Small amount of quitling advice Can I suggest that you wash your fabric before you make your squares rather than after - otherwise you may end up with different sized squares due to shrinkage. Use only cotten fabrics: Spotlight, lincraft and quilting stores all sell fabric specifically for quilting If you are going to get your quilt proffessionally quilted on a long arm quiting machine (probably a good idea if it turns our to be bigger than double bed size) then backing and wadding can often be purchased from the quilter as there needs to be quite a lot of extra around the edges to fit the machine.

Women Injured And Animals Killed In Overnight Fires (caboolture Qld)
frufru replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
Just popped in to check on Jed and her babies (as most of us do several times a day). Haven't posted until today as there are no words to express the sorrow one feels for another in such circumstances. Sending a prayer for Jed, her family, her animals and all those involved. -
Lamb Flaps From The Fresh Meat Store
frufru replied to Clyde's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
You guys with axes sound really dangerous!. Are you sure you have lamb flaps and not beef???? If they are lamb you can cut them easily with kitchen scissors between the ribs (as already suggested) and the bottom bit is very soft - if you need the halve the rib ie cut through the bone) a good wack with a meat cleaver will do it. I feed lamb flaps a lot and trim the fat off with a sharp knife - I would never feed all that fat to a dog. Yes lamb flap is lamb ribs. -
Help! Andy's Pee'd On The Bed... Twice!
frufru replied to westiemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Crate him when you cannot supervise including overnight Close all doors to bedrooms etc teach him to toilet on command and get into a routine of taking him out several times per day to toilet - don't let him back in until he has toileted. You have to be with him so that you can add a command and reward. -
A Small Tiff In The Off-leash Park

I wouldn't be happy for your boisterous dog to approach mine in that manner - (I have one that weighs 30kg and a 7kg) if mine were leashed. -
Healing Vibes Needed For My Aunty's 2 Dogs (photo Update!)
frufru replied to lovemesideways's topic in General Dog Discussion
Those poor little dogs and their mum - minding their own business going for a walk and this is what happens - these dogs and their mum will carry this with them for the rest of their lives and it is not right!!!! -
I am lucky to have the luxury of only grooming dogs with nice manners (apart from rescues - who are generally very good) I do have the odd one who needs to wear a muzzle when nails are done. I would prefer they wear a muzzle and get it over with quickly and confidently.
-
Quite often a muzzle will not fit on shitie or lhasa and crosses thereof - no nose!!!! In addition to which at some stage the muzzle has got to be removed so the face can be groomed!!!!!

Actually he is a red toy poodle and a great time was had by all. The poodle Club of QLD are a small group and do this several times per year which is a great way to promote their breed.

Meet My Foster Girl .. And A Bit Of A Vent For Good Measure
frufru replied to yellowgirl's topic in General Dog Discussion
Good luck with this little girl and add my prayers that the former owner goes bald and falls of her platform and has to wear flip flops for the rest of her life!!!! My local rescue group worm, deflea, vaccinate and desex together out of necessity with no issues -
Big hugs to you Haven - that was indeed a very sad way for your dog to die - it is so awful when your dog needs help and you can't get it because the vets are too far away or unwilling to come out - glad you were finally able to end his suffering but what a terrible thing for you to go through.

I would have thought that given what these medications have to do in order to control seizures it is not really surprising that there are side effects (sadly they did for my grandmother when she started haveing seizures at about 80yrs - her mind was not as sharp) People don't give these meds because its an easy option. Corvus - what kind of investigation are you thinking needs to occur??????

My girls attacking Ace was something I did worry about and he was seperated from them when we went out. At the time we had 3 large dogs whom I walked together and Ace had several seizures while we were out walking - thankfully there were people around who came to help me (strangers) - I always had my phone with me to call for someone to come pick us up if we were any distance from home - nice when the dog is covered in slobber, faeces and urine. You poor thing Cowanbree - thankfully we had no stairs - Ace sometimes did the mad running before seizing - thankfully not while I was out - managing such a dog is not always easy.
-
Owning a dog who thankfully seems to have grown out of his seizure this is a question we did think about in the beginning. We also have friends whose dog started having seizures after she survived a brown snake bite - although medicated she actually died during a seizure less than 2 years after being bitten. When Ace started having seizures I was showing him for a breeder - as he was no longer useful to her we adopted him - I have a fair idea what would have happened to him otherwise. I don't think it is fair to answer this question for other people - everyone deals with illness/disabiltiy differently. For us we would pts in the following circumstanes - bearing in mind that Ace is a big dog at 30 kg who was somtimes aggressivess when recovering from a seizure. The seizures could not be controlled through medication and were frequent (Ace did not have a quick recovery from seizures and his body was sore for several days afterwards, his size also made things difficult sometimes) The medication started to cause liver failure Brain damage as a result of seizures made the dog physically difficult to handle -eg aggression towards people or our other dogs developed. Thankfully we did not have to face such a decision - but I would never presume to judge others who had.
-
My male dog had seizures about every 3 months over a 2 year period. They were not frequent enough to medicate and he has not had one now for 3 years - I am more relaxed now but it is always in the back of my mind that he could have another one so he never goes swimming without one of us in the water and is never boarded (it has been a long time since we had a holiday). Aces seizures were pretty full on and he would always urinate and defecate (even when he had just been to the toilet) and the drool was everywhere - he would sometimes be very unsettled for days - including howling. There is no test for idiopathic epilepsy - diagnosis is made by a process of elimination of other possible causes of the seizures

Have you considered seeing a neuroligist - perhaps this dog can't be "rewired" in some areas????
-
I don't have an issue with the dog being entire - I do have an issue with the indiscriminate breeding of pet dogs because they are cute or have a nice nature - go and volunteer at a shelter or do some foster caring and meet some dogs who are cute and have nice natures but who are unwanted through no fault of their own - the guy is a knob. I don't know what the answer is but giving encouragement to persons such as this is not the answer. ;)

Our beloved brown girl did horrendous farts before we figured out her food allergies - never a one after we changed her diet!

Thanks so much for starting the thread Monah - it is definitely part of our viewing week now - such a clever concept and well written and acted (love both ladies).

As a foster mum - I generally have no problem with dogs going to their new home with stitches. It is better for the dog to start their new life asap if they are fit and healthy - very few dogs/or bitches react to desexing in a negative way. New owners are given clear instructions and follow up Glad these dogs were surendered and can now go to forever homes - Kudos to Liza, Sue and co!!!!!

Don't panic Blue-Fox - same thing happened to a friends - you can get a replacement part from Clipperworld - give them a ring. Love my pink Arco

There is no excuse - I don't think these people should even get a warning - they all know they are supposed to pick up and choose not to. I say if they are caught - boot them. The world is not your toilet.

My small miniature poodles favourite toy is small latex squeaky toy and a ball which she is able to squish and squeak - she plays with the ball by herself (not sure what it is made from but quite sturdy as my standard poodle has not been able to destroy it - his favorite past-time)
