OMG! what am I doing. I hadn't had any sleep for three nights and I'm stuck on Friday. Shucks. Now I must join the losing-it thread in Off-topic.
-
thanks for all the tips, first I'll wait for RSPCA's response before doing anything further. Today's friday, I'll give it a few days for them to respond see how it goes. To be honest, I'd rather not have any direct contact with him, feral is an understatement, I'd rather we each mind our own biz here, as it is we are new in the neighbourhood and they've already tried to blame another council complaint on us.
-
Funny you say that, I am just about to right a letter to someone that has to fill the same Bark diary out...I know they such but Councils are required by law to do it.. I dont agree but they are the rules. I dont know the situation, eg dogs temrement/ surrounds and all that. Maybe just keep nagging the RSCPA.. SOME ONE has to listen HOPEFULLY.. Right now we sleep in the spare room at the back with ear plugs. We can't afford to stay awake as we have to work. I suggest to council about putting on a voice recorder for the noise at night, then submit them as evidence. They said no, instead of a CD with all the voice clips and photographs and all, I have to DOCUMENT it black and white, their way. Now I don't even care about the barking anymore, we can always move to another room, that's a small matter. What I care about is that it such a torture for the dog to face four walls day in and out, I know I'd go crazy in a few days for sure. edit random spelling.

tell them the poo is a health hazard done that, and they list it as a "smell" complaint, description as there's an odor coming from property. Now how's that going to make anybody take the complaint seriously.

Well I won't want to release the dog as he has no contact with most humans, I don't know if he'd be aggressive. It's not easy to release him anyway, the surrounds of his area is full of industrial waste like timber planks and stuff, nobody can get to him really except from inside the house. Just spoke to useless council, they asked me to keep a 2 week diary and note the type of barks and reason for it. They are basically asking me to keep awake whole night for two weeks to make those notes. It's a good thing I love dogs and really pity him, any dog hater will just get rid of him in their own way. They really make it too hard going through the proper channels, sometimes I wonder what I pay rates for. sigh.

pollywaffle, this dog is worse, he's there 24x7. There's a time the entire family went away and he's just left there with a tub of pasta, that's it for close to two weeks. A friend drove by every 3-4 days to check on him, I don't know if he fed him. He's not a pup, I guess he's at least 2y.o. The owner won't get affected by the barking as they are night people as well, gets loud only after sunset. I should probably blast the sound system at 7am but I dont' want to disturb anybody, we are quiet people.

I've done the RSPCA, now to the useless council, tough one.

Hello Dolers, I need some advice. I have a feral neighbour next door who kept his rotty mix in a 2x2 area littered with poo and dirty water. There's some tubs with water there, one have gone green, the others are black. There's no shelter either, it's just a fenced off area, so he's in the sun, rain wind and hail. He can't see out at anybody and have no interactions. Basically he's just a guard dog and he's going bonkers especially at night time. From the appearance he looks healthy and fed but sometimes the scrap food were left to rot for days. I've reported it. Now the question lies, if he looks healthy even though living in filth, will they still take action? What can I do now? I pity him but the owner is totally mental, same as the dog and now he is driving us mad as well as he barks Non-stop from 9pm at night, we have moved to another room for some sanity.

Diva is my third dog, my BIL have another three who live with us from time to time. They are/were all male except Diva and based on observation, I find her the most emotional. She has her moods and shows it with a lot of facial expressions and body language, not forgetting the whinges. None of the other boys was moody.

Wow dream dog well based on my observation and limited knowledge on dog behaviour, Diva's turning away seems a bit different to what Charlie does. Diva is quite a dominant dog at heart and marks her territory often but she's definitely not the top dog, OH is. I suspected my position is more of an equal to her as she listens to me but does not really let me lead or correct much. From your description, Charlie seems happy of his place in the family and is not dominant? Lovely dog no doubt, I've to train Diva so hard to get her to wait for the food until we give the release command. The eating behaviour wise, I'd try to describe it, she watches me, I start eating, she turns head away and throw a sidewards glance then walks away, throw a glance again sort of a dirty look, repeat this a couple of times, then turn her back. Sometimes she gives a grumpy face. That's the thing with this darling dog of mine, she has loads of facial expressions, she can suck in both sides of her muzzle in to look like she's been starved for days She's such a clown.

If this has been mention before can somebody direct me to the thread? I don't know what topic I should search under. Diva is 3.5y.o mostly well behaved and her eyes follows me every second, not the OH, just me. That's an issue on its own but I'm more curious about something else. Everytime when she's watching me and I started to eat something, she'd turn away. Today I'm on a sickie at home and ate my breakfast. She sat in front of me watching, after I took a few mouthfuls, she turned away and went into her kennel. Then waited for five minutes and came out to check on me, I was still eating and in she went again until I finished breakkie. This is something she do, 99% of the time she watches me, sometimes creepily, other times curious and cute but if I were to eat anything, she'd look away, butt facing or walk away. It's the only time her eyes were off me. Anybody's dog do that? I'm just curious what's on her mind BTW I don't share food with Diva, she gets her food in her bowl after we eat, never from the dining table or kitchen bench, very strict house rules here because she was an extremely dominant puppy once. :D

Tried several, now on Royal Canin, preferred Nutrience as it was really good but my girl been putting a little weight on it so I tried RC. Surprisingly with RC she's toned up and the poo is so tiny. So now it's between these two and half barf.

