And The Tassie Dolers Came Out To Play With......
rajacadoo replied to ellz's topic in General Dog Discussion
It was great to meet you to PD888 . Twas a nice little chat that we did have, wasnt it ??? Hope your bag turns up soon, what a PITA, and annoying too. Need to know about Austin Powers in the knicker isle . Anyone care to enlighten me, and embarrass him at the same time ;) ;) I would wait officially to put up Hounders pics, when she bothers to get her butt in here to have her BRAG Beautiful pics you got of Roger PD888, they are gorgeous, especially his head shot... Yummy... Ellz you must be soooo pleased with them ??? JSK, I think its just about a tie, between WA or QLD... Im surprised that Tassie is ahead of 2 states, in the supermarket opening hours ;) -
We re just back from the Vets, and we have baby Basenji's due around 26th June

Thanks everyone for your replies, I really appreciate it... Just to clarify, this is a maiden bitch, the mating was a natural, not AI. Her dam is carrying quite big litters to term, she is a wonderful free whelper, too . (Hope I havent jinxed myself there :D ). Icemist that is a very interesting example you gave with your bitch, especially to do with the bitches being AI'd possibly being a factor. Another thing for me to do some research on ;) ... Thanks for giving me the 'magical number' to keep an eye on. Im sure the Vet will know, but just in case... I really dont have anything that I im worried about, I guess Im just wanting to rule out all possible 'things' to do with losing the litter... I sometimes wonder if the more info you have, the more paranoid you become !!! tashnchief thanks for the story, glad that you also had a positive outcome, too. Aziah, I know its probably overkill, I just thought I would get it done, just to see. I guess if there is going to be a problem, I will be very glad I did. If there isnt an issue, then whats a few more dollars in the poor Vet's pocket :p ...

I have tried to google this, but google isnt my friend today I was talking to the Frozen Puppies people about lots of stuff, and mentioned doing an U/S on my bitch, (which is booked in for next Monday ), a few weeks ago and they suggested having a prog test done at the same time, (providing she is in whelp, of course)... Apparently, according to this guy, bitches prog level at this stage should be at the level of ? to maintain the pregnancy. He said that bitches that reabsorb their pups, is often done because of the prog level dropping to a level where pregnancy isnt viable anymore. This was said during a long conversation, and until last week I had forgotten about it. I didnt ask any other details, at the time, and Im hoping someone can give me an idea on what 'magic number' I am wanting her to be, to maintain pregnancy ???

Finally got to book my girl in for her U/S, next Monday at 0930hrs . Longest 4 weeks of my life ...
-
Thanks Stolzeinrotts, I guess that is exactly what I was wanting to hear . This bitch is not getting bones, yoghurt etc, etc, eveyday, but, I have upped these things from what she normally gets, and it just occured to me that I may need to cut back on them, so its good to know I can keep going :D
-
Thanks guys for the responses... I thought it was ok, then a little doubt crept into my mind, so then you start to second guess yourself Just so much easier to actually ask ...
-
BONDAGED................................................... But what do you mean ??? ;) Thoughts are very much with you, its just sooooooooo not fair
-
I just wanted to ask if in my muddled mind, I have this right Is it ok to be feeding my nearly 3 week in whelp, (fingers crossed), young lady natural calcium, found in bones etc, on a daily basis ??? Not talking about calcium supps, just natural forms of calcium :D

Personally I would prefer email as the first line of communication. I believe that you can get a pretty good idea of a person's seriousness from emails, but as time gets closer to deciding on the future owners of my pups, I want phone communication. That will tell me even more :D

Hi Allerzeit, Another one to put on your "Dont even bother to try" list is Kingborough Council, just south of Hobart. My hubby and I had a long and drawn out battle with those bas%&rds, and eventually threw the towel in, (due to the rapidly rising costs) . We now live in the Huonville Council for the last 9-10 years, and have had no problems with them at all. They do a yearly inspection of our kennel block, and that is it. So long as we do the right thing by them, they leave us alone. We are on 13 acres, no close neighbours, and everyone in our area has our name and number, and if there is a problem with the dogs, we have asked them to contact us first. We have had one phone call, not even a complaint, and it was sorted out in a 5 min phone call ... Good luck with the sale of your home, and I hope you find the property of your dreams, and love the state as much as most of us 'mainlanders' do ...

