Of course it happens...judges who put other judges up so when they show under them they get payback...and I have seen the reverse when payback turned into a dumping Some faces arent judges of course so theres room for us mere mortals :D

They show themselves so I thought he was in safe hands. -
Awww he is sooo cute...good luck in your next shows.

I fly all my puppies that go interstate with Dogtainers...and when the new owner buys the PP20 it only adds average $10 to the flight price...so I would suggest getting quotes from a few companies and the price of the PP40 may be cheaper.

Can I have a rant against dog groomers please :D just one not all of them. I have only ever used a groomer once in my life...for my Pekingese just recently. I thought I would support a local new business so booked him in with the groomer for a WASH I told the partner of the shop being the husband on the phone that he has a few shows coming up and I would like him washed. It should have taken less than an hr to wash and dry him...they said they would ring...I rang after an hr and they said he will be ready soon we will ring you. I was getting worried at this stage....they rang me an hr later to say he was ready. I went in....when he brought him out he looked so little...SHE HAD STRIPPED HIS UNDERCOAT OUT He was in show condition coat wise when I dropped him off...not even a knot in his coat or matted peices...I will admit he did have a few fleas as at the time we were struggling to get control of them and we do live in the bush. Anyhoo I was so angry I just paid and left and cried in the car. My bitch is if she was having difficulty because of his coat to wash him then she should have phoned me and I would have come and got him...I would not have said yes strip his coat to make it easier for you. Her mistake also is having happy hubby at the counter saying yes to everything and she'll know what to do My mistake was not talking directly to her the groomer. -
Ballpark figure would be a coupla hundred dollars. :D

Breeders Beware (permission To Cross Post)

What the hell are we microchipping for if dogs arent getting checked at shelters and pounds or Vets? It is supposed to help identify dogs if lost or stolen...the shelter in question could have a stolen dog in their hands and have already decided to re desex it and rehome it before they have even checked ownership. -
Sending lots of Puggie vibes to China.

We found our 3 birth advertised in the DOL classified ads section for $500...a good clean little trailer that does the job. So really it depends on how much you have to spend.

I would still have a problem with it...there is too many unknowns when breeding mongrels to mongrels...and your last statement it the biggy for me. Maybe I am "holier than thou" as called by someone in another thread :D but a backyarder is a backyarder, whether they breed Pugs or Working dogs. Are you saying organisations such as Guide Dogs who breed labrador x goldens are BYBers? The dogs are all temperament and health tested. The parents are purebred labrador and Golden Retrievers. These dogs are bred to be functional and have working careers that help hundreds of people. So are you saying that the Guide Dogs dont source any of their puppies from Purebreed Lab and Golden registered Breeders?

Thanks for this info Jerojath I too thought they hibernated...I walked the pugs thru our paddocks all winter, good grief. We lost our huge Saanen Buck a couple of years ago, on the bank of one of our dams.

Yes, and only something you can decide, how high you set the bar...I think you should aim for what you feel and dont compromise but negotiate

The why isnt important - its the how that counts. Breeding 2 working dogs together to make a litter of good working dogs isnt such a bad thing but thats not bettering any breed. The only way to do that is breed predictible puppies over consecutive generations. What we do is different because we think being able to consistently predict management issues in a dog is as important as having to test each one working to see if it got the right bits from the right parents. Unless you know that dog has ancestors which have been doing the work well then what you see isnt necessarily what you get . I think its time we stopped labelling it wrong I just think its different to what we do. For me part of breeding dogs is the challenge of getting it right over consecutive generations so I can say Ive left something behind which others can work with. Its the use of the knowledge and science. If someone else wants to use luck they also need to know there are consequences for that and pumping out a dozen or so cross bred pups with high prey drive which are unpredictible is big deal in the society we live in. How can it not be wrong when it is from these backyard litters the HA dogs pop up in suburban backyards and you have a death or mauling happening. After all the recent events concerning HA dogs I dont understand Steve how you can condone what backyard breeders are doing by saying it is not wrong, just different.

The hypothetical is not about a non recognized breed by the different registries..it is about non-registered dogs in a backyard being bred to chase and bring down pigs, is it not?
-
Sorry Yes...still Backyarders.

Exactly this. ....if not then the breeder shouldnt have bred the litter. -

Any puppy only gets colostrum for the first few days regardless of whether they were free whelped or had a c section...and they dont die...what a stupid thing to say BB
