  1. The stress has very much abated... I'd love to give bones but we live in an apartment and nowhere for him to consume bones... Seeing the vet tomorrow
  2. Thanks for the replies everyone Seeing slight improvement with slippery elm but still having issues. He has been on TOTW since birth (various flavours but salmon is his favourite). Any recommendations to change to? Will also try a probiotic as well. Back to vet tomorrow. Poor pooch, he is otherwise doing well and not stressed out anymore (showing more interest in baby, happily walks alongside the pram now etc.) - just want this poop situation resolved!
  3. Hi there, Long time lurker here seeking advice! We recently had a new baby and Milton, our beloved french bulldog took a while to adjust.. He is all back on track now except for one thing: he has very loose stools still. It started at the same time as baby coming home and there has been no change of diet (he's on Taste of the Wild grain free dry food and also gets a little pumpkin for breakfast feed and yogurt for evening feeds). The vet has ruled out any gastro bugs but put him on a course of antibiotics just in case which he has since finished but still no improvement. We are following up with the vet again and in the mean time i have been reading about Slipper Elm Bark. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any advice/suggestions/information? Many thanks!
  4. I've got a Milton here! Here is he is in his old man vest.
  5. The place I stayed at when i first moved to my current city had the nicest doorman whose name was Milton. My husband and I vowed we would name our future dog that because he really was the nicest man we'd ever met with such a great name..!
  6. hiya berly and Milton has Milton been on them since you got him ? I was thinking about trying the 2 pups I'm keeping on them He started on EarthBorn Holistic Puppy Vantage (as per breeder) but i switched him to TOTW when he was about 4 months.. HTH! Hope the babies are doing well!
  7. Glad Frodo likes it! It's what Milton is on too (although he is on the High Prairie formula)
  8. When Elena Zakharova looks into the eyes of her puppy as it suffers from bad knees and achy hips, she does not see a defective product to be returned to the store for a refund. The New York City resident believes Umka, her 1-year-old Brussels Griffon, is a living soul who feels pain and emotion. Now her attorney aims to prove it in court. Zakharova has filed a civil suit in a New York court against the Upper East Side pet store that sold her a puppy who went on to develop numerous medical complications. The suit seeks to hold the store liable for the dog’s pain and suffering, as well as its medical bills, as if it were a person rather than an inanimate product. Under New York law, pets are considered “property,’’ but the complaint is trying to change that definition. The ultimate goal is to help shut down the puppy mills, many of them based in the Midwest, that often mass-produce the animals sold in boutique pet stores like Raising Rover, where Umka was purchased. to read more: http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/45873492/ns/today-today_pets_and_animals/t/woman-sues-prove-dogs-are-living-souls-not-property
  9. Milton looking rather dapper in his Christmas bow tie!
  10. At least people are asking out of concern (even if it is misplaced). I get stopped all the time asking if Milton is a miniature Frenchie (umm no he is a puppy). I also get asked where I got him from as they are "wanting a Frenchie but they are so expensive so wanting to find one for cheap" (i just smile and say try rescue and try not to take it personally - do i or my dog look cheap!?)
  11. This is one of my favourite photos of Milton, glad i have somewhere to post it!!
  12. From an Australian living in New York (who loves this forum!), may i introduce my new frenchie Milton! Currently 10 weeks old!
  13. Hi there, Where did you take them previously? I recently took my 2y.o rescue Maltese for his first hair cut (in our care, we've had him since early September and he came to us basically shorn) to Regal Boutique Salon on Pennant Hills Road (located between Carlingford Court and Village so right near you!).. I dont have anything to compare it to but he did a fine job although it did a really long time (but he calls when your dog is ready for pick up...). Might try someone else next time so i have something to compare it to but apart from that, he was well priced and pooch was happy and his bouncy self afterwards... It was a bit of a shock seeing him with such short hair again after being so fluffy for a while! HTH
  14. It's been one year to the day since i had to say goodbye And it still breaks my heart every time i think of you You were my best friend, the one i could always turn to I miss you so much Jordan, please know that i'll always love you Forever loved and missed...
  15. For Dry food only - You could use a treat ball that dispenses the food in small amounts as the dog rolls it around For Combo foods - Put the whole thing in a kong and seal it up and give it to the dog that way? Both ways make the dog work for their food and it makes it hard to scoff it down?? Try www.vetnpetdirect.com.au or similiar - i find it pretty cheapo
  16. I recommend putting some chicken necks or wings into kongs, sealing with some peanut butter and then freezing it. Takes them ages and isnt so damaging to the teeth - I give the kong 3 days in a row and then a bone..

