  1. Yep I love them too. I made sure Mac (RIP) and now Sarah's bottoms are on them on the bed at night and that way they don't need to be banished because they are occasionally incontinent.
  2. She was a very lucky girl to have found you and your family PME. Have fun over the bridge Nana Gem.
  3. Neither do I Juice. How can someone do that to a 15 year old. Poor dogs.
  4. Yep I'm with Perse - but the city slicker varieties - chicken frames, chicken necks, beef bones and turkey necks when I can get them. Cheap, gives variety, no chemicals, I know exactly what my guys are eating and my guys love them. I constantly get asked how my guys teeth are so good. My almost sixteen year old westies teeth are incredible for her age. Even the vet is impressed and she's never needed a teeth clean at the vet. And Andy is heading the same way.
  5. H and C are my fav Australian band of all time - and this is my fav of their tracks cos I can - suck it up PETA! ETA: Gotta love Mark Seymour! Brilliant live.
  6. Jarrah boards similar to mine here. But they've gone up in price a lot since I bought mine 10 - 15 years ago - but other cheaper options look good too. Mine have lasted really well for years and years with daily use and have been worth the investment. And before anyone jumps in, the research is divided on plastic v wood chopping boards. I'm out of the camp that says wooden boards have a natural disinfectant (if thats the right word) in them (UK research from memory), we have always had wooden boards without problem, we keep them clean (warm hot soapy water!). No need here for ten colours of disposable plastic boards which need replacing and add to landfill.
  7. Oh my goodness I hate those white things B! Remind me of my grandmother who loved white and plastic! I have three wooden boards - one a huge Jarrah one I bought on eBay years ago and it stays permanently on the kitchen bench - brilliant board. And I have two pieces of the old Darling Harbour I bought in Bellingen in the mid 90's. I love my wooden boards - and they are so easy to keep clean.
  8. I find wings are too fatty for my westies - so I only use them when Sarah is getting a bit thin (never been a problem with Andy! LOL!). I also use big chicken necks which I buy from the deli section and ask the deli assistant to pick out the big ones for me. I then make sure I put them in the sides of their mouths which forces them to chew them rather than hoover them. And I've never had a problem. Personally I wouldn't give necks to puppies but I'm certainly no puppy expert. My favourites are chicken frames. Dirt cheap at my local supermarket (which has the best raw whole human grade dog food in addition to the Adelaide Dog mix I use). I give my guys half a small frame a couple of times a week (and they get a beef soup bone once a week). So mornings is a mixture of beef soup bones, necks, wings and frames. Incidently, I have a maltese/shitzu staying here for a couple of days while her Mum and Dad are away. Her Mum commented how beautiful my guys teeth are. Her teeth are terrible and the poo!! The Poo!! I've never seen soooo much badly formed really smelly poo from one little dog! The amount is more than my two put together! And she's fed exclusively on some type of dry food which came with her in a plastic jar. Needless to say she's been wolfing down the raw I've given her with her parents permission. (Didn't have the heart or inclination to feed her 'that stuff' while mine get real meat!). And no she hasn't got diarrhoea. Flame suit on.
  9. Good point maddogdosge - my Sarah does have sensitive skin and is very prone to yeast outbreaks so I'm very careful what I use on her. But yes I'm sure the Glo White works well on other dogs.
  10. teekay, I'm using the eye wash directly on the staining on Sarahs cheeks and face as well as in her eyes - and it certainly seems to be helping. So maybe try wiping some on your girls mouth and chest and see if it helps? Gotta be honest - not a big fan of those whitening shampoos anymore - think they are a bit harsh? So will be very interested in how you get on and what you think. The really good news is Sarebear's staining around her eyes is continuing to get much better and I think she is much more comfy! Thanks again DD.
  11. B dunno - I'm not sure - on a quick search I can't find any reviews or studies. and I'm having difficulty seeing how it might help - but that might be me. I've flipped it over to a human physio dog lover friend of mine to see what she thinks and will come back if I hear back from her.
  12. Glad your eyes are feeling better. And yes Sarah's staining was pretty bad too. And interestingly she seems happier as well.
  13. DD and teekay just wanted to pop back and say thanks sooo much. Sarebears face and eyes seem soon much better. I started her on the dry eye one a week ago and that bottle lasted a little over a day and then I got the bigger bottle of eye wash. While she's still stained, it isn't as mucky, brown and angry looking as it was. And most importantly she seems happier too. Thanks tons again DD - and how are you going with it teekay?
