More importantly...where are the photos?

I started a rare Spaniel thread once, but no one joined me... So along with another Field Spaniel lover, you will find me lurking around in the Springer thread...

Thank goodness the pup was ok! Bet the owners had one hell of a shock.

Henschke named after a wine name as hubby loves wine. Jindi named after a cheese as wine and cheese go so well together. ;)

Our two play quite rough as well. The only time I ever step in is when Jindi is being extremely rough chasing him in the backyard. She has a tendancy to bite him on the back and tail and often he will yelp, stop, put his ears back and his taild between his legs which says to me he's not happy. That happens very rarely now, and they play together quite well, even though the dog that's often crying is Henschke not Jindi. However, his tail never stops wagging and he constantly goes back for more.

Do Relatively Unprotective Dogs 'step Up' If Necessary?
poochmad replied to Pete.the.dog's topic in General Dog Discussion
Our Field Spaniel has a great deep bark (quite surprising for a dog his size) so when he barks at night (which is very rare) it is nice to know that people would think he was a much larger dog than he is. He has woken up and growled a few times, which puts you at ease and when I've been home alone and had a tradesmen come into the house, he put himself between me and the guy and barked. I was a bit nervous, so I guess Henschke picked up on that. Our female Fieldie is a scaredy cat and runs away whenever Henshcke barks. So I'd be just as happy for her to stay out of harms way. On saying that, I don't think he would physically attack anyone (not that I'd want him to), but he would definitely bark at someone which is what you're after anyway. -
Welcome to DOL. And I 'third' that - definitely need some pictures! ;)

Aww, he must have had so much fun doing it though!

Where Are Your Dogs When You're On Dol?

Hubby and I do this quite a bit - he's usually watching TV and I'm in the study on the computer...the dogs are really sweet though and tend to go and visit 'Daddy' for a pat or a hello and then come back to me. It's so sweet! -

Obedience And Training - Males Vs Females
poochmad replied to LisaB85's topic in General Dog Discussion
I too think it relates to the dog's temperament and drive. My female is extremely food orientated and will do anything for a treat. My male is affectionate and sooky, whereas the female is a real snuggle pot, but is independent. -

16 Week Puppy Wakes Up At 4am And Won't Go Back To Sleep
poochmad replied to springer11's topic in Puppy Chat
Oh god, how I do remember this very thing. Henschke (now 20 months) would get up as a pup and then was awake and wanting to play. At first I would play with him thinking it would tire him out (with eyeballs hanging out my head), but then I got tired of that and just put him back and ignored him. Sure he moaned a bit, actually more than a bit, LOL, but after a while he stopped. -
We always put in a chicken wing (cut in half) with the 'thigh bit' in first and the 'wing' piece in last with the tip of the wing sticking out. Keeps them amused for ages.

Awww, poor 'hussy'. ;) -
He looks like a handsome pooch...is he stalking?
-
Jindi follows me everywhere and is always at my feet. Whenever I'm in the office on DOL, she lies under the desk usually with her head on my foot. Henschke is lying behind the chair looking towards the door. Where are your dogs when you're on DOL?

Has Anyone Ever Boarded Their Pets At This Place In Sa?

Looks pricey to me. -
Poor Hannah. Hopefully she's feeling a lot better soon. Good news, though that she's up and about.

Cesar Millan's Dog "daddy" Passed Away
poochmad replied to fainty_girl's topic in General Dog Discussion
How sad. He was a great ambassador for the breed and it was great to show people's misconception of the breed as well. -
My sister has, and I'm sorry, but I think she wasted her money. She said that her horse wants a nice paddock with nice grass to eat. Well der, knock me down with a feather!
-
I would discuss it with your vet and your breeder. We desexed our female before her first season and she didn't end up being desexed until 9 months. In the past I had desexed at the 6 months age, because it was the 'done' thing. I don't think either age had an effect because our other female dogs were all larger than her and still had good bone structure and body.

I love taking the dogs with us wherever we go and I love watching them explore the new place. As long as the new environment is ready for him (i.e. closed fences etc), then I'd just take him with you and let him explore the new surroundings while you unpack.

Going To My First Dog Show In Years!
poochmad replied to crazyboutdogz's topic in General Dog Discussion
Agree. I can't tell what he looks like. Is he a long haired chi or a Cairn Terrier? -
Thank goodness it was nothing serious. Hope he's feeling better soon.
