My favourite slickers are gripsoft and Doggyman - the comb you are looking for is sometimes refered to as a greyhound comb - not sure why

Poor man, very lucky not to have suffered a heart attack or serious fall - his confidence will be badly shaken and for an oldie such a trauma can be the start of a decline in health. What can we do to stop half wit dog owners letting dogs roam.

I don't think it is so much a lack of common sense more a complete disregard for other people - the "its all about me" is so prevelant that these morons truly don't think that there is a problem. If they want to do something and it irritates / inconveniences / harms other people they just shrug their shoulders. Rant over

Why are you giving her rice? She could be intolerant of this and it is already in her kibble so why does she need more? When you introduce something to a dog that already has a sensitve gut I would start with very small amount eg teaspoon and increase this over several days. I am not surprised that the marrow bone set her off - this is very rich.

I would not like my dogs to have a canula inserted for pts without me being present - as several have said - the whole point is that you are with them - my dogs are happier with me around and I want their final moments to be about feeling loved. If mine have to have surgery I stay until they are on the table and tubed - obviously I have an understanding vet. I know from working as a groomer that some peoples dogs are better when they are not there but as Cowanbee and others have said this is a matter of handling and training. When one of my old girls developed a phobia about the vets as a symtom of her cancer we put her on clomicalm and undertook retraining to work through her anxiety as we did not want her to be anxious when she went to the vets for her final visit. It worked and she passed very peacefully in our arms.

How horrible for your friend - hopefully time will heal and she will be able to think about the wonderful times she had with her dog rather than the circumstances of its passing. I recently took an elderly friend to have her little mini poodle pts and at the last second the little dog moved her leg (she was notorious for this) and the vet missed the vein. Fortunately Delilah received enough of the injection to make her a little quieter and after a couple of minutes letting the dog settle the vet was able to continue injecting a different limb. Delilah did struggle a little even though she was very ill and her time had definitley come. I have been with several dogs as they were put to sleep and this was the first time that I had seen a dog struggle and it was distressing. The vet was very good and made the best of a difficult situation. I may be wrong but in the situation you described it may have been very difficult to get a vein - lack of hydration and age can mean that veins collapse easily. (sorry, we all posted at the same time)

Anyone Know A Vet That Stocks/uses Nobivac In Western Sydney?
frufru replied to Merrirose's topic in General Dog Discussion
My girl had the Nobivac at 6 and 10 weeks and she is just about to turn 12 months with no probs . -
Personally I don't like it as clip - I prefer to see poodles with a moustache if their owners like facial hair.

Guys all the places you are listing are in Sydney - Far North Coast is over 1000km away Hope your guy is ok. I Know none of our local vets are open and the nearest vet would be the one Mish listed which could take several hrs given the traffic which is on the Pacific Highway at the moment - Bumper to bumper from the border to Brisbane.

Does Anyone Else Miss Being Able To Buy White Bed Linen?
frufru replied to Isabel964's topic in General Dog Discussion
We have white fabric couches and some gorgeous white linen - poodles - what can I say LOL -
There is a dna test for Von Willebrands in some breeds or perhaps there were indicators or it is a breed with a known prevelance. I would think it depends how severe the condition is as to desexing.

When I read this post I thought same principles as TOT and NILIF. If your dogs don't respect you and you want this to change you you need to change what you do. If you are unclear about how to impliment what the trainer has suggested - contact them! None of the things the trainer has suggested are harsh or very different to what many other trainers suggest. Teaching a dog to lie quietly on a tie down is no harsher than teaching it to crate. If you give your dog kisses and cuddles for free why should it respect you???? Dogs should be pleasant to live with not rule the house and cause dissent.

If people keep their details up to date then a lost dog or cat should be easily reunited with their owner. It is all about people accepting responsibility for their pets.

Just watched footage of this dog being reunited with its owner!!!!!!

Some Breeds Less 'smelly' Than Others?
frufru replied to jacqui835's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would have to diasagree with you about standard poodles smelling "doggy" I have had multiple poodles (standards and now a mini too) for the last 15 years and have never had a problem with doggy odour. Our house and cars do not smell "doggy". I really notice the difference when I visit friends with different breeds and have had several family members comment on the lack of smell with some surprise. Just my experience. Good luck with the search for a new baby. -
I don't see how they are easier to get - last year there were several breeders of standard poodles who had a great deal of difficulty placing pups from their litters. I look at the puppy adverts every week and there were standards being advertised at 6 months as remaining from a litter. I personally know of several breeders who had a great deal of trouble. Mini poodle breeders have also said things are slower and as for toys there are always litters in the DOL pages. One of the side effects of the dd craze is that poodle breeders are very wary about who is purchasing a puppy - are they going to be used to produce dds I think one of the differences is that poodle breeders are very upfront about how much grooming a poodle requires whereas I have seen many dd websites that say the dd coat should only be clipped off once per year. Anyway - got to go and groom my dogs
-
I think people buy dds because it is the latest craze - we live in a world which is characterised by consumerism gone mad - perhaps that is also partly why I object to xx - it is all about hype.

Steve, perhaps you would feel differently if you owned a poodle. The poodle temperament is wonderful - yet there is this constant cry (begun by Don Burke) and perpetuated by oodle breeders and apologists that poodles are neurotic. Nearly every fluffy cross that comes into my local rescue has been crossed with a poodle - currently there are a litter of puppies sired by a standard poodle to a border collie - deliberately bred in the hope of cashing in on the oodle craze. Toy and Mini Poodles were a favourite with byb before the oodle craze and now it is even worse. I have to go and walk my poodles (and the poodle cross from rescue currently in my care) no doubt I will bump into someone with and oodle who proudly proclaims it is a purebred. Perhaps there needs to be a new forum for breeds in development.
-
So what do you call a miniature poodle if not a medium sized non shedding dog of even temperament.
-
I to would like to know what the niche is?????
-
Since this forum was created to serve the interests of purebred dogs (AS PER ANKC) I am really annoyed by this thread. I find it insulting to poodles and labs and I don't care how many "other" registries exist or how wonderful they are. I belong to this forum because I have ANKC registered dogs and want to engage in talk with others who who are also interested in purebred dogs.

How smart are poodles? Check out these dogs!!! Personally, I have never understood where the idea that standard poodles are highly strung comes from. Poodles are meant to be joyful - but this is not the same as neurotic. http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/profile.asp?dog=45201 http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/profile.asp?dog=45180

So what are they going to put down as the origin of the breed - to make money!!!!!!! Give me a break - they can test all they want - the various "examples" I have met have been lunatics - is this in the breed description as well.

A small water bowl probably doesn't but a bucket of water certainly does!
