  1. U HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDIN ME.... our dogs are spoilt rotten and the area out the back is enclosed covered veranda thing and the two big boys love it out there!!!! next time if you havent got anything nice to say then please bugger off and dont bother!!! AS for everyone else sam is doing much better this after noon and ran to the gate to great me and knock me over!!!!back to his old sammy self i think!!!! now he just needs a play date with ramses and ben, the terrible two, and he'll be right!!!! Woohoo! Yay for sammy!!! ok so about this playdate
  2. When i first read this thread a few weeks ago i thought, ha! a GSD hurling a stick would look funny He does do that! he is so funny, but when he does hurl the stick back to you he will make sure you throw it out again for him Playing 3 games of fetch at once at the meet on sunday was so much fun! ETA You should have seen him on sunday! He went to great lengths to find his stick out of no where
  3. Oh thank god for that!!!!!! He was one very sad looking boy in the car on sunday! yay!! he is getting better go sammy boy! There is a labrador here who wanted to play with him
  4. I must be lucky guys Ramses will watch the gate open and not move a muscle. He knows he isnt allowed out unless i give him a command and given the chance he probably would but so far in the nearly 12 monthst i have had him...nothing! He has never got out ever, i dont know what i would do if he got out. When we went on holidays to nans with him, Pop got the 4WD out of the yard, he didnt tell anyone what he was doing and when i heard the gate close i though OH no he let Ramses out, but no pop said he just sat there and watch the truck roll by He does dig and jump ON PEOPLE but not over fences.
  5. hmm not sure what i think of that a bit disturbed....a bit i dont know
  6. Here is one of 2 poms playing even though it says fighitng it is just play. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qw80q7SgpsE...ted&search=
  7. They sound like normal playful puppies to me. Ramses will get really rough with sasha to the point where his hackels are raised and he looks like a hyena. At that point i say a firm no and he stops all together but thats because he has played like that from day one. Even with his litter mates. Bark collars for 2 little pom pups would be the biggest waste of money for you at the moment. You are better putting that money into the pups desexing and obedience training at a well run club. Training and desexing is the most important thing for these 2 pups ATM, they are too young to be attacking each other they will learn their limitatins of each other as they grow older and develop pack structure. For the meantime it is better to let the play and learn THEIR OWN limitationns within each other without human intervention. As they get older and you still think they are fighting then would be the time to start reprimanding the "attacker" (the puppy who instigates the fighting). Enjoy your pups while they are babies as they only get older
  8. My advice to you would be, take her to obedience class, you have a very smart girl who sounds bored and as a result is being destructive. Also at 12months old for a goldie is around the same time they become defiant and very testing. Now is the time to show her who is boss with the lead. What you can do to get her to stop pulling is, start walking her normally like you do everyday, the second her shoulders past your knee turn in the other directon. Do that everytime her shoulder passes your knee, you will probably get nowhere for the first week or two but it is definatly worth the work to be able to walk a dog on loose lead. Having a labrador i know hair can be an issue. When Ramses comes inside for a few hours at night i vaccum when he goes outside in the run to bed. He only comes in after all the kids have had baths and are in bed (i am the eldest of 5 the youngest being nearly2). Brushing daily will reduce shedding as well, but defenatly look into obedience school it would do you and the dog the world of good!
  9. I havent done much training although we have learnt a few new things in the hols. We go to the pval or park and he an offlead run there with some obedience work into it, like sits and drops but thats it. I havent been to the demo team training yet, thats nothing formal just turn up for an 1hr have a coffee afterwards and then go home. Im going when i can though. Other than not we have had a break.
  10. I have one of those too People always say to me "oh he looks great" and even at dog training there is one instructor who will always tell an owner if their dog is getitng on the chunky side, he regularly does little talks about the importance of keeping your dog trim. Especially the labs, he uses Ramses as an example of what a lab should look like We feel special! Is your lab white or is it just the photo? he looks magnificent. He is nearly white when clean I think he had a bath a day or 2 before we went on holidays. Thanks guys! I love having a normal labrador! all the compliments is great
  11. 12. A vaccum ! Thats Ramses nickname! At my 15th this year he went around and sucked up all the food he could as much as i told all my friends to keep it on the table he went and found it and sucked it all up. About half way through my party he started to in 8 piles one after the other! being a lab and as only a true lab would do began eating it while i was cleaning it up :( so i put him in the bird avairy for some time out and to clean up the mess. He was fine after that but seeing how my party was based around him, it will be a party my friends and I will never forget!
