  1. definatly let the older dog assert its dominance over the pup that way they establish the pecking order between them from the start. If they are only mouthing at each other with some noise dont be alarmed just supervise their playing time as much as you can so if anything agressive happens you can take the appropiate action. My dogs are the other way around the older dominant dog is under 10kgs and my pup is 6months and he is towering over her although he weighs 24kgs, SHE is the dominant dog, she gets him on the ground in a dominant down(standing over the top of him while he is in a submissive position). Thats the way THE DOGS sorted it out form day dot.It is best to let them sort it out as long as your comfortable with how rough the dogs are playing then its best to leave it to them
  2. Your brothers lab missy is going through a time when labs start to challenge their owners and start to be naughty again. Puppy stage for labraodrs lasts for 2-3 years but 12 months is one of the times when they get extremely naughty and it seems like months of training and hard work come undone, there is light at the end of the tunnel, she will grow out of it hang in there she is challenging your brother for dominance and for a higher psotion in the hierachy(pack) more time needs to be spent with the dog over the next couple of months especially in the training department. To regain the dominance over her dont let her on the lounge or the bed (if that is what the dog is allowed to do). Maybe dog training and gundog work to give her something to do and to re-establish who is the boss in the household. Gundog work is perfect for the dog to learn how to retreive and have fun while still being told when she can go and get the ball thrown out for her. My lab ramses is in gundogs with our obedience club we go to and he loves it. I also reccomend the book who's the boss by VAL BONEY. it has a lot to do with the pack stucture and understanding the value of the stucture to the dog. Dont worry she will grow out of it eventually but in the mean time find extra activities with missy to give her something to do to use her mind. She will be better at the end of it and so will your brother and his gf. hope this helps Spoilt Lab Lives Here
  3. i have found a website about a supplement which can reduce pain in joints and things like that sasha's blend website It seems to have a good reputation, im pretty sure you can get it from the vets. I am going to try it my old girl Ssha who has arthritis in her back legs if it gets any worse hope this helps
  4. my dog sasha JRT X silky terrier has the same problem i have to bath her in fidos anti itch oatmeal and alovera shampoo because it is the only thing i can use that she does not try to scratch her fur out after a bath. As for the dandruff she still gets that i dont know how to stop it but because she is long haired like a silky terrier i brush her daily which appears to help
  5. hows it going with drops now any better? edited because i posted the same thing twice.
  6. this one worked for me to square up my labs sit and drops. Stand abot 20 cm away from a wall or fence give the command and almost everytime they will not sit or drop on the wall they will most of the time be a few cm away from the wall. Repeat this a few times if they are not squared up and after they get it right you will only need to do this once or twice for each command in training to refresh their memories.
