well my dog is now 14 months old now and he still squats. The funny thing is his knees touch the ground when he does. Such a little character

My dog was also had the same symptons as samoyedman's dog about a few weeks ago. Was told to put hoim on chicken and rice and I found that it made his poo worse. I have eliminated chicken from his diet and now give him lamb and his poo has been solid ever since. he is also on Nutro, but I have never had any problems with that.

My boy is 11 months old and is still a real chewer. Loves chewing shoes, glasses, glasses cases. He has about 15 chew toys, however the shoes are more appealing. He went through a faze where he enjoyed chewing the deck, however citronella oil worked a treat

i bought my dogs crate from dogtainers. i think it was around the $60 mark (can't remember exactly). It is a rather large one. my dog is 11 months old and he has flown a few times with us. we put a towel in the crate and some of his toys. It doesn't seem to faze him at all.

I had a problem with my guy chewing our deck. Have put citronella oil on the corners. This works really well and he hasn't chewed it since.

Thanks, I'll check it out. i find I have to drag him along when i walk him. he prefers to sit and watch the world go by

Samoyedman, I can totally relate to this. My nine month old has a "psycho hour". Always after his walk. he comes home and goes nuts. it drives me up the wall. i don't know why he does it. I have been to traning etc etc, but nothing seems to work, so am hoping he grows out of it

In terms of grooming, get that done ASAP. I took my guy for his first trim when he was 16 weeks. he was a bit difficult the first time, but now he loves going for his monthly trim. If you live in Sydney I can give you the name of a great groomer who does quite a few westies in our area. Westies are great dogs and mine has a wonderful friendly nature, however they are sooooooooo strong willed and independent and I have found it a bit difficult on the training front, especially recall

In our old place our entire courtyard was done with stones, so when our guy was a puppy (well he still is) he would bring them inside and chew on them all the time. used to drive me nuts. Thankfully we bought a new house and there are no more stones

Nutro And Eaglepack In Sydney?
westiefan replied to samoyedman's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I get my Nutro from paws only. They are online and will deliver. The shop is based in Rozelle. I get mine delivered as I live in the Eastern suburbs I think if you order a certain amount postage is free (not sure though) -
I agree, they don't like being white. i took my guy to the park yesterday and he had to roll around in the biggest pile of dirt. I was very embarrassed walking him back home as he was putrid Got to love a westie

Thanks for the advise. I brush him everyday (which he hates). Am going to get him shaved for summer, so might be a litle easier to keep clean. I think one of the biggest problems is that our neighbours tree is dropping pollen etc etc all over our place at the moment and rolley is rolling through it and is constantly covered in green pollen and leaves. The photo of harvey is so cute

the problems with having a white coarse haired dog

I am having so much trouble keeping my westie clean. I take him to be groomed each month and a day later he looks like a grey/brown dog. any tips on keeping him clean without always washing him. (his skin is a little on the sensitive side) Thanks

We had a pen for our pup when we first got him and I must admit he didn't like it at all. We made it very comfortable for him, however he tried to climb out of it and push it over. So we gave up and got baby gates and gave him his own section of the house and he loved that. we used it more for when we couldn't keep an eye on him so he wouldn't start chomping on cords etc etc In hindsight, I think we should have used a crate

I just want to add that I am also a Nutro convert. Having used Science diet, I find my guy loves Nutro and his coat seems a lot better as well happy dog = happy owner

I changed my dogs diet 2 weeks ago and he had the runs for 2 days..was really yuk. Vet told me to put him on white rice and cottage cheese until it firmed up...it worked nothing worse than runny poo

Does A Kong Work For Your Dog?
westiefan replied to flycow's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
when i first bought a kong my guy had no interest in it at all (even when I put treats in it). However, when I go out now I shove some of his treats in it and he lives to chew on it to get them out You might want to try a treat ball -
yes mine loves the bitter apple spray as well the onlt time he is well behaved and not chewing is when he is in the car... he loves the car for some reason :D
-
hehehe :D They can chew the deck together
-
Thanks, I'll have to try that. He is like a little garbage bin, will eat anything!
-
When does the chewing stop? My guy is now 7 months old and we had a month with no chewing, then this week it has started all over again, he chewed through the heater cord (which he managed to drag across the room and turn around so he could get at it) and now he is chewing the timber deck. :D I spread some chilli on a few things to deter him, however he liked the taste at what age roughly does it stop?

When we first got our pup he was up at 5am every morning!!! After a few weeks he learnt to sleep in and now WE wake him up at 6.30am during the week. He gets up for a pat and cuddle then goes back to sleep until about 9am. What a life!! I do take him for a 2 hr walk late afternoon so it tires him out

my desexed 7 month old pup was "humping" his bed today then did a wee on it...ahhhhh. So, being the nice mum, I didn't want him to be sleeping in his wee I gave him another cushion and he has done exactly the same thing. Any ideas why?