Where Do You Buy Your Dog Food?
flycow replied to Budhi-Staffy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
 -
eucalyptus? I use that to keep fly away from ME, seems to work a little. (I can't bear to use citronella on myself too, I'd suffocate )

that's scary Daggles, thanks for sharing, I'll watch Diva from now on whenever I gave her something that size. I've discovered lamb necks only recently and a small one last her up to 2 hours while really big ones one whole day when frozen! Hooray!!! Now I need an extra fridge to store all those jumbo necks, they took up way too much space. I usually buy 10 when it's available.

Some months back I was helping someone look for it on Ebay and I found one version of it but apparently the formula has changed. They dont' make the old Leo anymore.

My pup didn't do well on EP large breed pup 9 months ago. She got bloated after each meal and vomited the food back up sometimes, it's no wonder when the kibbles expands four times it's size when you soak them. She's also hyperactive back then and have 4-5 soft poos a day until I change her to Nutrience which she did well on, 2 solid poos a day, no vomiting and much calmer. Now she's on half BARF half kibble (due to food recalls, i'm worried), going on full BARF soon. I know some dogs do well on EP large breed pup, but mine just didn't. I believe each dog responses differently to different foods so it's all down to trial and error.

"let her go hungry..." My absolute soft spot on this one, I don't sleep well usually if I didn't feed her dinner. I suspected she knows this. Ok I'd persist.

How Can I Keep Dog Of Outside Couch?
flycow replied to Dogfish's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
LOL at Erny's solution. I'm sure dog knows comfort and can do a comparison on the comfort level between the crate/ground versus the couch. I will spray/soak some Citronella/Eucalyptus NEAT on the couch or some cushions. Or velcro some spikey things there to make it uncomfortable. Never tested not sure if it'll work. edited spello -
Hi all, First of all, please excuse me for the topic, it's more about my dog's tantrum than a general discussion kinda topic, I dont' know how to edit it. Here goes, My 1 yr old pup threw some tantrums last night at dinner and I'm not sure what's going on, can anyone shed some light? This is what happened. I usually put down Diva's dinner and proceed to do some repetitive training with her before letting her eat. She doesn't eat unless I give her the command to do so after the training. The Pack order with us is OH is the top dog, then me, then her. We both take turns to feed her dinner and do training. For the past two days I was the one feeding and she tried to negotiate with me. She whinged and kept putting her focus on the bowl (far away)instead of me and also shift her butt when sitting so that she face the bowl, instead of the usual position by my side. She still do as I say but half heartedly and impatient. Then last night it escalated, she threw a tantrum. OH fed her and did the same training. Halfway she made the usual whinges, then refused to do it anymore and hide herself into the kennel, refusing to eat. We remove the food straightaway. This has happened once in her life when she was a 8 week old puppy with her assumed position of top dog. We had roast chicken for dinner when she screamed, when we fed her dog food afterwards she turned her head refused to eat in a protest that lasted an hour. It was exactly the same as last night. It took us 10 months to put her at the bottom of the pack and she was a reasonably well behaved dog with some good manners so far. Can someone tell me if I need to correct last night's behaviour or is it just a one off? Diva is a mildly determined and independent dog compared to most of her siblings, not too extreme but she likes to do things her way as a pup rather than follow her brothers. That was what I observed when I bought her. That's also why I have been using NILIF on her, if she had ran the show from young all hell would have broken loose. Will Dolers share your experiences on this kind of behaviour? Please advice. Much appreciated. background info: Pup is not allowed on bed/lounge/chair, also no food straight from food preparation areas or dining table. Her meals are prepared separately. She does pull on the leash half the time when she got excited, just slight tension not full force. We use a halti on 'excitable' days, normal days we use flat collars, we are still correcting her pulling. edited I suck at grammar and spelling

not good to switch back and forth like this, it's stressful to the dogs no matter what brands, especially seniors as there could be underlying reasons. Why don't you check with a vet before any further changes? I'm more worried about the 11yr old.
-
gingerpuff, if I were you I'd stop the bikkies for the dog for a while (or permanently) and just keep on dry. If it doesn't clear up maybe you can seek a vet's opinion? It could well be this particular dog doesn't tolerate the food while the other one does. Sometimes it depends on the individual dog's stomach so you might need different foods for both dogs.

Yeah like twisties, no stale oil or plasticky smell, big crunch too.
