy, (both retired from the ring, and breeding), and our 3 Basenji's, Saba, Ochre and Vanda. So the numbers of ACD v's Basenji's, is now even !!! He is 8 1/2 weeks old, and came to us from Victoria. Since the naming of the above 2 'oldies', we have somehow ended up with a food theme, in the ACD's names. So he isnt named as yet, Mr R is still trying to pick his favourite from the short list of 2 :D . Waiting, waiting, waiting !!! We have had few accidents in the house, but they are completely human errors... We had a really good night with him last night. Put to bed in the crate, a couple of little whinges, then asleep till 4.30am when he woke me, took him out for the longest wee an 8 and a half week old little baby could ever, ever do ;) . Back to bed, just a couple of whinges, then asleep till the alarm went off... Very happy with that :D Just hoping it continues . Pics soon...
  20. Ok, now Im really confuddled :D (Not that that is hard to believe ... What has happened to Bad Alice ??? I would love to see Roo in the ring, she really did look VERY promising when we last saw her, love to see her again . The more the merrier :D . Tassie, glad that you will be at show training, and thanks for the confirmation, I thought it was on, but didnt want to drive all the way in to find Ive got the wrong day :D Poor widdle man doesnt even have a name yet, (Richard is naming him, and he has a short list of about 10 names, then a short-short list of about 5, and we have just got down to the short-short-short list of 2 ) !!! Had his first training session, and he was really good. He took a while to get the gist of heel, but as soon as he 'got' it... Off he went ;) Clever little 'eeler he is ;) ;)
  21. Well the VERY slack rajacadoo has just realised that I didnt add anything to this thread They be very nice piccies of Miss R, playing with the 'o so cute' Staffords, and being eaten alive by them Ive told Mr R he isnt allowd to join forces with Mr Ellz, cos... Just cos Fank you Ellz for de nice comments on the Miss O and Miss I... They did enjoy the day too, and are really loving being able to show whoever needs to be, whenever... Miss I 'ticked' me off when she had finished grooming Malice, and I came over to give Malice a cuddle ... Miss I wasnt pleased that she had to rebrush her, cos I 'ruined' her !!! Cheeky widdle sod ;) Tassie you are so right I think the Stafford bubbies need to get out more for socialisation... They just wont 'cut it' with the shows if they arent given more people time . Yep I love the pics too, they are gorgeous... Really looking forward to the 20th, cos there will be another new baby out and about, getting ready for the ring, AND, another dog, in another group, to be juggling ;) ... Question time... Does anyone know if puppy training is on this WED, and is it 6.30-7.30 ???
  22. Anyone can have more than one prefix, you are not allowed to have more than one prefix for the same breed with the same owners. eg. if prefix "Smith" has A Jones and B Jones as members for Golden Retrievers then prefix "Smitha" can not be owned by A Jones and B Jones as members for Golden Retrievers. But if it is owned by A Jones, B Jones and C Jones as members for Golden Retrievers then it would be allowable. I am so glad you answered this wayrod, as I have just sent off my application for a new prefix for our Basenji's . We already have RAJACADOO for the ACD's, but as that has special meaning only to the ACD's, I didnt want to use it for the Basenji's . Both prefix's will be in both my hubby and my names, too...
  23. Oh dear, looks like Miss O is gunna have some fun with those 2... Either way, sounds like she is going to have her hands full, just like you will with the other one :D ;) . Fun times ahead, mefinks They are getting there, slowly but surely, and I think every time they step into the ring, they learn just a little bit more, too . They already are WAY ahead of their mothers skill, thats for sure, but Im happy they are :D
  24. Ohhhhh shucks, I be all embarrased now I think that Miss I did a good job, considering she has only been in the ring about 12 months, too... They both LOVE showing, and so much enjoy it when people ask them to help handle. Phillippa has been REALLY great to them, with letting them show the dogs, but also giving them both tons of tips on how they can do it better, or even differently. She has been wonderful Ellz has also been fantastic with them. She too is happy to hand over her dogs, and has great ideas to share with them, so HUGE to her too. I think they are doing a great job with the Basenji's, and both the B's are at times a real PITA to show, in fact not just sometimes, more like ALWAYS... Poor Miss I had a really tough time with Vanda on the weekend, (she was in season, so I guess I have to make some allowances, or should that be excuses !!!), but she managed to keep both of themselves together enough... Just . So Tassie, I would also like to say a great big HUGE thank you, to you, on behalf of Miss I, for allowing Miss I to show Rory, she really was tickled pink with the experience, and to be able to show in such a prestigious event as well . Im sure she will be more than happy to come to your rescue, ANY time you want her ;) .
