  1. Have to concur with the Lymphoma postings - we took our girl to the vet because she had developed a phobia - wouldn't cross tiled or wooded floors - a week later her lymph nodes came up
  2. Yes, the victim was fined and the attacker got off. Perhaps there was not enough evidence - who knows - what I don't like is the message implied in the "donation" to the rspca - he is clearly trying to trivialise a case concerning assault and domestic violence - makes you wonder!!!!!
  3. The woman was ordered to pay a fine (as the case was not decided in her favour) in the form of a donation to a charity and the magistrate named the charity as the RSPCA - the magistrate could have named a women's refuge (it would be appropriate to name a charity linked to the case area ) but he chose the RSPCA (the woman feels belittled by this order) - the magistrate described the alleged "brutal assault" as a family tiff. He sounds like an arse wipe!!!!! JMO
  4. Labsrule made an excellent offer which would be very beneficial for your friends!!!!! (p 4)
  5. As others have said - depends very much on the temperament of each girl, to some extent the breed and also your leadership. Our two standard poodles (one desexed and the other entire for half their lives) never had a harsh word let alone a fight. The older girl was VERY easy going and the second one more fiesty but very obedient and loving. They died within 2 days of each other at 11.5 and 13.5 years :D We are currently looking at adding a puppy to our mix of a standard male and mini girl and will choose very carefully in terms of temperament.
  6. My mini poo (7kg) had a similar reaction at the site of an antibiotic injection - nothing to worry about. She didn't have one when she was given her C3 6 months later.
  7. Interesting comments (I don't offer this service as part of grooming) but one of my customers take their mini poodle to the vet once per month to get his glands expressed - why - because they have always done it Vet is more than happy to perform this service. I personally only do them if there is a problem. One of our standards did have a problem until we got her food allergies sorted and then very rarely had to have them done. Funnily enough the standard who always had the hardest motions did get impacted gland twice during her lifetime and yes they always had plenty of bones in their diet and very little junk.
  8. Sounds like the crate being used to ship the dog was either not strong enough or not locked securely. Not much workers could do if they opened the cargo hold and the dog was already loose  Owners were lucky it was resuced.
  9. If the dog's bowl is removed and washed once the dog has finished eating why would it matter if your child touches it - personally I would put it away as it is not a toy but I still don't get the problem?
  10. So we are just suppossed to shrug our shoulders or not go outside our safe little yards I fail to see why malteseluna should somehow be painted as the bad guy because she owns a swf and sought to enjoy an outing with her family whilst on a weekend getway. Sorry but I will always expect manners from dogs and their owners and be dissappointed when they are not met. I don't go to of leash areas to meet other dogs - I go so mine can stretch their legs - I don't expect to be bothered by other peoples dogs unless I want to be. It is the height of bad manners to let your dog run up to people or other dogs without asking permission.
  11. Obviously bullies don't just exist in off lead dog parks. I am dissappointed that the original poster came here with a asking "what can I do" only to have several posters respond in a flipant manner while others derailed the topic to complain about swf - how rude!!!! I think it is a sad day for dogdom when someone with a dog they describe as well socialised and minding its own business is unable to be taken for an outing to an offleash park or beach. Thank you to the people who offered support an ideas to malteseluna. I don't think you were over reacting or overprotective - I don't see why your dog should be "herded" or subject to any other behaviours that you are not comfortable with just because you are in an off leash area.
  12. Having fostered several lhasa and shih and crosses there of I would not describe them as quiet - 2 up the road are hideous barkers (and no they are not left in their yard all day)
  13. Wow, fairly spectacular anal gland infection ewwwww
  14. If she changed "overnight" then it is not due to the changes in hormones. julzjc - I would be back to the vet to discuss this. See lots of desexed boys and girls due to fostering - and no agression - some are irritated by the stitches and soreness associated with an operation but this quickly dissappears. One gorgeous boy I had who came into care because he had started to be snappy and was humping everything in sight - stopped this behaviour within 2 weeks. My own girl was certainly more even tempered once she was desexed (at over 4 yrs after she retired from showing) before that I would have said she had mood swings (pmt LOL) My male dog (desexed at 6) became less interested in smells and has much bette focus.
  15. You need to go back to the vet! At this point whatever is causing the scratching is not going to disappear overnight and if the dog is bleeding from the scratching this creates the potential for infection. If it is just fleas and you put them on Comfortis - they may still need cortisone to break the scratching cycle (this has been the case for several of my fosters as the irritation from fleas continues even after they have dissappeared - these were dogs who were making themselves bleed) Several of my grooming customers who have had long term flea problems have switched to Comfortis with excellent results (my guess would be that we have widespread resistance to existing chemicals in the flea population - much like you get with worms in cattle) Whilst the calendula tea did sooth for one of my customers they needed veterinary intervention to deal with infection (dog is now also on an elimination diet to see if there are food allergy and Comfortis for the fleas) If your dog has food allergies it will still have reactions if you switch to Barf - you must identify what the dog is allergic to!!!!
  16. Thanks Westielover! My clippers arrived today and I only ordered them yesterday!!!!! Awsome!!!!!!
  17. Well, I decided to take a punt and ordered today. They were superquick processed the order and posted today- all with plenty of email aknowledgements - I will update when the clippers arrive. Funnly enough I got my Dogs NSW Journal today and there was an advert by this company in there. The clippers were at least $30 cheaper than I found elsewhere.
  18. Yep, unless thunder and lightening - if it is bucketing we wait for a break or go shorter with raincoats on and a good towel and or blow dry when we get back!
  19. Hi All, I am looking at purchasing some clippers from Pampered Paws and wondered if anyone has had any dealings with them - I found them on the web so just thought I would do some checking before I parted with my hard earned cash LOL.
  20. Excellent news!!! Babies on the mend and moronic owner and dog located - hope they get the book thrown at them!!!
  21. So glad to hear that Jed is making some progress - it will be a long road and not always easy.
  22. Ok, so we are going with 61/2 inch squares which can be embroidered or just plain material with an appropriate message/sentiment. Can we pin the contact details of where they need to be sent etc???
  23. I use Biogroom Super Creme conditioner as a leave in conditioner and OMG spray everytime I brush my black miniature poodle.
  24. Gorgeous little fellow!!! Hopefully everyone will get a good nights sleep tonight
