awwww....how cute! What kind of dog is yours? He sounds VERY lucky to have you. OES are absolutely adorable! I had an old one, which was my OH's and that is when I fell in love with them. We got ours in July 06, after a long wait! He is such a good boy, VERY laid back and happy to be on his own. At the moment he is lying at the back door breathing in the fresh air! There are some more pics in the photos section if you want a look. The thread 'Could your dog be in Advertising'.

Wow, I had no idea that peas were bad....(they are so small!) I add them in to my dogs food from a packet of cheap mixed frozen veggies. There aren't many peas in it. There is also carrot, broccoli and Cauliflour. I guess as long as there aren't too many it should be OK? They eat worse things than a few peas....chipbark, sticks etc.! You definitely put in alot of effort for your dog, he must love you to BITS!

Do they go nuts over her when they come in? If they do, then that might be why she goes nuts too.... See what happens if your guests completely ignore her when they come in. No eye contact, no touching, or talking. She might start wondering what all the fuss is about.

I am also looking at getting a hydrobath for my OES (new or second hand) but don't really know where to start in looking for one. I am in Perth if anyone can help.

Oh wow Terrorbull that happened to me once too! It's hillarious!! And about your dogs 'girlie bits' I don't know!!

How awful for that poor doggie!

He he gorgeous! I wouldn't worry about it either. My OES hardly barks and it is great. I am looking after my mums weimeraner and she doesn't shut up.... It is kind of annoying when you are used to a laid back dog. Give me the quiet one anyday!

Ralfthelab... When my doggy was around 8 weeks old and we had to go to work, we confined him inside the house in a small section (we pulled the chair across so he couldn't get to the whole house). He had toys, paper to pee & poop on, and a crate to sleep in if he wanted to and water to drink. He was very good, we would come home, he would have pee'd on his paper, and all his toys would be all over the place. As he got older, we started giving him more room to wander around in, but he still always goes back to his paper in that room if he is inside and needs to go. We do leave him outside now while we are at work, with his outside bed, and all his toys, and he is fine. But he can stay inside while we are out too which is good. You just have to ignore the piddles if you don't catch them in the act, and just clean it up. Watch for the signs of needing to go and let him out then. I used to just sit with mine until he went, then praised him LOADS and then go back in. If you do catch him in the act, just pick him up quickly, say 'no' and put him outside where you want him to go. You will go fine....GOOD LUCK

I agree with Portia, try and keep him awake for as long as possible before you go to bed. I used to do that with mine when he was younger.... I used to take him out to pee....then go to bed (he sleeps in my room), if he tried to get on the bed, I would push him down and not say anything. I didn't acknowledge him in anyway, then he would go to sleep. He would wake me up to go to the toilet by scratching!...so i would let him out...let him go wee....then I would just go back to bed, with not a word, and he would then settle again till the 5am cuddle on the bed! - I couldn't resist it, and I have an Old English Sheepdog...he's not even fully grown yet!! GOOD LUCK

I have been using this method since day dot with my boy, who is now a six month old angel. Whatever works for you.....just try it!

A dog can be a companion even if its outside. Some people get a dog intented for it to be inside but then the dog gets too big, or too rambunctious Surely if someone 'intends' on getting a dog, then the proper research should go into it prior to bringing it home....watching it be a 'cute' small puppy, THEN deciding it's too big! If a dog is an inconveniece to people, then they should look at getting one that will suit their lifestyle better. All it takes is a bit of time and effort to find what will suit you the most.

I say send your partner to sleep in the garage and see how he likes it...especially with half a bed!
-
I don't think it is very nice on a dog having to sleep outside....totally alone (remember this is a pack animal) on concrete. Maybe if your partner always wanted the dog to be an outside dog, you should have never allowed him to sleep on your bed. You got him used to that, then all of a sudden he is turfed outside...he is probably wondering what the hell he did wrong! If your parner wants him outside that much, perhaps you should get him a kennel, or one of those beds that is raised off the ground. He is probably ripping up his bedding etc coz he knows that you go outside and pay attention to him when he does, if that is the case, he has you very well trained! If he really just doesn't want the dog sleeping on the bed, then dont let it sleep on the bed. My dog has always slept indoors at night and he only gets on the bed if we allow it. Otherwise, he usually just sleeps in the passage outside our bedroom door either on his cozy bed, or on the timber floors (if he is hot). Maybe you and your parnter can come to an agreement and maybe allow the dog to sleep inside, but initially in the laundry, or in a confined area (ie not the whole house). At first with mine I would shut the passage door, so he could go in and out of our room, down the passage and into the laundry. Now that he is 5 months old, he has run of the house at night. I trust that he will not do any harm to it, and he just sleeps when we do. Hope you get it all sorted.

You should see what I had to come home to today! Charlie had almost dug to CHINA the hole was so deep.....to make matters worse it was in our 'lovely' pebble garden. Can't sprinkle poop and grass clippings on that (it is right at our back door).... Anyone else have any suggestions for us and our delinquents!!