    Night Time Barker

my 9 yo GSD has always been an outside dog. he has the choice of sleeping in the partitioned off garage where there is a full size mattress (used when it's v cold or hot or when i send him in there for whatever reason, the command is "inside"), his crate that is set up in the shed (used only when there are thunderstorms) and his mat outside the back door (its under cover) my method of dealing with any major barking is to stand at the back door, call him in a not very impressed voice, ie luring him away from where and what he is barking from but move inside/ignore him when he reached me. so yes i got his attention but i wasnt giving him any real attention. Nowadays a simple tap of the glass on the back door, or i yell his name from the inside of the house and i've got his attention and he is silent again. However he has never been an excessive, nor night barker. It's more often than not one of the neighbours or their pets being close to the fence and he either didn't like it or wanted to join in. i concede that this method might not work for everyone, and like many other methods could open up a whole different can of worms. but it worked for me, and i just wanted to share my experience as an outside dog owner with the OP Rhi: update please? are you still having an issue? has the vision barrier made a difference? are you sure it's only the issue of the lights that your dog is barking at? is it a certain time that this happens? how far away is you bedroom to him? are you sure you can hear his every bark?? Is it only a night issue or does he bark a bit in the day?
  18. I've been using Sasha's since Jordan has his cruciate done. Has worked perfectly and there is no sign of limping, or soreness whatsoever.
  19. I used to give Jordan all sorts of bones on a really regular basis until he lost one of his back teeth and it got infected and he had a growth/lump under his eye which has since been succesfully removed. His 8 now so the rest of his teeth are a bit of a concern... I find the best way to give the smaller ones such as chicken necks and wings is to stuff into kongs and freeze, as he will just inhale them otherwise... and also frozen kongs can entertain him for a lot longer than loose necks/wings. Or I freeze them into some water or really diluted stock in a ice cream container to give to him as an iceblock... Otherwise i get the really soft bones such as brisket, ribs but give it to him frozen so again it lasts longer. Anything left over, i remove as soon as i can. He gets bones only 2-3 times a week and the kongs also 2-3 times a week, alternating between them and his teeth are doing really well.
  20. I tried giving Jordan some offal once but he wouldnt have any of it. What are the benefits of offal and how does one make it more appealing to them?
  21. Instead of having to mash up the necks, you can put them in kongs? Seal them up and hand them over - it takes a lot longer for them to get access to it which minimises the choking risk?
  22. CONGRATULATIONS KELLY!!!!! You must be so excited! It's been a great year from you huh? Chloe is doing ace and became a hero, and now you are engaged! Although i must say its a pity that Chloe wont be able to come with you when you move out My bf wants us to move out together but as Jordan has to come with me... it makes for quite the challenge, but he is quite understanding and assures me that if there is a will there is a way. ANYWAYS back to you, congratulations again!! and great news that Chloe is doing so well. Jordan is losing hair as if it were going out of fashion, noone elses dog is shedding so badly.... i dont know what to do!! Kim
  23. Quick update on Jordan... still same ol same ol... Weightbearing at about 85%... I've put him on Sasha's Blend which he is really doing well on as before this at night he would be holding the leg up again - combination of the colder temps compared to day as well as being on it all day... but a week after taking Sasha's, it doesnt happen anymore so that's great... Still going for only 20 minute walks every 2nd day and he seems fine with it..will step it up soon.. Apart from that, I bought him a clam shell but he doesnt fit in it - he looks pretty ridiculous just sitting in it...will post pictures up soon Sounds like everyone else is doing well - hope it stays that way!! Kim
  24. hallo all firstly the purple harness - it just means he is in touch with his feminine side - oh who i am kidding...i was so ashamed taking him to the vet today, at least noone said what a beautiful girl....I also realised that my car is purple, and his lead has purple in it as well - all a subconsious coincidince i swear!! Im taking the harness to work tomorrow to spray paint it with some racing stripes or something... Jordan is a bit blase and not too mention lazy so i hope chloe doesnt get her hopes up! he's a lone ranger that jordan but hey if the right lady just came along... anyways went to the vet today in his purple harness (it does keep him very still in the car except for when he goes nuts when he tries to get out when he knows we have reached the destination and gets pulled back due to the seat belt but i guess thats better than him slipping around during the whole trip). It went very well, vet was quite pleased and said to keep going with what i am doing - 10 to 15 minutes a day and then bring it up to 30 minutes over the next couple of weeks.... and now Jordan has to go on sasha's blend so im looking at getting that asap - is anyone else using it? how much do you pay for it if you dont mind me asking? ive only heard good things about it... anyways here at long last are some photos of the infamous harness - they are pretty crappy because he wasnt too pleased with modelling it...
