  1. Googling is a good idea!!!! Face book etc. I thought that the electoral rolls were open to the public???? Obviously you have tried the phone book. Hugs to you and your boy and good luck with your quest.
  2. Oster and I buy them from Petedge in the USA (they usually have some sort of deal going). I use the Oster blades with my Wahl and Heineiger clippers.
  3. The play dates sound like and excellent idea - it will give the family time to really think about what having Banshee and her issues really means. I can think of two cases of dogs with issues which have gone to lovely people - but they hadn't really understood what having a dog with issues would be like for the long term - all the work and angst - to some degree they regret taking the dogs. Definitely stipulate that she is to come back to you if they can't keep her.
  4. I find the Doggyman the softest and I have used Lawrence, Gripsoft (the soft and hard) and Les Pooches.
  5. Having has many foster dogs and a couple of dogs that have come in as adults myself I find that they are very quiet for the first 3 days or so - really follow you about and don't say boo - then they start to settle in. Once they have been with you for a couple of weeks the real personality emerges and after several months you can see them finally accept where they are as home. JMO Any new dog that comes into our house: permanent resident, visitor or foster is crated at night until the pack and toilet training situation is sorted - this varies from dog to dog. You cannot toilet train a dog that has free run of the house be it a puppy or an older dog requiring training.
  6. This is my take on coats as both a poodle exhibitor and groomer A poodles coat should be profuse and dense - it should not be silky and soft I actually find the harsh coat that does not have a lot of the cotton woolly undercoat much easier to maintain The softer coats look wonderful and plush when they are scissored up (require a mountain of hairspray if you are showing compared to ther harsher coats) I find these coats do matt and require a lot more attention. Anything that is cotton woolly matts like crazy and requires constant brushing and combing. An experienced breeder (particularly one who shows) will be able to give you a very good indication of what the puppies coat wil be like JMO
  7. So glad your situation resolved - we just had our 12 week old standard poodles baby canines removed (bottom) as they were piercing the roof of her mouth and causing significant pain - she is a different dog with them gone - wish we had done it 2 weeks earlier. Fingers now crossed for adult teeth. Her Babies failed to rotate and move into the correct position.
  8. It would take 2 seconds to type it on a computer and run a spell checker over it!
  9. Exactly - when we first started using the puppy pen I didnt' even leave the room and rewarded the puppy for being quiet - then when she was comfortable with this I walked out of her sight and then straight back in so that she gets the idea she can't see me but it is no biggy and then I increase the amount of time she can't see me - now a couple of weeks down the track we can be gone for several hours and she is fine. We also feed her in her pen as it is next to the kitchen - now she goes an stands next to the pen when I am preparing her food - so cute.
  10. Maia, I actually think that if your puppy has been asleep all night and wakes at 5 or 6am then it is time to get up and do some playing, training and running around in the back yard. I would expect an elderly dog to come back in after a wee and go back to sleep but not a puppy. JMO We have a 13 week old standard poodle puppy who is crated at night and also penned occassionally during the day - we make sure that she has plenty of activity before we put her in the pen - that way she is happy to have a nap and or munch on a pigs ear etc
  11. In an emergency you need to get to your vet asap so I would try those closest to you first. For difficult problems (god forbid they arise) you might want to see specialists or another vet. JMO
  12. Ummm, thats why they call it a DINING room :dancingelephant: Once you have wicked and blotted can I suggest sprinkling a large amound (whole box) by the sound of it of Bi Carb Soda on the stain - this will absord both the stain and the odur - once it is dry you can sweep up most of it with a dustpan and then give a good hoover.
