cheap not kidding its great pity its so far away or I would snap it up!

I recommend the crate 100%. It made house training a breeze and I can crate him when I need to leave the house for short periods of time and i know he is safe.

When Bailey gets desexed at 6 months he will also have his dew claws removed and the vet wants to tattoo his nose. I have never heard of this before. It it safe? Will it hurt him (I know he will be under when he gets it done but I mean afterwards) what will stop him licking it and making in become a sore? Thanks in advance

The food they sell natural balance, is it any good? -
Bailey has a crate as well. To make it smaller for house training we put a pillow in the back. This has worked a treat. I really recommend crate training.

Bailey was much easier than I expected to house train. I think a lot had to do with my trainer giving me advice before I got him on how to program from the moment he got home so I didn't have to break habits that were formed. And I think it has to do with crate training. Bailey came home at 8 weeks and has only had 2 accidents inside. Both were my fault and he is now 13 weeks.

ditto what everyone else has said. With Bailey if he jumps up I don't give him any attention but then when he sits I give him praise and pop him on my lap (which is what he wants) He has learnt if he wants my attention he needs to sit at my feet. By the way you pup is so young, I can't believe you would think of rehomeing it because it jumps up. Of all the problems you could have this seems rather mild and easily correctable with a little of your time and some training. Its not very fair to the dog to be thinking of turfing him out because of something which is natural puppy behavour. What did you think you would get when you got a puppy?

Your babies are all beautiful! I love Cav's. I always new one day I would have one. I waited forever to get one. I waited until I was finished having children. I waited till I knew I could afford to do everything right with training and health care. And now I finally have him and love him to pieces!!!

Now I am glad I have decided to get Bailey's microchipping done while he is under getting desexed!!!

I have a almost 12 week old CKCS. (would love to see photos of your little one) Bailey is an inside dog. This breed do not do well as outside dogs. They become ratty and feral if left outside. I think you need to avoid this at all costs. At 12 weeks old Bailey is house trained. He has had one accident in 4 weeks. This accident was my fault. I used the same method as Ellz has recommended. Every half hour I would take him outside and stay with him. No funny business. Then it was after every event. He sleeps and then out, he eats and then out, he has a drink and then out, and he plays and then out. This has worked fantastically for us. For anytime I am not watching him he is crated. Now I only need to crate at night and when I am leaving the house (and then only for short periods of time). I know its going to be much harder with both of you working. But a puppy pen I think is the best idea, just remember it does take longer to house train using the method of leaving paper down while away but its better than having him shut outside all day. When leaving the house contain pup in the pen with fresh paper all around (as he gets used to using the paper while in the pen you can make the papered area smaller). As soon as you get home or your OH comes home from lunch take him out for a toilet break and change his paper. But while home always take him out. He will get it eventually. And remember anytime you can't watch him 100% you should contain him, either crate or pen.

No chance she has a bit of an ouch somewhere?

This is what we do..... Bailey goes outside for a potty break at around 9.30 then into his crate. He may carry on a little bit but not normally. If he crys at night I take him out of the crate. I carry him. I take him straight outside. I give him 10mins (he has normally gone and done his business in just a minute or two and as soon as he has its back inside into the crate). After 10mins I bring him back inside and put him in his crate. We don't feed or water him at night after he has gone to bed. We don't play or talk with him except to give him his command to go potty and some well dones if he goes. At night it is really low key. Everything kept quiet and dark. It doesn't matter how many times Bailey gets me up we take him outside and then back in the crate. He will soon learn that he has 10 mins potty time only if he crys and will start sleeping through.

Sounds like my Bailey!

Puppies can go down hill very fast when they have diahorrea. I would keep her well hydrated and get her to her vet asap!

What Are The Big No-no's For Feeding To Dogs?
vanessa0305 replied to Isabel964's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Can I ask about the liver? Why is it bad to give pups liver? I use 100% dried or baked liver as our training treat. I have heard that if they have too much liver it can give the squirts, but I don't feed it as a meal. Is this the only reason liver would be a no no? -
Do you have your own back yard? Could you build him a run?

I have read this post so many times and tried to think of what to say. All I can say is I am so sorry for your lost my heart aches at the thought of what your going through.

I went and saw my dog trainer before bring Bailey home. She gave me fantastic advice and got me sorted out with what to do to get him toilet trained. In the just over a week we have had him he has only has one accident inside which was not his fault (he said he had to go out but I was on the loo and couldn't get to him in time) He is crate trained at night and only barks if he has to go out. He has had his first visit with the trainer and we have started training to sit. I certainly don't have puupy blues, I think I am having the best time ever and I know bailey is going to be a mate for his life. But I think being very well prepared before hand. Knowing I was going to and how to crate train and knowing to start house training the minute he comes home before he even comes inside really made the difference to us.

Heartworm Needle / Should L Get Pup Done?
vanessa0305 replied to archie's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Well I am glad I asked that question or otherwise I would never have know. Thank you! -
I am not sure, but we feed bailey around the same time. After he has his meal (about 1/2hr later) he has his big drink and we lift his bowl up. But I would check with someone who knows more than me. I was just saying what my trainer told me, I always refer back to her when not sure on something.

Can I ask why? -
I take Bailey out even though he has only had his one shot because he needs to be socialised before 16 weeks. I would rather have a well socialised dog that god forbid gets sick then a completely nerotic dog that hasn't been socialised as a puppy. Having said that I don't do anything stupid. He doesn't go near dogs I don't know are healthy and fully vacced. We don't go to parks or anywhere that stray dogs could have been. We walk our street but I know that there are no other dogs (or houses) in our area. And I take him to our trainer who only trains us indoors to limit his exposure to any diseases.
-
He will eventually be able to hold it. But cavNrott is right , be glad he wakes you to go. My doggy trainer told me to put up Baileys water at 6pmish. Bailey is only 9-10weeks old and is waking once a night too. But I would rather he woke me to go out then have to clean up the mess in the morning!!

opps sorry about the gender mix up. I guess I say boy automatically because I think of pups in terms of Bailey! Oh the poor baby. Thats awful. No wonder she was letting you know. But at least you can be sure now that if she is squealing something is up!
