Thanks Troy :) Yeah I have come to terms with making the right decision although now upset it may be a few days to have her at peace OH knew last nigth I didnt want another lot of meds to try and blood tests done I have over the last year or so had and tried all meds that was recommended and that wasnt helping her at all as the blood test they took wasnt nice she squealed apparently they needed to shave under her neck and take blood from there and it was awfull hearing her ( not happy with OH at moment ) lol was bad enough day with out the extra distress but as vet pointed out OH may now realise that she needs to be at peace before it gets too bad for her he could see OH was struggling with putting her to sleep . geez who wasnt ? keeps saying to myself Tara comes first .........

Thanks it has been a VERY stressfull day I talked to OH about it all yesterday and decisions were made I didnt want toput her on more medication as most end up giving her the runs etc it was a hard night last night and this morning I was as prepared as could be for the PTS OH I thought also was after our talk yesterday but when vet was here he asked for blood tests I can understand that but vet is sure her kidneys are failing hence the odour she has and her eating more , drinking more and loosing weight and pale gums all lead to Kidneys so the odour is from failing kindney organ he thinks she could last anything up to maybe 6 months , but when vomiting starts then that is the final stage and I wont put her through that I have to be strong and make a decision for her before she suffers she apparently isnt in pain and has given no indication of any we are waiting for the blood test to come back tomorrow to know the full extent of what failure is going on and if also other organs are failing but talking to the vet few minutes ago , he will fit us in for next week for her passing over to go from a morning of thinking this is her last day to now having to wait for few more days is totally heartbreaking Troy can you move to maybe aged care section Please as dotn want to take up more space for Dog Rescue

Yes , we have the vet coming out tomorrow to talk and discuss any options Tara has Dementia , blindess , deafness and back legs giving way on her all mangable the locum vet said 2 weeks ago ( our regular vet was of sick they day I had the appointment ) that is why I bringing my regular vet out tomorrow as mentioned I have noticed this odour for last week or so no change of diet and she was given new meds last vet visit but that odour was there before the new meds she has had more bad days than good ones , although last saturday she ran after my new addition to family and that surprised me Tara doesnt look happy anymore I have been told by the vets in last year that she isnt in pain after posting I did speak to the vet to organise a visit and mentioned the odour and it was mentioned if her organs failing that can cause a odour It's not unpleasant but distinctive., exactly , I cant describe it to any smell I have smelt before , her last urine sample 3 weeks ago was perfect , no protein which could indicate a problem she has been having yoghurt and home cooked vegies and chicken etc OH and I have just had a good talk and we both agree she doesnt have quality of life I wil see what the vet says tomorrow but sadly we think it may be her time PLus she is loosing weight quickly even though she is eatign well Thanks for the replies as I had a feeling maybe this odour was indicating what could be about to happen Thanks Troy for letting me post here instead of General

It is a terrible decision isn't it when not sure if doing the right or wrong thing more good or bad days ? well the last 7 days seem to be her worst the week before wasnt to bad what would I recomend to a friend ? , well would be hard but would probally say might be kinder to give her her wings ,espcially after trying every avenue they could according to the vet she isnt in pain , she doesnt cry in pain when moving up or down what can I deal or cope with good question as I know it is wearing me down , mainly for the reason seeing her like this and knowing that when she has a accident inside she herself doesnt like it blindness, deafness, and pacing I can cope with better than the mess inside it breaks my heart seeing her this way trouble is she has always had a "tricky" tummy and some of these meds she gets put on gives her the runs , which wouldnt help her " pain releif " if she cant take them since gettign the new dog a month ago , Tara has been getting her special time with cuddles and time alone with me and the same with new girl , time alone and time all together it was a lot of emotional strain on me just looking after her day to day, and I think it also probably was for her to and that is what I have been thinking is it to much for her to cope with anymore , particularly if I also not here she has the vacant look at times , and gets caught in corners and this must be a frightening thing for her Yes OH will be home but he has a heart condition and doesnt cope well with mess inside etc , let alone cleaning it up lol Plus one big factor is the hygene side of it , even thoroughly clean with dettol etc I dontn need a problem with my wounds I did ring hospital today and will go in next month for my op ( as it hasnt given me pain and agony for few weeks ) so fingers crossed it will stay that way until op , it has releived my stress levels a bit knowing I can be here to monitor and help her more I rang vet yesterday and he suggested a couple of days break from the tabs ( which I did stop them saturday when saw what they did to her ) so today she has had half the dose and so far so good , no runs if the tablets help her without the runs , then will be easier on her if they give her problems then I "think" the kindest thing would be to give her her wings , rather than the vet saying " we can try this and then this etc , all with probally the same affect on her over last few years she has had 3 different tablets all that gave her the runs I am / have tried every avenue I can to make her more comfortable and have some quality time so fingers crossed these next few weeks will give her some better results Thanks for the replies much appreciated