  14. Agreed to a certain extent juice. Certainly the regulations need to be much tougher. But overall after everythign tht has happened in this industry these nutbags are still doing it and putting their whole industry at risk. While the decision was reversed of course its possible to shut it down. Its happened before and is on its last legs in the US and elsewhere. And as I said before there are two things here - firstly, this will not end as these stupid stupid people will continue to live bait as they think they have some God-given right to do so - so its what we call an unwritten cultural ground rule in this industry that says its OK to live bait. That won't change where profit, gambling and money is involved. Secondly, the animal welfare groups will never give up on this - the 4 Corners report will happen again - and its only a matter of time before this ghastly industry is shut down for good.
  15. More pet food recalls in the US. I'm on a US based list so get to hear about this and its becoming much more frequent. This is disgusting. The only logical conclusion is that these people have been using euthanised horses, and probably dogs and cats (given the comments Evanger have made trying to shift the blame to vets). Glad my guys get only human grade raw food. I shudder to think what is in this stuff. Evanger pentobarbital recall FDA report
  16. And how is that variability any different to any other breed or any rescue service? They all have their advantages and disadvantages given there is no such thing as the perfect dog and greys are no exception. It would be really helpful if the 'breed experts' provided a balanced view of the pros and cons of the breed which helped rather than hindered people looking for a dog. Genuine further question not in relation to Maddy's posts: Why is it beginning to look like there is an exclusive club here that you need to belong to before you can suggest a greyhound which doesn't seem to apply to any other breed? Every time someone other than a selected few here suggest a grey they get jumped on and the discussion proceeds to damage the breed further. Its beginning to look like the worst of purebreed snobbery. I actually am beginning to feel very sorry for this breed - there's little hope for it with all this absolutely damning advocacy going on here, not to mention current publicity. I'm not going to discuss greys any further here as I don't want to be party to damaging the breed further. i'll continue to support the breed outside DOL and refer people to GAP. Well done people. Another breed advocate gives up on here. Play on... ETA: And BTW this sort of public discussion is damaging. And I for one am tired of trying to defend it and explain it to people who are simply trying to choose a dog.
  17. While I absolutely agree PC, two quick things before I go back to work - firstly, many breeds pull and pull hard - so greys are not the only ones. Small dogs are tripping hazards for the elderly, and bigger dogs are heavy to lift and pull (and thats a problem for me at age 55 as well so not confined to the elderly) - so again I think its a case of carefully matching the dog to the person/people/circumstances. Given that falls are the biggest cause of disability (and eventual death ) in our elderly folk bar none, (look up the stats), I think size needs to be a prime consideration. Secondly the reason I always say GAP greys is because of their very thorough matching process which should almost always ensure a dog well temperament matched to the new owner and their circumstances, regardless. Having said that, sure, greys are not the only dogs for elderly folk. But if well matched I still think overall they are a good option.
  18. The Wholistic Vet on Glen Osmond Road has a pet boarding facility. They used to not take dogs, only cats but their website seems to have changed and suggests they will now take all pets so definitely worth a call. I can recommend them as well - I've boarded my Mum's cat there a couple of times and it all went really well and he was absolutely fine when we picked him up. But if I remember correctly you need to book well in advance. Glen Osmond Road Vet Pet Boarding
  19. This is madness. If the regulators are not prepared to enforce the regulations and absolutely guarantee that this abhorrent practice isn't happening anymore, then its time to shut this industry down. greyhound-regulator-cant-rule-out-continued-live-baiting
  20. While its early days, Sarah's face looks better after using the Optrex. I used it in her eyes and directly on her stained face. Will report back again after I've given it some more time.
  21. Yep thats actually what I did. Usually she squirms with anything close to her face. But she just lay there and took it - which makes me think the drops gave her some relief.
  22. Thanks DD - will pick up some more next time I'm near the chemist.
  23. Well I've just given her eyes and face under her eyes a good clean and she's looking better already - and surprisingly she didn't complain and perform at all. So will report back in a few days. BTW DD, which Optrex did you use - there are piles of them! So I bought the liquid for dry eyes but if there's a better one I can get that too as a small 10ml bottle isn't going to go far!
  24. Thanks DD. My poor old Sarah has developed similar staining in the last 12 months, so I've bought some Optrex this morning and will see how it goes.
  25. Kevin thanks so much for posting your beautiful family - they are really gorgeous - 2 and 4 legged.
