  1. It looks so tranquil. I guess it goes to show two great calm animals side by side, the gentle newfies and the lovely gentle giant Clydesdale.
  2. Hmm, good question Cosmolo. (That wink is for another thread where I spoke about bite inhibition.) Fo me, I thought bite inhibition was a dog learning from a very young age not to bite hard - when they are pups and we teach them not to bite. So a dog that hasn't had that training, I would think would bite hard and there would be punture damage etc. I have witnessed plenty of times when Henschke our male has been startled and has 'snapped' his head around, but made no contact. I wonder if he had not been taught to control his mouth, whether he would have actually bitten?
  3. Aww, she looks too sweet and innocent to have done all that damage!
  4. How frightening for the poor little girl! I can't begin to imagine the horror of it all for everyone involved.
  5. Aw, what a great photo. I don't know how he can give him up, considering he's getting along so nicely with his dogs...
  6. How sweet of those men to rescue him! And not only that, but to get him warm, feed and water him. Lucky pooch.
  7. The victims in all of this are the poor horses and the horse owner. I also feel for the dogs that did the mauling, but to be honest, they sound down right scary.
  8. I wouldn't be surprised if someone was trying to do a 'home' castration job. Years ago I worked at a vet and a dog came in with an elastic band of some kind around his tail...apparently the owner wanted to dock him. The poor dog was in so much pain. ;)
  9. I have nothing further to add, except I'm sorry for your loss. Hugs and well wishes to you and your family in this time of grief.
  10. Only 3?? 1. Kong 2. Crate (hard and show) 3. Grooming products (scissors, clippers, mars comb, etc) However, could not live without: treats, halti (stops Henschke being a boofa at 5am when the cats are around), backseat buddy, seat harnesses, poo bags, dog door...the list is endless.
  11. He looks lovely to me. Don't forget he's only young and will be burning up all his food (as others have said, would reduce his exercise at the moment); when he matures he will fill out and not be so slim. However, you don't want to have an overweight Goldie, as that can cause stress on his hips and legs. I'm sure your vet can advise you whether he's in the healthy weight range.
  12. I saw the dog bite on his leg - it did not look like a nip. A dog that has been taught bite inhibition should not break the skin; this reads to me as though the dog has done something like this before. I feel very sorry for the little boy who suffered like this, and I understand the father's anger and blanket approach (although just because a dog is big doesn't automatically make them a biter...the number of little dogs that act like they want to rip your face off, beats the number of large dogs that do the same that I've come across - and I know the onus rests with the owner), I'm sorry for the owner who's had to make the hard decision to put her dog down (not that she would have had a choice, due to backlash and the way people now think when a dog bite happens) and I'm really sorry for the dog owner who may end up getting sued by the father for 'medical costs', although I don't understand this, as he should be covered by medicare? So not only has the dog owner have to live with the fact her dog injured a little boy, had to have her beloved pet PTS, but also has to endure added stress from the father. A tragic event for all involved.
  13. So sorry about what happened to your neices. I hope they and the Grandmother recovers soon. Hugs to you and your family in this painful time.
  14. Oh my! He is gorgeous and I love the name! (I want one!)
  15. Lucky you! Looking forward to seeing some photos!
  16. She looks a lovely, healthy weight to me. We used to have a lab and a goldie and were forever defending their body shape. Just remember, your dog will live longer than the poor chubby grossly overweight ones.
  17. Aww, bring her to me, I'll give her lots of cuddles! She's so cute! What gets me is how some people are quite rude and upfront with their negative comments about our beloved pets, but boy, wouldn't it be the reverse if we said negative things about their kids! Ooh, don't go near that kid, Fido, it might bite you! Or oooh, what are you doing to that poor child, it's so fat! I mean, seriously.
  18. Yes, letting a dog out into suburbia loose is one thing, but not having it properly trained was just asking for trouble.
  19. We have air con in our bedroom where the dogs now sleep. So if's a hot night, the air con goes on...for all of us.
  20. Due to a long story, we didn't meet Henschke's mother when we went to collect him. I was not concerned as the breeder was keeping his brother and all of the dogs seemed to have lovely temperaments. Later, when we were looking at another pup, this time from another breeder, we fell in love with the mother and wanted to take her! I personally quite like to meet the mum as I think it gives a good indication of how the pups will be.
  21. He is lovely! I also like the solid blacks. ;)