  13. Welcome to the world of labradors that think they never get fed! they are always starving hungry Dont worry he should be fine! Ramses started to swallow his before i got them out of the plastic! I used to freeze them to make them last longer and once he swallowed his ones and the ones for my other dog sasha PLASTIC AND ALL I rang the vet and they said if he hasnt passed the plastic in 2 days bring him to see where it was. He passed it and all was fine I dont feed him necks anymore because he would swallow 3 in seconds! good luck!
  14. Woohoo!! You know what thats means :p Hopefully ill be joining the waiting brigade in 2008 to do the courses long while off but hey i have to finish year to so i can start the rest of my dog training life ;) Have fun!
  15. Lucky i found this thread! Unfortuantly Ramses is looking like one of those labs that just gets them in the heat He has one that appeared over night, it is red and yuck. I have snipped that hair off it so i could put some egocort cream on it. When it stops beong pussy and yuck should i try the powder then? This is the 2nd dog in my care with hot spots that sounds so formal the other one Malcolm the pug got really really bad and as we didnt know what it was, we held off taking him to the vet for 2 days. We were pug sitting for the week, we were doing the salt wash before we took him though so he was getitng some treatment. He had to have a needle with something in it and was on antibac. cream for 2 weeks. If the egocort doesnt work ill ask mum to get some stuff that malcolm was on. They are so ugly! I feel like a bad parent coz it popped up instantly! and its pretty big :p
  16. We have had an excellent year!! In only a few months Ramses has gone from begginers, to class 1 spent 1 month there and went to class 2 spent a few months there BUT then got promoted to class 3!!!! All before his 1st birthday! I set my mind to obed trial with him and become an instructor so we are working on that! We have done everything as a team esp. to get into class three the next step is class four which is trialling level!
  17. Ramses is defeniatly a dominant humper figured that one out when he humps most dogs he meets. Now i have to watch for the signs when he is going to do it and then walk him away and only after he has settled down i go back and he can say a normal hello to the dogs
  18. Ramses thought he'd have a go at ginger a beautigul GSP last sunday She didnt help putitng her butt in his face BTW he has been desexed since 6months old and has never done the deed but has tried a few times
  19. Wow that is a big wake up call! So sad to see him go that way though
  20. "Carry You" When I brought you home, I carried you. I held you close and made a promise that day. As I breathed in that sweet, soft, clean smell, I promised to carry you, and keep you safe and well. I laughed and spoke so quietly to you. I taught you your name. You showed me your heart. And I showed you mine, as I carried you, that day. When I take you home, I'll carry you. I'll hold you close, as I promised that day. I'll breathe in that old familiar smell, and keep my promise to keep you safe and well. I'll cry as I speak so quietly to you. I'll say your name. You'll show me your heart. And I will lose mine, when I carry you, that day. Walt Zientek
  21. The story and the letter from the vet dont match up in regards to 'rufus' breed The story says Rufus is a collie X but the letter from the vet states he is a labrador retriever I know of a dog that has wounds on her neck because of an ecollar, needless to say they are no where near that horrific ! The dog has now been sent to the guard dog training place in sydney but thats not the point. She was constantly shocked because the fence was just a wire one and they live on a corner block so she has full view of people walking past and would push the boundaries with the collar. Silly girl still didnt stop going near the fence though
  22. A vested interest in selling shock collars/prong collars because the trainers are so impotent! IT'S CALLED A QUICK FIX!!! I am sorry but have you actually used one before spitting comments like this out the people who use those types of collars are not impotent! i dont think you have the right to call the trainers impotent because have you seen them work with the prong or shock collar compared to a check chain or flat collar ? Have you tried to control let alone train a dog that pulls you around no matter what you do?? Not all dogs are your straight forward walk on a check chain, act perfectly and never have a problem!! Impotent trainers pfft !! i cannot believe you would call people who sell/use a shock or prong collar inpotent! that is a massive insult to all people who use the collars and I hope you are ready to deal with the backlash of that comment!
