  1. My next dog will be a pup, hopefully from friends in Cooma, but more than likely they will have stopped by then. If not, I'm sure we will be able to find a good Field Spaniel breeder - one who breeds for the right reasons. As good as Jindi is now and how harder it would have been to get an 8 week old pup, it has been a little harder due to her shyness.
  2. Have you thought about her being looked after in somone's home? Contact 'Don't Fret Pet' - if you are looking after the very best carer. We used one in Sydney (she was lovely) and our pup had the best time.
  3. Hi. Where are you located? Oops. Just re-read your post...see you're in Brisbane. Don't know any good kennel there.
  4. Sorry to be a cynic, but I'd be very suprised if people are 'catching on'. If anything I think the popularity of these cross breeds is increasing rather than decreasing.
  5. Our dogs are only allowed on the couch when we invite them up. They tend to not stay up for long either.
  6. So sorry for your loss. My condolences are with you and your family.
  7. Seriously, for a country that still uses soon to be extinct animals for their own gratification, is it any wonder that they eat what we regard as pets?
  8. I sometimes wish what the human has inflicted on the animal, the tables could be reversed...then maybe they might learn what a horrific act they have inflicted on a poor defenceless animal.
  9. Thank goodness he is ok! Nothing worse than a glutton - they will eat anything!
  10. We use a car harness for our dogs. When we bought the first one for Henschke we didn't know you could get an 'extension' for the harness and he used to get himself tangled up. Then we saw another that had a piece that connects to the seatbelt and to the harness allowing more movement for the dog and also the ability to lie down.
  11. Oh and come and have a chat in the Springer thread, where Field Spaniels, Welsh and English Springers and a couple of Springmations hang out...Springer Thread
  12. Have you been in contact with his breeder? They should be able to advise you of how to groom him for the show (and in general) as well as have a look to see whether he's good enough to be in the ring.
  13. We wash ours every 2 weeks or so - but generally the male tends to need more washing than the female, as his coat feels greasy pretty quickly. Not sure if that's a male thing. The female, well you could easily get away with washing her every two months. She has a beautiful, soft coat.
  14. This is a good website. It has a huge range of dog beds. Dog Beds We bought the eskimo bed and the cuddler.
  15. I'd speak to your breeder about it. They should be able to show you how to do it. When they showed us, we filmed them so we could then practice at home. Or find a breeder near you (etc a DOLer) and do the same thing, video it and practice at home.
  16. Eww, dogs are gross! When you think about all the gross things they do, it sometimes makes it really hard to love them! The other day we came home to find a dead bird in the house and were thankful neither of the dogs had tried to eat it.
  17. What a funny story, I can just picture it. :D Um. Sorry for you though...
  18. Wowsers, that is a massive bill. I think your neighbours are being extremely generous to you considering it's their first dog and it's only a pup. I would offer between $500 and $1000. If you can't afford a $1000, I would offer to pay it off. I think the fact that they have been so understanding about it is testament to your relationship for the future. It's nice that they say you don't owe them anything, but there was a hole in the fence, your dog did pull the other pup and their dog got injured. (Personally in saying that the first thing I do as a pet owner and having a yard is making sure that all holes are filled, etc.) I think a good offering is worthwhile if only for the sake of a good neighbour relationship.
  19. Great photos everyone! More, more!
  20. If there was an emergency, my dogs would be coming too. Knowing my husband, he'd proably injure himself making sure the dogs got away safely. I know that animals can be 'replaced' and people can't, but I'd be lost without my dogs and I can't imagine being able to turn away from them in a frightful situation like a fire.
  21. Oh my god. The poor dog. It does my head in how people can be so cruel.