I have a 4 month old and he was always given 2 meals a day because we go to work. We always leave him with a treat ball though full of food (and a distraction / entertainment) which gets him through until we get home. He has never had a problem with food....isn't greedy or starving.

Hi Everyone I have a 4 month + Old English Sheepdog and he has lost all his baby teeth except for the sharp pointy ones! I am not overly concerned about this, but his adult 'pointy' teeth are growing through already and the baby ones aren't loose yet. Question is....shall I help them along by encouraging him to chew on things? He is a show dog so won't be getting sterilised....therefore there isn't a chance for the vet to take them out whilst he is under any anesthetic. Please let me know your thoughts on this. Thanks

Hi Everyone Two nights in a row now (a rarity as puppy doesn't pee inside often anymore at night) he has licked it up off the floor..... ;) Is this just completely wierd....anyone heard of this before? Could he be thirsty or something!!!!? Thanks
-
Sounds a bit like my Old English Sheepdog..... Easy to train....yep...he has dug 1 hole, chewed the corner of one chair....has destroyed no valuable items as I don't leave them in his reach....although his reach will get better as he grows! He is mellow and laid back. Doesn't bark much (unless he is playing) VERY happy in his own skin....and very cuddly....like a teddy bear

Thanks everyone for your advice......The fur Child is fine now...... I will look into different foods for him too

Thanks Nekhbet, I was just carrying on with the wheetbix from when the breeder had him, I will get him off it. Shall I replace with more biscuits? I have never had an Old English Puppy before (just an adult dog) so I'm learning as I'm going, so thanks for your advice. I used to cook up the chicken mince for our old guy, mixed with rice and vegetables. What can I mix up raw chicken mince with, is rice OK? Shall I add some supplements? Any help would be greatly appreciated. By the way, he's stopped gulping now, and seems to be back to normal!!!!
-
My 12 week old OES started doing a wierd kind of gulping thing tonight. He is in no way distressed, but he is acting like he has something stuck in his throat, and is trying to get it down. He is not (and has not) coughed or anything. My BF lifted him up to put him on the chair and he did the BIGGEST belch ever. Could he maybe have wind or something and it's stuck in his belly? I gave him sentinel spectrum yesterday so I thought maybe his belly is a bit tender. When we noticed the wierd gulp thing we gave him a wheet bix with some puppy milk (thinking it may dislodge something stuck in his throat) and he ate it fine. Any suggestions as to what it could be?? I think I am more distressed than he is! Thanks all

I have a 12 week old puppy that likes to hump things too. When I told my breeder, she told me that his grandfather was the same and used to hump his handler in the show ring...and renowned for it apparently!! With Charlie to stop him (he likes to round us up then try it on our legs) we just take a step back, say 'no', then 'sit', and then praise him for sitting and try and distract him from humping. That seems to work for us....Although he is still learning. The wierd thing about it is that he seems to like to hump my boyfriend when he is wearing his work trousers!! It's like he can relate to them or something!! Good luck with your humper!!!!!!

Hi Karen I am in no way an expert but I have an Old English Sheepdog Puppy (just turning 12 weeks tomorrow) and I am feeding him 1 cup of advance puppy biscuits in the morning, with a wheetbix and some puppy milk all mixed together, and for an evening meal he gets another cup of the biscuits plus some pedigree puppy food. He also gets 1 cup of biscuits (maybe a little less) in his treat ball for when we go to work. I am going to start to cook chicken mince mixed with vegetables, and rice, and probably include a fish oil tablet in there with some extra supplements to replace the tinned food. I will always keep on with the biscuits. I was told by my breeder that this was OK, and that with a big dog, you dont want him to grow too fast as it could cause damage to their bones etc. Also not to run them around too much as well. My dog seems fine with this amount of food, he is 10kg's!! and not to mention totally adorable. Julia

I know exactly how you feel. I have a 10 week old Old English Sheepdog and although he is VERY good....I have never felt so TIRED! I guess you might want to think of it as easy training for when you have babies! I can't wait until Charlie gets older, but at the same time, he won't stay this litte for long either, so make sure you make the most of it, and try and do all the right things.....and like flycow said...say YES to her as well. Ok....It's 6:47pm....Bedtime?????? Good Luck...... I'm sure your baby will grow up to be a great family member

Hi Kiki I too have a new puppy (although he is almost 10 weeks old now) and he pee's alot too. I think I counted about 5 piddles in the space of 30 minutes...... most of the time they are just dribble ones, but I'm not going to complain if he does them outside. As for the piddling while he was asleep....I would have thought that a little strange as I thought that they don't tend to 'mess' where they sleep. Maybe he was pretending to be asleep, or was just waking up, and sort of lost control? Was it raining or cold outside? My puppy doesn't like going on the grass when it has been raining and just pee's on the bricks!! Maybe just keep an eye on him and make sure he doesn't do it again. He may have just been lazy or comfy and couldn't be bothered getting up! Good Luck!
