I used dogtainers to send puppy to NZ. Would (and have) used them again. They just organised everything. MIght be a bit dearer, but then we put our heart and souls into breeding these puppies, so we have to make sure they arrive safe and sound at their new home.

today I had two enquiries for puppies, (Of which I don't have any, not planning another litter until this time next year). the long and short of the both conversations, both sounded like great puppy home prospects. Then it came to the question of how much i sell puppies for ,or the going rate for them. When I said what it was both ladies were shocked, thought they would be able to get a puppy for about 1/2 asking price. Both said :"but I only want a pet one, not a show one". I tried to explain that it doesn't matter whether they are buying a show or pet puppy, it still costs the same amount to raise them. (and as we all know, we really don't recoup our money) How do other breeders react when asked this question. Should I be trying to justify the price or not, thanks scrappynsuzie

HI Jerojath, I received the same email, only enquiring about scotties a few months back. The emailer also spelt pup as pub, but oddly enough, he emailed and apologised for the spelling error. I thought it was genuine until I just read your entry. I am not able to access breeders forum so I have answered seperately scrappynsuzie

I haven't got my numbers yet either. Entered for Sunday. Also wanting that elusive last challenge, to make up my bitch. If she ever gets the last 3 points that will be 3 champions from my first ever litter. Also will have my new baby boy there for a look, He won't walk on a lead, very resistive but we will see what happens. cheers

I thought garlic was poisonous to Dogs!! My scottie has an allergic reaction to Advantix, when the vet contacted bayer and they then contacted me, the person at Bayer told me that Golden Retrievers and Bichon Frise, are very sensitive to Advantix, apparantly My scottie has the enviable title of the first scottie in Australia to be allergic to Advantix (Or so they told me)

just looked these up on ebay and they are in us sizing, ie, size 2, 4, 6 etc. How do you work out the appropriate aussie sizes (I sure as eggs can't fit into a size 6 Aussie sizing)

As poodlefan said I had a little brag also. My homebred dog,McDuff, from my first ever litter went RUBIG at Tumba on Saturday. This was his first major IG win. Tumba is another great little show on the southern ag show circuit. SSHH, maybe we shouldn't be telling everyone what a great area we have, they will all want to come. The little circuit of Gundagai, Tumut, Adelong and Tumbarrumba (bethungra, also) is great, very friendly, and everyone seems happy to help their fellow competitor. Congratulations to the organisers and exhibitors. Was great to meet fellow DOLers. Hope to catchup with you again at Canberra

Just a follow up about my puppy. When she was 6 days old she had colic, took her to the vet and treated, showed some improvement for a couple of days, then disaster struck. Cried and screamed all night when she was 11 days old. Nothing could stop the pain or screaming for longer than 1/2 hour. took her back to the vet thinking I'd have to have her put down. X-ray attended and showed her whole abdomen whited out,- peritonitis. We decided to try to save her and our wonderful vet, started her on antibiotics, he took her home with him and gave her sub-cut fluids and injectable anti-biotics overnight. She had two full days in hospital, has been home now for over a week on antibiotics, (last day today). the vet nurses decided she needed a strong name to pull through, so they named her Queen Oprah, (After Queen Latifah and Oprah Winfry), two very strong women. She has put on weight, has opened her eyes, and is up walking about (better than her well brother and sister). She still weighs significantly less than her brother and sister, but is as bright as a button. Her mother disowned her when she was sick at 11 days, (Mother nature saying, not to bother, she won't make it), but as soon as I brought her home from the vet, mum took her back and has been nurturing and looking after her, and feeding her along with a couple of supp feeds. (she is not being sup fed any more) but will be starting on some pink puppy slush tomorrow. Interestingly, she wasn't the smallest in the litter, and up until colic was doing so well. I am now cautiously optomistic that she is on the road to recovery. This photo was taken on thursday, and she is looking quite bright. Just thought I would like to share a good news story with you all

hopefully photo of mum with 3 babies.

thanks gigit. I ended up taking everyone. All the pups were examined as the vet hadn't seen them since the ceasar last saturday night. He was pretty chuffed to see how well they all looked. Puppy 1 with colic had an enema to ensure no blockage, given some antibiotics as her temp dropped yesterday, given an injection for anti-spasmodic and at the moment seems settled, but we all know with colic it can come back at any time. Also was started on infacol drops, which according to the vet is the american number 1 treatment for neonatal colic in puppies. I guess, I feel a little better having her checked out, and letting me know that I am doing ok with them. thank you for answering narrelle

Hi guys. I have a litter that is 7 days old today. As I live out of town and have to travel 45 minutes to the vet my question is, One of my puppies has colic and i have to take her to the vet. Do i take the other two puppies and the bitch as well or do I just take the sick one. I have been battling the colic for 24 hours now, using heat, Braur colic drops, tube fed the puppy, Being a Saturday I think I need to get expert advice now, rather than later tonight. The vet thinks she probably needs buscopan, but as I have to drive to town to get the buscopan, he would like just to check the pup out while I'm there. I forgot to ask him about taking the whole family in, (he is seeing a horse with colic at the moment &I can't contact him to ask him), Hoping someone can give me a speedy answer. Thanks in anticipation narrellle

The Best Thing I Heard At The Royal Was...

scotties get the "Oh look a chum dog, so chumpy you can carve it" or speak to the dog in a fake scottish accent, and ask if his/her name is jock or hamish, -

Allergic Reaction To Advantix
scrappynsuzie replied to jbbb's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi, My dog also had a reaction to advantix. He is a 2 1/2 year old scottie. He went crazy with itching a had the parathesia in his front legs. A hasty trip to the vet, (after I had washed it off him) an antihistamine injection and a vow never to use advantix again. My vet contacted bayer and then I contacted them, very, very helpful, loads of freebies to try and lots of info given to me. I spoke to Cate, and she said that the incidence of allergic reaction to advantix is 0.02% of dogs. She said that the main dogs that have reactions are golden retrievers and Bichon Frise. My scottie was the first. I had used frontline and frontline plus previously with no ill effects, so I will be using frontline again. As we don't live in a tick area advantix is not really necessary, I thought we would be going to the coast for Christmas so decided to use advantix. I would not discourage other dog owners from using advantix as it is proven to be the best tick treatment on the market. Once again I will say that the Bayer team were very helpful and I would not hesitate to call them if I had a query again.
