Dogs Barking At Each Other When We're Not Home
poochmad replied to benita's topic in General Dog Discussion
I don't think separating them would be off much help. So many times I've heard people suggest company for the lone dog who barks?? I had a similar problem many years ago. Our elderly neighbour complained that one of my dogs barked insecently when I was at work. Turned out it barked at him while he stood one the decking of his two story home overlooking our yard. What did he expect? Of course my dog would bark at what she considered an intrusion into our property. I had to keep them indoors during the day, fortunately they were small dogs and they preferred to be indoors anyway. Hmmm perhaps the dogs had set this up with the neighbour?? It is worth a try though. To the OP - make sure they can't see eachother. Hmm. I'd be surprised if there wasn't more noise if the pups were separated, especially since they are used to each other, can't see each other, but can smell. You might end up with two dogs upset - both barking/howling. -
Sounds a bit like it is for humans - some doctors will happily do it, some won't. I would just ask them to provide the info to the specialist.

We just bought a Fuzzyard bed for Jindi. She loves it - it's a donut shape (without the hole, LOL) and is reversible with one side being soft and felt like (for winter) and the other being cotton; each side a different colour. A good website for doggy things is: Ozpetshop

Dogs Barking At Each Other When We're Not Home

Another idea is perhaps a citronella or similar collar that you use for Oscar. I would use this as a last resort though, and perhaps try what others recommend. ETA: just re-read your post and saw the age of the pups. I don't think I would be using one of these collars on dogs so young. -
Dogs Barking At Each Other When We're Not Home

Hi Benita. Are the dogs allowed to be inside while you're out? i.e. do you have a doggy door (or can you get one) so they can go inside? Our dogs seem to prefer to be inside and even though we leave toys out for them, they just sleep the whole day, which is bliss. -
Positive Thoughts Needed For Dear Porridge

MissMolly - Porridge is gorgeous. Poor darling, sending healing vibes her way. Fingers and paws crossed here. -
I definitely would say that they can recognise breeds. Henschke was attacked by a Boston Terrier (it latched on to his poor nose) and now he is very wary of them and won't say hello. Before he would go up to any dog.
-
Henschke used to have a hairy gorilla when he was a pup. He used to snuggle up with it in his bed...unfortunately he went through the chewing stage and the goriall is no longer...

This is what a lot of people say when my dogs are being harassed - so it's not true? Are we supposed to step in?

Instead of worrying about the dogs behind secure fencing, why don't they worry about the dogs roaming free? It is ludicrious that the people doing the right thing, i.e. having their dogs behind fencing, are being targeted.

We've never left our dogs overnight, but I wish we had, otherwise we wouldn't have the problems we do now. We can leave them with friends no worries, but not on their own.

While I'm not a fan of dogs barking at front fences, I wouldn't complain about it. Sometimes if the fence is low and the dog looks like it could step over it and is acting menacing, my heart will be in my mouth. If the fence is secure and the dogs are just barking, I'm not too fussed. Although, if there is a lot of traffic, then it could be annoying for the neighbours - but that's a noise complaint not an agression complaint.

The 3 pups look like GSD to me too.

We have a lot of dogs around our neighbourhood too that carry on when you walk past. There is one dog in particular that always makes me nervous as he is a lot larger than the fence and I'm sure one day he is going to jump it. There are also a number of dogs loose, which I really don't like. Why can't people keep their dogs locked up and secure?

CW, I have been following your threads about Charlie since you first joined DOL. To think he has something so serious as this and for one so young is so sad. How are you holding up?

So terribly sad for your loss. -
Oh Cockerlover...hugs to you.
-
What a terrible thing to have happened. Poor little pup. ;) Hugs to you and her owners.
-
How sad. ;) Hoping Sirius is having a great time in doggy heaven.
-
Dunno, but she's pretty cute!
-
Should also add that they are given chicken wings that are frozen in kongs - winter or summer. They love it and it keeps them busy for hours.

Congratulations! (Photo please. )

Very cute! He looks like such a happy boy.

The Best Thing I Heard At The Royal Was...

I always enjoy standing near 'non show people' at the end of shows to hear what is being said. Some of the things people say are hilarious!
