  1. Furrychild Leos had a litter last year. Met some of the gorgeous pups in November they were around 4 months old if i remember correctly. Also met Freyja who was still growing her coat back after having her pups was funny seeing a short haired leo
  2. HI Kath Elsa and Chardy are doing great Chardy is as Cute and silly as ever, Elsa is doing well in Agility now she can weave quite well now (most days anyway) and loves it.. Its a lot of Fun.. We have little chance in winning due to her size but I don't care as long as we have fun and she can get passes with out beating others so its a good sport, Elsa is only small and fine for a Leo at only 40kg so she is perfect for Agility. My New Girl 'Zephyr' is 7 months old and I imported her from NZ from "Leonnz" I fell in love with the out standing Temperment of her Parents and after meeting Wynnie (Kerrie Ports in Tasmaina's New Girl with the same mother) I could not resist a new pup fromher following litter... so after a very long 3 month wait she few over to OZ at the age of 12 weeks... she is a real Delight, very sooky, but she is very desturctive when left along in the yard... But she is starting to settle down now. at 7 months Zephyr is a touch taller than my other 2 girls so she is going to be a big girl when she grows up. Photo is of Elsa (Left) and Zephyr at 6 months old With the Hair I would rather the long Leo hair than the short hair of the pointers coat when it comes to being in the house.. I used to own a X lab - Bull mastiff (black) and she hair got into everything it weaves into the lounge, clothes etc.. and you can't get it out... Where the long coat tents to stick on everything but you can wipe it off with a clothes brush or a moist hand.. having said that I don't wear black and most of my clothes and house furishings are bought with brown Leonberger fur in mind Also Male Leos are nice and impressive with the Mane, but remember they are bigger and also have much longer hair.. so if you not fussed on grooming but Love Leos best to with a Female. GROOMING - If you want a good Slicker brush for this type of coat try the "Les Poochs Pro Brush" Purple one.. 'Firm / Firm' wide.. they are very expencive at around $100 for a brush but you get a brush with 2 sides and they are magic through coats like this. The one that is cheeper and just 'Firm' only has one usable brush side the other side is a sort of Comb which I can't see it being of any use. I would rather 2 brushes.. at least when One side is full you can turn if over and keep brushing. Dont' bother with the regular(small) size as they are WAY to small with only about 1 inch square of brush The Mat-Zapper one (red) is great too but its more expencive and does the same job, just a touch firmer. I have both does not make a lot of Difference. here is a web site to the brushes if anyone is interested. http://www.naturalpetstore.com.au/d/LPPFBW.../f---wide-size/ Victorian Leonbergers - there are more Leonbergers in Victoria than any other state at the moment. photo of the puppys in the cart was taken on the weekend in Victoria when I visited 'Adlihtam Leonbergers' to see their 7 week old Leo pups... Soooo cute!!! If you contacted Lyndsay of Adlihtam Leo's she could put you in touch with other Leo people, its a fairly small world and most of us know each other. or you can go to the NSW Leo site www.nswleos.com and find a list of Breeders both in OZ and NZ. NSW Leo Assn. has Fundays and we have around 14 Leos join us these days which is very good as we only have around 30 in NSW.. Interested people are more than welcome to come along to these days to see all the different Leo as they can and get to know them. I find this one of the best ways people can see if Leos are a Dog for them. Beth. Hi Beth!! How is Zephyr going now? Bet she is huuuuge now!! Much bigger than back in November! Big thumbsup for the fun days! That is how i get my Leo fix until I am able to get one of my own!
  3. I have never owned any of those breeds you mentioned but can answer your question of curiosity. My first dog is my prince, Ramses my labrador, I was 14 when i got him. He has been the best dog i could have asked for! I always wanted a dog I could have off-lead around other dogs at the beach/park wherever and that would fetch. Well ever since he was 6 months old all he has ever done is fetch and by 12months I was confident to have him offlead. He is now 4yrs old and the model dog for all pups we have through this house. The grandpa of the pack In regards to bitches in season , males and their legs etc etc If your not going to become a registered breeder with the pup then my advice is to desex at 6 months to save any hassle. Leila the GSD, went through a season before we desexed her and it was horrid! She was 12 months old by the time she got done and had learnt her bad behaviours. Have to say though she has calmed down so much now!!! Ramses was done at 6 months and never developed the cocking of the leg, he occasionally does it now but not often. Friend the beagle was desexed yesterday and he cocks his leg, he is 6months but each dog is different. As for your age. Well I was 14 when i got him and im not tied down with a dog. Ive done a bit of travelling, go on holidays and live life etc etc Rams is just a big part of it. If its what you want it wont feel like your tied down at all!
  4. Congrats! Thats so cool she is in the mag!! Is she a ridgie?
  5. My mums dog has babies- 2 cats, the kiddy ones that move and make noises and stuff. She always has them with her and nutures them, moves them about the place. She is also a hoarder too, mum often finds piles of stuff Penelope has collected The latest was her own fur from the bathroom bin!