  13. The police in my area already have too much to do!!! Not a solution JMO I thougth the article was very worthwhile.
  14. Poodles should not be shy or timid - person obviously knew nothing about poodles. However, since most people who produce crossbreds have their parent stock from dubious sources - the parents of your puppy were probably not good examples of either breed which probably has more to do with any timidity or shyness. My 10 week old poodle puppy thinks people are absolutley fabulous - if she wagged her tail any harder it would fall off LOL
  15. Totally off topic - gecko set me off on a tangent LOL Honestly, we are getting soooo many rules about ridiculous things - it really pppps me off!! But the 'a' holes who live next door to us can swear (like you wouldn't believe) and have domestics on a regular basis some of which the police attend and NOTHING happens to them. ;) Which brings me to my next gripe - pimply youths with foul mouths - I get told off for having a puppy in Bunnings but the language ones hears is unbelievable - grumpy old woman over and out LOL
  16. I got told off in Bunnings the other day because I was carrying my 10 week old poodle puppy - We had taken her for a car trip and I had gone in to look at a shed hubby was thinking about purchasing. She lay quietly in my arms and I was in there all of five mins. Apparently it is an Occupational Health and Safety issue - but dodging kids who are playing chasies and hide and go seek isn't We bought our shed off the internet !!!!!
  17. Is epilepsy seen in this variety of Belgians???? If so, breeding from dogs whose history is not known could lead to disaster.
  18. I don't think having every breed of dog living like it is a cosetted toy breed is an improvement either for canine mental or physical health. Surely a lot of the problems we see in dogs today are because we treat them as substitute children and not the canine companions they are. Having a dog live outside does not mean that they aren't a well loved member of the family and included in daily activities who are raised a happy, healthy and well socialsied dogs by responsible owners. Personally, I feel sorry for dogs who are confined to the house all day with nothing but the TV and a kong toy. My 9.5 week old standard pup absolutely loves being out in the garden and it would be a crime to deprive her of this. She would probably like to sleep out as well (night smells are very interesting) but unfortunately for her she sleeps in a crate next to my husbands side of the bed LOL PS I am advocating choice not dictating where dogs should sleep.
  19. Yes - it is all about choice and people should not be made to feel guilty because they choose to have an outside dog. My poodles sleep in my bedroom but if I had a shedding dog - it would be an outside dog because I don't like the smell of shedding dogs - my choice
  20. Is a laundry all that different to a good deck - laundries a draughty and cold. If pup has adequate protection from the elements and a warm snuggly bed (as described - with hot water bottle) I think it is really rude of people to guilt trip OP. That said - it will be more difficult to train pup to toilet where you want. I personally could not stand to have a shedding largish breed dog sleep in my bedroom or live as an inside dog- can't stand the hair or the smell - recently went to someones house that has a cattle dog who is an inside dog (bathed etc) and I could really smell it. :) I have sometimes wondered if it is healthy for dogs to live inside like we expect them to these days - when I was a kid most family pets were outside dogs and coped very well. If a dog has a warm and dry place to sleep why shouldn't they sleep outside.
  21. Hi PoodleProud, my brown standard who had food allrgies ate Proplan sensitive skin and stomach for several years - I changed her from the Eukanuba prescription diet as the Proplan was easier to source (and cheaper). If she ever snaffled any of the other dogs Proplan chicken or lamb based biscuits it went straight through her. I am going to change my new puppy over to Proplan Puppy as it is now made in Australia and the rep said all will eventually be made here. Their website would probably have info.
  22. The key here is AVERAGE owners - the general community is not dog savy. Their pets are not trained, often not contained and I have grooming customers who don't even know their bitches are in season???? I had a 7 month old Lhaso foster who humped his bed non stop and had started to be nippy - behaviour almost gone 1 week after desexing. Hormones were definitely playing a part - he was also easier to train as he was not constantly sniffing the ground. Why do larger dogs end up in the pound at around 9 months???? Teenagers with raging hormones who are not being managed by their owners. Small dogs are often sexually and physically mature at 6 months (capable of producing a litter) which is why vets recommend getting them desexed at this age. A very good choice for the average family. Many small male dogs are kicked outside at this age because they start marking - or are given into rescue.
  23. Job well done - let us know how you go with organising the desexing clinic.
  24. Sorry, I got tired of excuses a long time ago - these owners are not responsible! Bitch who is in season chained in the back yard Yep, that's responsible. A regular escape artist - build a bloody enclosure - they generally manage to keep animals contained in zoos - surely there is an enclosure out there that can do the same for dogs. Good on you for picking up this dog and reuniting her with her owners - we can but try and their will always be idiots in the world
  25. Don't you need to be a business to purchase from WooferWares????
