I am still working on my 2 year old, who thinks all dogs are like his dogs at home. We are educating him to never touch a dog without the owners permission first, and that is working pretty well. We came across a seeing eye dog int he shops the other day and he was fsacinated by it all. I spent some time explaining to him and he was very excited. We got to the checkout and the lady and dog (in harness and lady with hand on harness ie working mode) were in front of us. I explained that he could not touch the dog because he was working and that he couldn't be distracted right now. The lady was lovely and thanked me for the consideration. She told me that every day she gets idiots patting the dog, feeding the dog, setting the dog up to fail (putting things in its path etc).

:D Big question is, how did the cairn find a car with Kentucky number plates? One of my terriers ate my prized Oxford Dictionary - Hardcover. Must be a terrier thing! How do they pick your prized books? The pile of books my cairn tried to eat (ate as much as he could and shredded the rest - all 30 or so) was a pile of old, first editional penguin books that I collect, and had out to catalog and check condition. The remaining collection is safely stashed higher on the shelves. Funnily enough, I have not been able to replace any of the ones he ate?? There was a pile of my OH cycling magazines on the floor next to him - he would have done me a favour to eat them ...

My cairns have never been thieves, but my old boy has dementia now, and will eat anything!! I dropped a bag of flour one day. Went to get a pan and brush and came back to find him scoffing it down as quickly as he could. There was flour coming out his nose. He also tried to eat a pile of books. I have to be super careful of what is left around now. If it fits in his mouth and can be moved, he WILL eat it.

Not at all like a Lab If it was a Lab it would have eaten the car. :nahnah: ;) ;) And I thought the wolfie eating my sanding block half an hourr ago was an issue! SNAP: my poodle pup ate a sanding block and a sheet of sanding paper yesterday. She will have nice clean teeth (and insides)!!

There is plenty of info on the web on the use of this drug in dogs.

I just stick to washing and refilling water bowels daily. A couple of friends have tried automated waterers and they all leak, become a play thing with huge amounts of water wasted, or get destroyed by the dog.

Puppy With Suspected Parvo - Only Had Him 7 Days!

The rapid improvement sounds like something other than Parvo, so that is good news. -
Your 'learning To Groom' Stories...
Dogs4Fun replied to Henrietta's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Just thought I would comment that a poodle is not low maintenance between clips. Depending on the clip you choose (ie how long the hair is), you will need to be brushing through the coat at least twice a week, with a bath and dry weekly, face and feet clips every two weeks. If you get them basically shaved all over, of course, this work is minimised. But a dog with a moderate amount of coat in a pet trim could easily take you an hour to wash and dry if you are using a human hair drier. -
I tend to trust my dog's judgements on other people. It sounds like you are ready for this guy to go. Sit him down and tell him so. Get your life and sanity back.

Wow, she is an absolute baby. Ideally she should be still with her litter. She should not be doing any "forced" excercise yet. Playing freely is fine, but trudging the pavements is not good idea for such a young one.

Do Dogs Know That Different Houses Have Different Ruls?
Dogs4Fun replied to Loraine's topic in General Dog Discussion
They sure can. I used to dog sit a delightful corgi for an elderly lady who spent a lot of time in hospital (up to 6 months at a time). At her house, the dog slept on the bed, on the furniture, ate food from her hand, begged for food at the table. At my house, the dog slept on its own dog bed on the floor (in the lounge room), never got onto the furniture, ate from its bowl, never begged. And we didn't have a dog at the time. She never made a mistake as to who's house she was in! She also got lots of exercise with us (we would build up slowly though) and usually lost about 5 kg and got really muscly when with us. Then got soft and flabby again when with her mum. But she was a very happy dog all the time! -
Cairns and Standard Poodles get along great here.

Obedience Trials Within Breed Club Speciality Shows
Dogs4Fun replied to sas's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Unless they say it is open to the group, it is likely breed specific. -
Agree, well supervised, size appropriate raw meaty bones.

Comment Made By Rspca Chief Executive Mr. Michael Link
Dogs4Fun replied to Moselle's topic in General Dog Discussion
It doesn't seem like and unreasonable comment, although I am not sure of the context. It would be preferable that he didn't name other breeds, but I think he is at lesat aware that public (or indeed "expert") identification of breed by visuals only is unrelible, especially so when "Jo Public" is involved. -
Valuehart looks to be the best value and the same drug as heartgard. So that looks the way to go for now. Thanks for all the help!!
-
Thanks, I was looking for the basic and cheaper ones - I can then add any additional intestinal worming etc as I see fit as I no longer think that the "all in one" products are the way to go for my dogs.
-
Thanks, will look into these.

A while ago there was some discussion about basic monthly heartworm prevention and I can't remember the name or find the thread I am after. Can anyone (re) enlighten me please??

Thanks

You refer to your childer's legs as their "hind legs". I think it made my GPs day!!