What Is Involved In A Thyroid Test?
rajacadoo replied to cannibalgoldfish's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I rang Australia Post today to confirm the above. I am informed that they will NOT agree to transport dog blood serum to the USA. They have a "No Animal Product" policy (I don't know the exact wording - the guy at Aussie Post read it out to me). Well things must work differently down here, as I WAS able to post it, from the PO. It was documented that it was Canine Blood/Products, and I specifically told them, (this is 2 different PO's in Hobart), and they didnt bat an eye at that -
Fingers crossed Basenji's due 26th June EDT To correct the dates

The best piece of advice I was given, was...It can/will work, for as long as it does

I need to let go, I need to let go, I need to let go Do you think if I keep chanting this over and over again, it will sink in Nope, me either :D

Mmmmmm just trying to get my oldfashioned head around the idea of NOT giving puppy food to her at all So widdle Wog and fabulous Fwame had Mummy Koda on Adult food all through her pregnancy ??? I did forget to add that I do give them all the 'added extras' every night, sadines, chicken frames, (Ive just started to give them that, and the pure joy on their faces when they see the frames coming to them ), wings, RMB leftovers, etc, etc :D

I had my last litter of ACD's, about 6 years ago, and at that time, as soon as the mating had taken place, I put my bitches on Puppy food. They had that all through the pregnancy and until the pups were weaned. I am now about to have another litter, this time a Basenji litter, and I was thinking about this the other day... I am a creature of habit, and I feel I 'should' do it this way, BUT Im just wondering what the general thoughts are of breeders ??? Puppy food, or keep the bitch on her nomal adult food ???

Funny that this topic has come up, as most of the Tassie listers know that this is a real bugbear of mine at the moment . Im really sick of judges, who wont give you the time to set up your dog. Down here we have a max of 400ish dogs at each show, (and often even less) and usually, (not always, though), 3 or 4 judges. There are no real time constraints on them, compared to numbers of dogs being judged in other states... I have a tabled dog, and Im sorry, BUT, what I have found is that the tabled dogs are pounced on, LONG before the dogs are even remotely stacked. Many, many times recently, the dog is barely on the table, before the judge is already looking at teeth. No feet have even had a chance of being set up. Infuriating . The first impression my judge has of my dog, is with legs all over the place, topline gone etc, etc... A recent classic example of this was showing at a Royal, and the O/S judge was sitting ON the table. Yes, on it. As I ran up to the table, I stupidly assumed he would move his toosh, but, NO, he didnt at all . I stood there with my Baby bitch in my arms, at her first show ever, waiting for him to move... He then pointed to the table, meaning, 'put your dog there, so I can examine her please" , He had no English, so all his requests were done with a pointed finger. He actually examined her while continuing to sit on the table. I certainly wasnt the only one, nor the only breed that he did that to, either... Im sorry I find that sort of behavior totally unacceptable. I wonder what would happen, if any Aussie judge did that, what would happen/be said/action taken/walkout of exibitors etc. Extra allowances being made for the O/S judges methinks. I nearly withdrew my dogs, but decided to give them the chance. They were all fine, if not a touch bemused... While I am in a 'picking on judges' mood, another gripe of mine, is judges, usually the older ones with declining mobility, (no, Im not bitching about our older generation), who seem to think its a good idea to straddle some breeds of working dogs, whilst assessing their fronts. yep, straddling them... Couldnt believe that one, and it happened at 2 shows in very short amount of time ,too. Methinks they might just lose some goolies, if that continues on . Rant over and flame gear on .

What Is Involved In A Thyroid Test?
rajacadoo replied to cannibalgoldfish's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yes, she is, I've spoken to her before on the subject of allergies and vaccinations. Very helpful and knowledgeable person We didn't go any further with finding out about thyroid testing here, as it wasn't really appropriate in our case in the end, so just got the "yes, you can" but not into how much it might cost etc. The cost that was quoted to me, was real heart attack stuff... Was thinking I needed to refinance the house/mortgage to get my 3 dogs thyroids tested ;) -

Thank you - I'll check up on her latest info. It would be great if the International Courier isn't necessary. But I presume you would still need to declare to Customs? ETA: The other thing that I like with Dr Jean Dodds testing is their analysis base. They take into account not only whether the dog is small, medium or large, but also what breed it is and what age the dog is. Out here I believe the analysis is simply based on small, medium or large dog. Yes, still need to declare to Customs, but you have the paperwork for them on the outside of the package, clearly visible, and they appear to be happy with that. I also found that the PO was knowledgable on the whole process as well... Yep Dr Dodds, wants to know the breed of the dogs, and as I have sighthounds, she even has slightly different values for them too. She is a very knowledgable lady with huge interest in educating anyone who is interested :D ...
