  9. S'cuse me, but 3 Basenji's, do you have something you need to tell me
  10. You know I've had a thought... Maybe, just maybe, DogsQld, (or CCCQ), might be on the right track... Perhaps they are thinking that all the 'dodgy' breeders will join the new 'forward-thinking' Accreditation System, leaving all the 'ethical' breeders out of this scheme, with just the normal registration Just saying...
  11. Thank you to both Laneka and Andisa for your info. Andisa the pics from your website is great, easily explained and to see the food all laid out, then info on how much for each breed, is really great... Same with Laneka's info and pics... Off to do some more research :D ...
  12. Yes this is the problem that I have with Sasha too! Empty tummy episodes. If we don't feed her regularly, she will vomit bile. Usually you know it's coming when the tummy is making horrendous noises. At these times, I have to hand feed her to make sure her tummy is filled a little (even though she doesn't want to eat and probably doesn't feel like eating), and then she is 100% back to normal. I thought I was the only one with such a strange dog!!! :D No your not the only one... My guys are really shocking with the 'bile before eating vomits' !!! Mine dont have the grumbling tummy though, at least not that I have heard, it just happens... Basenjis are a very 'spethal' breed, full of quirks, some being very trying, some very endearing
  13. Lol .... you mean my "Calendula Tea" one? Completely OT, i know, my apologies to the OP , BUT, just yesterday I had advised one of my puppy buyers to use the Calendula Tea, as her pup and reacted to something, and was completely miserable with lots of hives/scratching etc, etc. Ernie I think I had a smile on my face while I was explaining to her how to use it, thinking about you :
  14. Ive got 4 Basenji's and they are all serious graizers !!! They also have 2 different types of graizing, as Kelly_Louise said. The first is just slow and indiscriminate eating, the other is more of a serious chewing, quite a bit too. When they do that, I know they will vomit, definately. Some Basenji's having what is loosely descrbed as 'empty tummy' episodes. They really need to be fed as close to 12 hours apart, or else the bile vomit will appear... They are more than happy to have food as soon as they vomit !!! Being such a primitive breed, they do have some funny idiosyncrasies, and this is definately one of them
  15. Hi Allerzeit, I have used Graeme Moate who is the greyhound chiro man down in Hobart, ( I think !!!), with some success. Phone number is 6272 5493. He is at Glenorchy, just at the showgrounds... There is another guy up north, who the northern Tassie-ites swear by as well, but I dont have his details... Perhaps ask Ellz or maybe Tassie as well. They might know... OT completely ... I saw you at the last show, but everytime I was on my way to catch up, I got sidetracked, so very unususal for me
  16. Thank you soooooooo much Laneka, I really appreciate all the detail that you have posted ... I have photocopied this and it will sit in my bag, so that when the new freezer arrives, I will have my dogs food 'shopping list' all ready to go I am a bit of a Nazi about my dogs food intake and I watch them like a hawk, (in fact the B's are all on a diet, cos I did get a little slack over the Xmas/New Year period), so down goes the food intake, much to their disgust ... Thanks again, I appreciate the input .
  17. Laneka could I just ask a question or two or 10 ??? I believe you have 5 Rotties, and that much will do you for a month... Each of those containers would feed how many Rotties ??? Is the meat added into the container, or is it just the fruit and vegies in there ??? Im just trying to see what the containers would feed/night... I have 5 ACD's and 4 Basenji's that I would LOVE to feed the way you are. I need to get a decent freezer first though !!! To GoldenGirl85, sorry to highjack your thread ...
  18. I would just about bet my house on the fact this dog didnt see Dr Ward, (Oooops I did forget about her :D ).... Yep completely agree this dog could have been wrongly prescribed. Im sure 'zonking' the dog wasnt the intended treatment for this boy.............. Then again maybe it was ... Tis all ok ...
  19. Aiden2.. Im only reporting what I had been told about this dog and the meds he was prescribed, by the owner... The dog had the edge taken off him, but he was still able to spin, catch and/or chase his tail. I dont know the Vets involved in this dogs case, whether just a 'GP-type' Vet, or a Vet Behaviorist, (but suspect that here in Hobart, there arent many of them ). I also have no idea if a behavior modification programme was set up for this boy either... And if it was, dont know if it was followed :D ... And yes it is good to read other peoples experiences with what happened, (as the OP wanted), but this particular dog needs to be assessed and treated, if necessary, on its own merits...
  20. I walk her as often as I can, usually around 40 minutes most days, the the shops and back or just around the streets. but I guess maybe she needs more than that? Once school starts back up she will walk with me to take my daughter to school which is about 40 minutes there and back, twice a day. We take her out to the river a couple of times a week so she can run around. We have a reasonably large yard where she runs around with the kids most of the day. She has a soccer ball that she loves to chase so most evenings we go out and kick it around the yard to each other while she is "piggy in the middle" she seems to love that. She has to live outside (landlord's rules) but we spend a lot of time outside on the verandah, which is where she mostly lives/sleeps. I am a stay at home mum, so she's never home alone for long. As for the ecollar, the one we originally had was given to us by the vet, she said it was the correct size for her. But we found she could reach the tip of her tail if she tried hard enough so I went back and asked for the next size up. It does go a few cm past her nose but a couple of times I have caught her with it pushed flat against the ground, holding her tail down and she can just reach the end. She has a bucket to drink out of and can easily do so with the colar on. She can eat out of her bowl with it on too but I take the collar off to feed her. I've never been told they shouldn't have them on while unsupervised? but when she's unsupervised is the time she really needs it on :-\ Anyway I will see what the vet says this afternoon. Thanks again for all your replies Sorry melz85, I havent been back into this thread till now... On my boy the healing was pretty quick if I remember correctly, no issues with it at all. He still did the spinning, but thankfully, he never bit at any other parts of the body. The second dog I mentioned, did not heal as well, because he tended to get the bandages off all the time, managing to bump it on anything at all, and it took a long while to heal properly... At this stage he is ok though. Yes she did try the mind drugs on him, prior to having the tail amputated, with absolutely no effect at all. The meds 'zonked' him a bit, but still he would spin staggering around, sometimes getting his tail, othertimes missing it altogether... Cut a promising show career completely... Good luck I hope things improve. Some very good advice Im taking in for my boy too...
  21. When you get her, can I just stress SOCIALISATION, SOCIALISATION, SOCIALIASATION . Then just when you feel confident in the amount of socialisation you have done, do it all over again Good luck I hope you get her, and I hope you have some fun in the ring with her too
  22. From some research I have done, I believe that ACD's and I think Bull Terriers, (dont quote me on this breed though), are prone to this tail chasing behavior... I have had ACD's since 1989 and I have had one dog who mutilated his tail by constantly chasing/biting it. I tried numerous things, (but as this was roughly the early 90's, there wasnt a lot of things to do, for him), without success. Eventually I had his tail removed altogether. He never tried to bite at any other parts of his body. I have a friend who has an ACD, who has also just recently had his tail removed as well. This boy is about 3 years old. They tried all sorts of things with him as well, with no success... Now I have a young nearly 13 month old boy, who is just beginning to do it as well . Not at all related to the previous dog of mine, or the dog above... Just about to launch into some medical/behavioral things with him, before it becomes a bigger issue... I hope you get some answers for your dog :-)...
  23. Then why dont you do the right thing by the dog and find the dog a new home ... There is Basenji Rescue in both NSW and Vic, and I would be happy to give you the details, when you decide that this poor dog should be in a home, where he/she is able to be loved and appreciated for what he/she is . Do the right thing...
  24. Spoke to Josuki, (AKA JSK), this am, she is ok, still at the Evac centre