Ok I am feeling really stressed out lately ( had a terrible year last year and this year not much better ) I need some objective opinons I am due to have my Gallbladder out this week and stressing so badly over my 15 year old we have never been apart for a night as per above she turned 15 yrs this Febuary she has had dementia for couple of years now , pacing around , sometimes gets behind a door and cant find her way out and crys I am home 99% of the time so can hear her and be with her she eats pretty well still , 3 smaller meals a day she apparently has some minor dental problems she has been deaf for few years now and almost blind Nuclea Scholoris ? or similar she seems to cope with her deafness and he eyesight failing she fretted when Sam passed away in Dec 2010 , but we got her through that she has loss of muslce tone in back legs and her back legs seem to droop lower at times , for instance when eating her back legs start to go lower until she is sitting she has a raised bowel to eat and drink from when she goes outside she paces around , does her business then is like a puppy again and comes running back inside to the point she slips and slides over the floor , have had mats down for about 12 months she has had her accidents inside ( mainly poo's ) , sometimes our fault as we dont see her quick enough to get her out the door , sometimes we walk her aound for ages and she does nothing , then when she comes back inside she does it i bought another 7 yr old companion for her and had her a month , they get on fine , and Tara uses her as a guide dog had the vet out this week , and he says she isnt in pain , and given her meds for her legs ( anti inflamatories ) but she only had half the does recommended and next day she has the runs inside ( she tends to have a sensitive tummy ) she hates doing it inside as she slinks away after doing it I have tried preparing myself for the day OH cant accept the fact that it may be time it is wearing me down seeing her like this , I feel she isnt gettign the quality life anymore had to pick her up 3-4 times this week , and many clean ups inside this week also and with me goign to hospital I think she will fret abit also as she and I have been constant companions for 15 yrs I dont want to do what may be needed , but for her sake would I be doing the right thing ? Sorry for long post but need some advice what would you do ? I have been in tears a lot this last month or so , as really dont know what is best for her somedays I think yes , then another time say no

South Australia's first pet graveyard to close its gates http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/ipad/south-australias-first-pet-graveyard-to-close-its-gates/story-fn6bqpju-1226326670734 ATKINSON'S Pet Cemetery was once a peaceful, manicured resting place for more than 200 beloved animals. Today, South Australia's first pet graveyard at Roseworthy is covered by weeds, and knee-high grass; row upon row of headstones barely visible to the small trickle of visitors who pay respect to the memory of their beloved pets. Now pet owners, some of whom say they paid up to $400 for a plot, coffin and burial service, have learned the 25sq m site at Roseworthy, which was established in 1972, has been sold and will eventually be part of a new housing estate. The Hickinbotham Group bought the Krieg Rd site 18 months ago and has appealed for anyone who has a plot to collect their pets' tombstones and remains ahead of the development, which is not scheduled to start for at least another 10 years. Heather Hassell, 82, of Woodville buried her cat Nattie in the cemetery in 1986, then her rabbit Bunzi in the next plot in 2002. The grandmother said she chose a spot for Nattie in the corner of the cemetery so he would have a "beautiful view out over the fields". She made the 50km trip to the cemetery every month until it became too difficult a few years ago and was devastated to see its condition when the Sunday Mail took her out there this week. "I used to love walking through and having a few tears reading some of the lovely messages on the headstones - it was so peaceful and well-kept," she said. "I'm very upset that it will become housing - I'm going to collect the headstones before that." Lorraine Muzyka, of Salisbury North, visited three months ago and was unable to find her miniature dachshund Kojak's headstone amid the overgrown weeds. "I was shocked and just so sad - the reason I had buried him there was because it was peaceful and quaint and I felt he was in a place with lots of other much-loved pets, so I felt at peace with that," she said. Bob Atkinson established the cemetery and it was later taken over by his son Bevan Atkinson and Michelle Khouzam who sold it to the Hickinbotham Group. The company's land acquisition manager Des Dunn said it was never given a plan of the burial plots or any contact details for plot owners. He urged anyone who had a pet buried there to contact him if they wanted to collect a headstone or the animal's remains. Mr Atkinson and Ms Khouzam could not be contacted by the Sunday Mail. Contact the Hickinbotham Group on 8366 0000. So sad for anyone who has a pet there

