  1. Agreed Maddy. That's why I said if they can get past the on-leash in public requirement. And if they can't then a grey won't be suitable.
  2. Bias declared up front, but if they can get past the on-leash in public requirement, then I really don't think you can go past a greyhound for elderly folk. Bart has been an incredible success for my elderly friends - and its all gone far better then my wildest dreams. And the GAP people have been fantastic. And cheap as chips for such a wonderful, well supported dog. So remembering there's no such thing as the perfect dog, I'd seriously consider a grey.
  3. Just a thought Visla... Where and what are you looking Visla? IF you don't mind me asking your broad price range? Regional? North or south of river in Brisbane? Particular area? 2,3,4+ beds? Baths? If you let us know we can all keep an eye out for you? And you never know, an off-market opportunity might come along if we know what you are looking for :).
  4. Visla while it doesn't seem so at the moment, SM's right - you've dodged a bullet. And suggest you now take a step back emotionally and start looking again! The right place will come along - just takes patience, time and detachment! Big hugs. ETA: Oh and don't forget, there will be one very pissed off seller in that group now - they have lost their buyer. And that will probably be very unpleasant with the seller and the other owner occupier at loggerheads. You're best out of that as if the sale had gone ahead the owner occupiers anger would have been re-directed to you. And when that owner occupier comes to sell the boot will be on the other foot - karma's a b*tch.
  5. I'm sorry too Visla. But gee you did so well to find out before going ahead. These things have a habit of working out for the best and it will for you too.
  6. Visla, while I understand you love this place, believe me that can quickly change with a difficult body corporate. Not worth it IMO - if I were you I'd move on. All the best with whatever you decide.
  7. I made an offer on a strata in NSW some years ago - 4 owners - and I made the contract subject to production of approval to have two cats at settlement. And put the onus firmly on the seller to deal with the body corporate. I got my approval and settlement went through without problem. But mine was a term of the contract - so if there was no cat approval then the contract fell through. Otherwise I agree with other posters. I'd run a mile from here at this point. Now too stressful and even if you now get approval any slight noise from your dog they will be down on you like a ton of bricks. Now I'd avoid stratas full stop and buy a single standing home or Torrens title (if you have those in Qld).
  8. Thanks mjosa, FM, Boronia and DD. Mjosa thats a lovely story - hope your hubby and his new pup will be very happy!
  9. Thanks Mjosa - yep a match made in heaven. Bart's new Dad came home from hospital today and apparently he was concerned that Bart wouldn't remember him. He needn't have worried - Bart went nuts the moment he saw his Dad and had to be held until he settled. These two have had a special bond since day one. Happy tears.
  10. RSA I think the laws around muzzles for greys are pretty standard across the country. And no before his assessment today and before he receives his exemption card he wasn't/isn't allowed in public without a muzzle. So hopefully the exemption card isn't too far away for the gorgeous fellow! And yes I agree about the SWFs - I have one over my side fence who despite being a very nice dog I would cheerfully muzzle to shut him up!
  11. Fantastic news Bart fans! Bart passed his green collar assessment today with flying colours and just has to wait to receive his exemption card and he can go out in public without his muzzle (which apparently he was less than impressed with!). And to top it off, his new Mum and Dad officially adopted him today too. So so thrilled for them all. Best Valentine's Day present ever! Here's the proud boy and his new collar. (Can't wipe the smile off my face!)
  12. I so hope so mjosa - he deserves it - and his family have taken his training very seriously. So fingers and paws crossed here too for Tuesday.
  13. Thanks Harley. All fingers and paws crossed here. And a couple more photos - just cos I can! Sticking his head out the car window! And lying down on the job!
  14. Update for all you Bart fans... he had his first socialising outing to the beach today - and did brilliantly with another dog belonging to the extended family. Wish him luck - he goes for his green collar assessment on Tuesday!! Go Bart!
  15. Suspect this is just the tip of the iceberg And this is the ministerial idiot who believes greyhound racing in this state is clean...
  16. I can't - that is the absolute pits! You win B!
  17. Oh my goodness! It gets worse!! Thats the most 'numpty' thing I've seen so far!
  18. Yep agreed - would probably be Ok on short walks in winter but I wouldn't want to do that in summer. And believe me even a small dog gets very heavy very quickly if you're carrying them. Will likely severely limit the length of your walks.
  19. Thats a better one PK - that would work too.
  20. ETA: Forgot to add - whatever you buy, make sure you can get it in your car and get it in and out easily. While you might not think you'll need to take it anywhere I can almost guarantee that you'll want to take it somewhere at some stage - and children's strollers are designed for that.
  21. B you know I love you to bits - but that is the worst trolley I think I've seen! I'd far rather use a stroller than get seen dead with that!
  22. OK - I'm a numpty and pushed a proper child's three wheeler stroller around with Mac in it for some years. Perse found it for me on Gumtree - a Phil and Ted's three wheeler which I could manouvre with one hand with Mac in it and the other two westies on leads to get to the park. And not once did I get anything but delighted (if surprised!) comments. I carried mac on the beach one day and that was the only time I got a snarky comment about carrying a dog. I did a lot of research before I bought the stroller - and the stroller won hands down - completely manouvreable, stable (after all it is used for children), a great size, cheap second hand and very versatile - when Mac got too tired at the park he'd go back in his stroller for a snooze in the shade. Mac loved it - he could see what was going on around him and he was very comfy. And I could put my bottle of red in it as well! The trollies and garden wagons I found were too low, and too hard to manouvre and steer with the other two westies on leads, and nowhere near as stable - and the so called dog prams off eBay (as in the link above) were simply expensive junk. Anyway, my name is Westiemum, I'm a numpty and damn proud of it! And when Sarah gets to this point (which won't be long) then she'll take over where Mac left off. Hope this helps!