  6. At the kennels where i worked we had a dog who had spinal problems and would drag one of his back legs, he had to wear a shoe on the foot to stop it from being damaged. It stayed on well! I never saw it off him, but he always had a spare in the office.
  7. Dogs are outside so just watch me drive off. None of them even care They watch me go and then continue what they were doing.
  8. Adding some pumpkin to her diet is a filler and wont be any weight on her. Will help keep her full whilst losing weight.
  9. 3 days in a row now! He is getting muscley! and his nails are getting shorter without me having to clip them which is a bonus!

  11. I got up on time this morning!! Last week I only walked him twice because my phone alarm kept stuffing up and id end up sleeping in! So was happy when it worked today!
  12. Well there is that side if it too. I only looked at it from the negative side If my vet had a resident cat or dog or whatever id probably look at changing vets, my old vet had resident lorikeets, but they were in a cage and in the corner, on display but away from the waiting area so that was ok but an animal roaming around would just do my head, especially with a cat reactive dog and a dog aggressive dog!
  13. Its seems a bit odd to me that vets would have resident animals at their practice? Isnt that putting the animal at risk of catching diseases or getting sick far more than if it were living in a home environment. I could never imagine going to a vet with a resident animal, would be a nightmare!
  14. Pands im with you! Rams keeps a good pace next to me and if he speeds up i say steady and he backs off. Of course i dont run for long and its more a quick shuffle than an actual jog or run He loves it. being a lab they like to work a bit faster otherwise he just plods along with the bored face on, rare occassion that i run though, its hard to juggle a dog lead, mp3 player and hold myself down so i can run AND breathe at the same time IYKWIM i usually just let him offlead to set his own pace and i follow along behind at my own pace. Works for us EFS
  15. Boof is clearly happy in the shelter! His lipstick is out in one of the photos Poor darling going through that!! I hope the guy gets a good long sentence for this!
  16. Went for another walk today, about 30mins for this one. Its much hotter here today then yesterday. Rams still loved it! Im also walking him daily to trim his nails down, he hates me touching his feet and clipping his nails and we have no concrete in our yard to trim them so the road will do!
  17. This morning I got up and took Rams for an hour walk before work. He had a nice play with another lab girl and we got compliments on how obedient he is I plan on doing this Mon-Fri with Saturdays being our Delta dog day and Sundays are dog training. That ought to keep him a happy boy!
  18. Thats fantastic!! When my best friend was looking for a pup i thought that she would go to a BYBer, because of all my ranting on about papers and breeders etc etc which seemed to bore everyone i spoke to about it when on the topic of puppies. Turns out she took on everyword and got a purebred beagle from a registered breeder with papers and everything! Was very exciting
  19. Thanks he is my best friends dog who lives with me. As far as puppies go we have a good one! He is pretty good, doesnt destroy things like Rams and Leila did when they were little except he broke the dvd player. He is my best friends first pedigree dog and all my raving on about dogs with papers while we were at school worked! He is from a breeder in QLD and was flown to us in September.
  20. Trust me my heart was beating a million miles an hour the whole time! He has been taking Suki out there for a few nights without me know..I freaked when he took him out Suki isnt put on the ground when the dogs are there only ever held. Mutta..Thanks I think so too.
  21. That would be 'Lornez Friend Lee' Otherwise known as Friend and Leilas best bud! They adore each other. Although that pic makes me look like a liar When we feed her in her night pen she is very defensive wit Ramses and Teddy (the goat) She will growl if they look sideways at her while she eats, Friend however is able to sit right beside her pen and sniff around without Leila so much as batting an eyelid at him. Sharing a Kong together.
  22. This is Leila, She has been a problem from day 1 and is now the 'yard dog' as she is DA and cannot join in the activities that Rams and I do involving other dogs etc etc. She gets walks and we take her to a river where we know not many people and dogs go but other than that she is 'the yard dog' She also is not fond of cats, with our old cat Tiger she would chase the cat up on top of the air con and then sit there and bark at her. She often looks like this when playing in the yard... or this... Tonight OH was feeding her and had taken Suki our kitten out for some 'bonding' time. This is what his DA unpredictable dog did to our cat. She was ever so gentle and relaxed, with a wagging tail and all. Are there moments when your dogs completely surprise you with their reactions?
  23. Thats where i work We allow people to bring their own food and if the dogs are not eating we try everything to get them to eat. We just had a boxer pup come in abit on the thin side. The owner was having trouble getting weight on her, she weighed 15 kgs when she came in and wasnt eating, we mixed her food up with some treats and found something that she loved...sardines...she went home yesterday at 18.3kgs! Poodle mum when were your dogs last there? ETA- www.pets.net.au Thats our website!
  24. When i met up with some Leos and their owners in November, I asked about the price and depending on the breeder prices from $2000 to $2500. To import a Leo from NZ I was told roughly $2000. I love this breed! When i eventually get my boy ill be showing him!