Happy 15th Birthday Tara I didnt think you would make it to your birthday as the last 12 months or so have been hard on you you lost your best mate just over 14 months you fretted badly when he passed away you suffer Dementia and Deafness and Blindness and so insecure to go through what you have within yourself and then lose your mate and then to be left alone more than ever by yourslef this last year due to mum and dad having health issues and we had to leave you home alone There have been days over the last 6 months that I didnt think you would make it , then you surprise me by running and bouding around like a puppy all over again you have your days of having accidents inside and we can see you dont like having those accidents , but Tara that didnt worry us as we know you couldnt help them I know you cant get on our bed as you use to be able to for your belly rubs .but we lift you up on the bed to have them and then lift you down so you dont hurt yourself Thank you for being my shadow for 15 years and the love and fun you have given us with your antics over the years Have a great Happy Birthday and yes you will have your favourite chicken tonight for tea

We had a flea problem last summer I beleive they came from cats hanging around since Sam passed away We used Frontline on Tara washed bedding the house hold carpets I used Vinegar and water in spray bottle sprayed aroudn carpets and corners let it dry a bit then vacume also household salt or Borax powder sprinkle around carpets then it sink in for few hours then vacume , it suffocates the fleas and eggs also the spray bottle of vinegar and water spray on dog before they go outside and it repels fleas sprayed and flea powder on bedding outside to deter the cats a product called Keep Off also kept the cats away or lavender reples fleas there also I didnt want to use flea bombs due to allergies for humans Mortein also put out a spray especially for fleas in carpet and that worked well also another thing that worked well on the live flea on a dog is some oil in a syringe squirt the flea with the oil syringe and it kills the flea instantly

Tara ws doing that inside also I took her of the Clomicalm tabs as apparently they can have that affect I also rang Hills about the BD and they told me it can cause runs as very high in Omega so $80-00 bag of BD was sitting there until get a refund from vet ( phew , too expensive to not be refunded ) Tara is on Hills Sensitive Tummy dry food which helps her tummy problems and so far no mess inside for 4-5 days now and back to good solid poos we also put her on the Prescription ID can food I also have to be carefull what else I give her as she has like a IBS since puppy I am going to introduce her Clomicalm back soon with a smaller dose and see if it enough to help her Tara has never liked being groomed etc , but always use to calm down after awhile last time she was groomed was horrible her squealing , I had to walk away and leave her to groomer ( I have always stayed with her and chatted to groomer ) groomer did say her dementia has made her forget that she didnt get hurt in the past how I am going to cope with the grass seeds this year I dont know as I have to check her for them but she gets clipped and groomed in few weeks time Thats good news Westiemum

Following on from another Dementia thread Tara is on Clomicalm tabs for about 2 weeks or so now and Hills BD dry food she has started messing inside with the runs in the last few weeks I read the side affects of Clomicalm and it can be a side affect ( they seemed to help her on the Dementia side of it ) Woke up Fathers day morning to a horrible runny mess inside plus she walked through it and walked it around the house I stopped the Clomicalm tabs that day and still gave her some BD dry she doesnt eat it every day , she picks at it when she wants I am coming to the conclusion that the BD is causeing her to have a upset tummy tonight she has messed inside about 5-6 times about a hour after some BD dry food she doesnt even indicate she wants to go outside , or even if we take her out and walk her around she comes back in and then does it last few days I have given her chicken and rice or fish and rice etc and taken her of any medication she was on to eliminate the source She does not like what she doing and it is wearing me down to the point of tears to see her like this Has anyone else experienced this affect with BD food ? I will be ringing Vet to discuss this with him but other peoples experience is appreaciated Thanks
